Mullin Blasts Biden Admin After DHS Employee Killed By Naturalized Felon On Monday, Lauren Bullis, a 40-year-old Department of Homeland Security (DHS) employee, was "brutally shot and stabbed to death" while walking her dog , and DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin is blaming the Biden administration for her murder. Olaolukitan Adon Abel (left) and Lauren Bullis (Photos: DHS) Bullis, an auditor with the DHS Office of Inspector General, was found on Battle Forest Drive in DeKalb County, Georgia, around 6:50 a.m. Witnesses saw a man standing over her body before he fled. She was not the only victim. According to reports, a neighbor heard the gunfire and ran out of her house to see what was happening. The neighbor told local media that it appeared Adon-Abel was attempting to sexually assault Bullis. Before Bullis died, police discovered another woman had been shot multiple times outside a Checkers & Rally’s restaurant. She later succumbed to her injuries. Then, in Brookhaven, a homeless man was ambushed while sleeping outside a shopping center. He was shot several times and remains in critical condition. That suspect is Olaolukitan Adon-Abel, 26, born in the United Kingdom and naturalized as a U.S. citizen in 2022 under the Biden administration. Adon-Abel was arrested on Monday and now faces two counts of murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. As a convicted felon, he not only shouldn’t have had a gun, but according to federal law, he should not have been a citizen either. Adon-Abel had convictions for sexual battery, battery against a police officer, obstruction, assault with a deadly weapon, and vandalism — a trail of violence spanning years. And yet, in 2022, the Biden administration's U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services granted him full citizenship. The legal standard for naturalization, as outlined in 8 U.S.C. § 1427 , requires applicants to demonstrate "good moral ch...

hapabapa/iStock Editorial via Getty Images We're at an incredibly volatile juncture in the stock markets. Despite an unclear resolution to the conflict in Iran, plus a choppy macroeconomy with weak consumer spending, the S&P 500 has shot back up near all-time highs, reversing all of its earlier losses. Software stocks and consumer-oriented retail and restaurant names continue to see large downsides, while semiconductor and energy shares reap the majority of this year's gains. Stock selection is crucial, especially as we move into a potentially volatile Q1 earnings season. Dutch Bros ( BROS ), in my view, will see a bit of vulnerability with its recent rebound rally. The stock is down ~15% since the start of the year, but so far investors have been generally pleased with its growth performance. The question now is, can Dutch Bros keep on top of consensus expectations, as the competitive winds may be shifting against the company's favor? Data by YCharts I last wrote a "Buy" article on Dutch Bros in March, when the stock was trading in the mid-$40s. In the space of a month, Dutch Bros has managed an impressive ~10% rebound rally. At the same time, I think there are a number of factors that have moved in the unfavorable direction for this stock, prompting me to cut my rating on the stock to "N eutral." The next major catalyst for Dutch Bros is its Q1 earnings release, due on May 6. In my view, the stock is ripe for profit-taking ahead of that date. All eyes on McDonald's as it steps up its drinks game Since inception, the discussion around Dutch Bros has always been centered around how its comp sales trends are outpacing the major giant in the coffee industry: Starbucks ( SBUX ). But as Starbucks struggles and focuses on retaining its coffeehouse vibe through new CEO Brian Niccol's "Back to Starbucks" plan, increasingly it looks like Dutch Bros' real competition is McDonald's. McDonald's has been an unbelievably bright spot in an inflation-pressured restaurant sector. W...

We Are/DigitalVision via Getty Images I look for dividends. Those who follow me know it. And they know I look for them because, in my view, in the expected return function of a portfolio, they will carry more weight in the coming years. And when searching on your own screening tool, it's impossible not to come across the Vanguard High Dividend Yield Index Fund ETF ( VYM ). I think it's a competitive ETF that indeed seems to genuinely try to address my need. And although it makes a selection that I consider functional relative to the times ahead, I think it falls short in holding distribution. In short, too little tech, and this can drag down expected returns in my opinion. I talk about it here, but first… What is VYM A US equity ETF, passive, index-based, large-cap value/dividend-oriented . The fund offers a selection of domestic stocks, "large cap value" style, where, however, I think the commercial label "High Dividend Yield" can be misleading: at the end of the day, it's a fairly neutral exposure to mature, profitable, large-cap corporate America. In doing so, it comes with a very low expense ratio (0.04%) and uses as its benchmark the FTSE High Dividend Yield Index: an index made up of common shares of companies with generally above-average dividends, excluding REITs, where the index reconstitution happens twice a year. VYM: Sector Valuations (Seeking Alpha) Let's get straight to the focal point: the dividend. The TTM value stands at 2.29%, something that for SA earns a big C, even though the 5Y dividend growth rate is low, at 3.15%, below average. A linear growth nonetheless: we're talking about 15 consecutive years of dividend growth, an essential element when discussing dividend-oriented ETFs (earns an A+ grade for SA). VYM: Dividend Profile (Seeking Alpha) How Do We Get to This Result? It takes exposure to US companies that pay above-average dividends, market-cap weighted. Specifically , it selects US companies that have paid dividends in the last 12 months ...

