Win McNamee/Getty Images News Psychedelic stocks traded higher on Thursday after CBS News reported that President Donald Trump plans to issue an executive order that would signal his administration’s intention to increase research into ibogaine , a traditional psychedelic plant medicine native to Africa. Notable gainers include Atai Life Sciences ( ATAI ), COMPASS Pathways ( CMPS ), GH Research ( GHRS ), Definium Therapeutics ( DFTX ), and Cybin ( HELP ). With Ibogaine being illegal in the U.S., Americans have been visiting unregulated clinics overseas, mainly in Mexico, to get the drug, which is used to treat mental health disorders such as depression and anxiety. Derived from the Tabernanthe iboga plant, found primarily in Gabon in Africa, Ibogaine is known for its hallucinogenic effects. The White House is currently drafting the order, which, according to sources, aims to release federal funding for further research into ibogaine’s effectiveness for post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injuries, especially among veterans. Trump is expected to sign the executive action as early as this week, two of the sources said. However, there are no plans to reclassify ibogaine for medical use—the drug will remain under Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act alongside illegal substances such as heroin. Just_Super/iStock via Getty Images ASML Overview Dutch semiconductor manufacturing equipment provider ASML Holding N.V.'s ( ASML ) stock price didn't generate a substantial investor sentiment despite its Q1 earnings release on the 15th of April indicating that it had exceeded expectations with €8.8 billion in net sales and €2.76 billion in net profit. The factors behind this are centered on the overall expectations of the AI Hype cycle, to which ASML has been linked to. Trend Drilldown Early trends indicate that net sales (or revenue) could close Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 at roughly half the growth exhibited in FY 2025. Source: Created by Sandeep G. Rao using ASML's Financial Statements The bulk of the slowdown can be attributed to the sale of lithography machines used in the manufacturing of advanced chips. However, as past data reveals, this is a highly cyclical business: the machines sold are expensive and long-lived and go on to generate income for the company via service fees, et al., which are captured in the "Service and Field Option Sales" line item and which are trending at 20% growth in FY2026. Expenses such as R&D expenditure and selling costs are running at par with the previous FY, while the relatively higher ticket price of machines sold is aiding in boosting net income to trend at 16% growth, which is, again, lower than that seen through most of the 2020s. A very noticeable change, at least in this quarter, is the composition of the purpose for which machines are being acquired by clients: memory manufacturing dominates over the sale of machines for the manufacturing of GPUs ("Graphical Computation Units") that are the core of the "brain" employed for running AI. Source: ASML Q1 2026 Presentation Within a single quarter, machines for the manufacturing of memory chips have gone from 30% of all system sales to 51%. This is borne out by the massive increase in sales share in South Korea from 22% to 45%, where Samsung Electronics ( SSNLF ) and SK Hynix ( HXSC...

Anthropic is publicly releasing its most powerful large language model yet, Claude Opus 4.7 , today — as it continues to keep an even more powerful successor, Mythos, restricted to a small number of external enterprise partners for cybersecurity testing and patching vulnerabilities in the software said enterprises use (which Mythos exposed rapidly). The big headlines are that Opus 4.7 exceeds its most direct rivals — OpenAI's GPT-5.4, released in early March 2026 , scarcely more than a month ago; and Google's latest flagship model Gemini 3.1 Pro from February — on key benchmarks including agentic coding, scaled tool-use, agentic computer use, and financial analysis. But also, it's notable how tight the race is getting: on directly comparable benchmarks, Opus 4.7 only leads GPT-5.4 by 7-4. It currently leads the market on the GDPVal-AA knowledge work evaluation with an Elo score of 1753, surpassing both GPT-5.4 (1674) and Gemini 3.1 Pro (1314). Yet, the model does not represent a "clean sweep" across all categories. Competitors like GPT-5.4 and Gemini 3.1 Pro still hold the lead in specific domains such as agentic search, where GPT-5.4 scores 89.3% compared to Opus 4.7’s 79.3%, as well as in multilingual Q&A and raw terminal-based coding. This positioning defines Opus 4.7 not as a unilateral victor in all AI tasks, but as a specialized powerhouse optimized for the reliability and long-horizon autonomy required by the burgeoning agentic economy. Claude Opus 4.7 is available today across all major cloud platforms, including Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud’s Vertex AI, and Microsoft Foundry, with API pricing held steady at $5/$25 per million tokens . Improvement in hard sciences and agentic workflows Claude Opus 4.7 is a direct evolution of the Opus 4.6 architecture, but its performance delta is most visible in the "hard" sciences of agentic workflows: software engineering and complex document reasoning. At its core, the model has been re-tuned to exhibit what Anthropic de...