Two years ago, Microsoft launched its first wave of “Copilot+” Windows PCs with a handful of exclusive features that could take advantage of the neural processing unit (NPU) hardware being built into newer laptop processors. These NPUs could enable some AI and machine learning features that could be run locally rather than in someone’s cloud, theoretically enhancing security and privacy. One of the first Copilot+ features was Recall, a feature that promised to track all your PC usage via screenshot to help you remember your past activity. But as originally implemented, Recall was neither private nor secure ; the feature stored its screenshots plus a giant database of all user activity in totally unencrypted files on the user’s disk, making it trivial for anyone with remote or local access to grab days, weeks, or even months of sensitive data, depending on the age of the user’s Recall database. After journalists and security researchers discovered and detailed these flaws, Microsoft delayed the Recall rollout by almost a year , substantially overhauling its security . All locally stored data would now be encrypted and viewable only with Windows Hello authentication; the feature now did a better job detecting and excluding sensitive information, including financial information, from its database; and Recall would be turned off by default, rather than enabled on every PC that supported it. The deadline to pay the tax man is here – and while it may be too late to slash your 2025 bill, there are a few steps that can help you shave down taxes for 2026, Bank of America found. April 15 is the federal deadline for taxpayers to timely file their income tax returns. While latecomers can go on extension and hand in their paperwork by Oct. 15, any sums owed must be paid by April 15. Investors who found themselves on the hook for hefty taxes on their holdings this time can take a few steps to avoid similar pain next year. In fact, boosting tax efficiency in your portfolio can create tax alpha – an extra kicker to your returns after you minimize tax drag. "War is uncertain, but taxes are not," Jared Woodard, investment and ETF strategist at Bank of America, wrote in a Friday report. His team compared two portfolios, each allocated to 60% stocks and 40% bonds, and made one "tax insensitive" while the other was "tax aware." Over a 30-year period, the portfolio that prioritized tax efficiency generated a post-tax average annualized return of 7.4%, compared with the "tax insensitive" portfolio's annualized return of 5.9%. Woodard also drew up a few ideas to harness the power of tax-efficiency for investors and help them keep more of their return. Buybacks over dividends Share buybacks and dividends are both ways for companies to return excess cash to their investors, but only one of these methods is tax friendly. Share repurchases by themselves aren't a taxable event to the investor, but qualified dividends are subject to levies – either 0%, 15% or 20% – regardless of whether the shareholder reinvests the money or spends down the income. Woodard warned that while high buyback strategies would've beaten common dividend strategies, companies may be tightening the reins on share repurchases as they commit capital to artificial intelligence and other expenditures. He recommended investors consider the Invesco BuyBack Achievers ETF (PKW) for focused buyback exposure. Look...

The Live Nation logo is displayed at a Live Nation corporate office on March 9, 2026 in Beverly Hills, California. Mario Tama | Getty Images A jury has found that concert giant Live Nation and its Ticketmaster subsidiary had a harmful monopoly over big concert venues, dealing the company a loss in a lawsuit over claims brought by dozens of U.S. states. A Manhattan federal jury deliberated for four days before reaching its decision Wednesday in the closely watched case, which gave fans the equivalent of a backstage pass to a business that dominates live entertainment in the U.S. and beyond. Live Nation Entertainment owns, operates, controls booking for or has an equity interest in hundreds of venues. Its subsidiary Ticketmaster is widely considered to be the world's largest ticket-seller for live events. The civil case, initially led by the U.S. federal government, accused Live Nation of using its reach to smother competition — by blocking venues from using multiple ticket sellers, for example. "It is time to hold them accountable," Jeffrey Kessler, an attorney for the states, said in a closing argument, calling Live Nation a "monopolistic bully" that drove up prices for ticket buyers. Live Nation insisted it's not a monopoly, saying that artists, sports teams and venues decide prices and ticketing practices. A company lawyer insisted its size was simply a function of excellence and effort. "Success is not against the antitrust laws in the United States," attorney David Marriott said in his summation. Jonathan Raa | Nurphoto | Getty Images Ticketmaster was established in 1976 and merged with Live Nation in 2010. The company now controls of 86% of the market for concerts and 73% of the overall market when sports events are included, according to Kessler. Ticketmaster has long drawn ire from fans and some artists. Grunge rock titans Pearl Jam battled the business in the 1990s, even filing an anti-monopoly complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice, which declined to...