spawns Sustained lower oil prices ( CL1:COM ), ( CO1:COM ) are essential before the market can see a return of fundamental risk-taking, according to Alli McCartney, managing director at UBS Alignment Partners. While recent rallies have pushed markets near all-time highs, McCartney cautioned that the current momentum reflects technical factors rather than renewed investor confidence. In an interview with CNBC, McCartney explained that the recent recovery in beaten-down sectors like software ( XSW ), ( IGV ) and alternative asset managers stems from short covering rather than fresh investment. “What you are seeing in terms of the technicals of the market or what’s actually happening at a micro level is not exactly renewed risk-taking yet, but rather short covering,” she said. Despite the technical nature of the rally, McCartney acknowledged bullish tailwinds from an impressive earnings season showing 17% growth. She noted the breadth is particularly encouraging, with average companies up eight to 10% rather than gains concentrated in just a few top performers. “That is a very different level of breadth than we’ve seen in past earning seasons,” she observed. However, oil remains the dominant bearish concern. “The biggest bearish story out there is still the price of oil and the long-term macro effects, not only in the U.S., but especially outside of the U.S.,” McCartney said. She added that while markets may have overreacted to the downside, the rapid swing back upward could also prove excessive. On the positive side, McCartney pointed to ISM manufacturing entering expansionary territory for the first time in five years and a labor market that is “precarious but potentially balanced.” Still, she emphasized that April and May data will be critical in revealing the true impact of elevated fuel costs on consumers. The real-world burden of high gas prices ( XB1:COM ) remains a persistent concern. McCartney recounted paying $8 a gallon during a recent trip to California, un...

Earnings Call Insights: MIND Technology (MIND) Q4 fiscal 2026 Management view "All things considered, I'm pleased to report another year of meaningful cash flow from operations and positive earnings and adjusted EBITDA," said CEO Robert Capps, adding that "our Seamap revenues remain elevated compared to historical levels and were essentially flat in the fourth quarter compared to the third quarter." "Our backlog of firm orders as of January 31, 2026, was approximately $13.9 million compared to $7.2 million as of October 31, 2025," CEO Robert Capps said, adding, "during the fourth quarter, we received long anticipated orders totaling about $9.5 million" and "expect to make the remaining deliveries early in fiscal 2027." CEO Robert Capps said the company is pursuing larger opportunities and highlighted financing capacity: "Some of these opportunities involve new vessels for governmental organizations... $10 million or more to us" and "we recently entered into a trade finance facility with HSBC." "Full year gross profit was approximately $18.7 million" and "a gross profit margin of 46% for the year compared to 45% for fiscal 2025," said CFO Mark Cox, attributing it to "product mix" and "greater production efficiencies." Outlook "Given our current visibility, we expect our results for fiscal 2027 to be down when compared to fiscal 2026," CEO Robert Capps said, while adding, "I believe we will be cash flow positive for the year even with lower revenue." CEO Robert Capps linked near-term demand timing to macro uncertainty: "we've seen some customers defer new order commitments given commodity price volatility and the current state of geopolitical affairs," but "we continue to view this as a short-term disruption." Compared with last quarter’s message that "we expect these new orders to have a positive impact on our fourth quarter results" (CEO Robert Capps, Q3 call), management’s language shifted to a softer fiscal 2027 setup: "We recognize it will be difficult to replica...

The Surface Laptop 7. | Photo by Chris Welch / The Verge Microsoft is preparing to launch new Surface Pro and Surface Laptop models in the coming months. Windows Central reports that the refreshed models will include both Intel and Qualcomm variants, with Microsoft opting for an OLED display option for the Surface Laptop this year. Microsoft is expected to launch new Surface Pro and Laptop models with Intel's Core Ultra 3 chips first, followed by Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 variants later this summer. This is reportedly because Qualcomm's latest chips are in short supply, but it reverses Microsoft's trend of shipping Qualcomm-powered Surface devices to consumers first in recent years. Early this decade, Toyota (NYSE: TM) dared to be different. While just about every automaker was touting multi-billion-dollar investments in electric vehicles (EVs) and paying minimal attention to hybrid options, Toyota stood its ground. The Japanese automaker believed a slower, more logical hybrid focus initially was the optimal path, especially given that many markets would be slower to mass-adopt EVs than, say, China. Toyota took intense criticism from investors who said it was too slow to adopt EVs, analysts who said it would trail rivals, and environmentalists who claimed it wasn't doing enough to reduce emissions. Today, these critics might just owe Toyota a big apology. The Toyota bZ. Image source: Toyota. Continue reading
