IURII KRASILNIKOV/iStock via Getty Images Murphy Oil Corporation ( MUR ) at first glance would appear to be a beneficiary of higher oil prices (period). That would make one wonder why to bother with this company when there are so many others I reported on that will benefit from both higher oil prices and increasing production at the same time (in some cases while deleveraging as an added bonus). The reason here is that the company is attracting the attention of Wall Street. This is going to be a slow process, as the first Vietnam discovery will not be producing until the fourth quarter (roughly), and it's relatively small. But there is a lot more news behind that, as noted in the last article I wrote. Years ago, some readers may remember John Hess wondering why no one paid attention to Hess when Exxon Mobil ( XOM ) had discovered the first successful well in Guyana. Mr. Hess, CEO and Chairman at the time of Hess ( which is now part of Chevron ( CVX )), essentially got the answer that in this day and age, no one is interested in a discovery until the cash flow arrives and the future cash flow possibilities are clearer. Murphy Oil is now at the "why is no one paying attention" phase. How long that lasts is anyone's guess, as Murphy has an ongoing exploration program that could surprise to the upside at any time. That makes this a Strong Buy idea, and then just wait for that upside. Vietnam Potential Shown below is the situation (summarized) for the Vietnam business. This is likely going to be the lion's share of growth in the next decade. Murphy Oil Vietnam Business Summary And Activity Guidance (Murphy Oil Corporate Presentation First Quarter 2026) There will probably be an update to this within the next month or so because there is an ongoing exploration program that was front-end loaded. Therefore, results will be periodically available in the second half of the fiscal year. The first production in Vietnam is going to be 10,000 BOED (mostly, if not all, oil). For a...

ABRAHAM GONZALEZ FERNANDEZ/E+ via Getty Images Investment Thesis The prospects for Syntec Optics Holdings, Inc. ( OPTX ) have improved materially, with the recent news that it has solved its liquidity problem through a share issuance and that its shares will be included in the Russell 3000 Index later this month. Those tailwind events come after the price grew quickly over the past five and a half months. Back in early December 2025, shares traded for a dollar and change, then the price headed up, reaching $13.63 on June 2, 2026. I have a conservative price target based solely on quantitative data from Q1, but developments since then have persuaded me to maintain my Buy rating. About Syntec The company describes itself this way in its 10-K for 2025 : "Syntec Optics goal is to deliver impactful solutions for optics and photonics-enabled solutions globally. We believe that the innovative design for manufacturing of our optics and photonics-enabling products is ideally suited for the demands of modern original equipment manufacturers ("OEMs") who rely on optoelectronics, light-enabled devices, and intelligence that require high-precision and reliability." As I pointed out in my February 11, 2026, article , Syntec's share price took off in December 2025 based on news of two military contracts. The uptrend started on December 23, one week after it announced a contract from the U.S. Department of Defense. No terms were reported, but the contract was to develop optics that would facilitate both day and nighttime-readable AR displays. Bullish investors were given another reason to buy when the firm announced on January 6, "a new ballistic optics order, and (Syntec) will participate in what is believed to be the largest effort of its kind to equip every U.S. soldier with superhuman perception and decision-making capabilities." Driver died four years after founding McLaren but his legacy lives through his inspirational tenacity and team’s roll call of champions As the streets of Monaco echo to the roar of engines, history too will resonate long and loud in Monte Carlo this weekend. Allegiance be damned, it would take a heart of stone not to recognise McLaren’s achievement and contribution to the sport when the team that made their debut here in 1966 contest their 1000th grand prix. Bruce McLaren, the team’s founder, had brought his first F1 car, the M2B, to Monaco in 1966. On Thursday it was on the track once again, driven by their double world champion Mika Häkkinen to mark the team’s milestone race, having taken 203 victories, 13 drivers’ titles and 10 constructors’ championships. Ohio State University Reaches $100 Million Settlement With Nearly 300 Sex Abuse Survivors Authored by Jasper Ward via The Epoch Times , Ohio State University has reached a $100 million settlement with nearly 300 former students who had accused the school's campus doctor of sexually assaulting them decades ago, the school and a lawyer for the victims said on Wednesday. The Ohio State University campus in Columbus, Ohio, U.S., November 25, 2020. Megan Jelinger/Reuters The settlement with 279 of the 280 former students was ratified by the university's board on Wednesday. It followed years of litigation over accusations of decades of abuse by Richard Strauss. The abuse occurred from 1978 to 1998 , the year he retired from the faculty. "The mediation and its confidentiality are continuing as the parties work to finalize the details of the settlements, and additional information will be shared as appropriate," the school and a lawyer for the victims said in a joint statement. In February, the university reached eight additional settlements, bringing the total to 304 survivors and more than $60 million. Strauss, who killed himself in 2005, was employed by Ohio State's athletic department and medical staff for nearly two decades. A 2019 report detailing the investigative findings said that Strauss had sexually abused at least 177 men, nearly all of whom were students, and that university staff who knew of the abuse failed to act. The abuse included groping and fondling of the students' genitals and other acts under the guise of a medical examination. News of the investigation and its findings prompted more than 500 plaintiffs to sue Ohio State, alleging they had been sexually abused by Strauss and that the school had shown deliberate indifference. Alphabet Inc. ’s Google has agreed to pay SpaceX $920 million a month for computing power as part of a cloud-services deal that runs through mid-2029, according to a company filing. Google will pay SpaceX the monthly fee from October through June 2029, with capacity ramping up through September at a reduced cost, SpaceX said in the filing Friday. If SpaceX fails to deliver the access to Nvidia Inc. chips as part of the deal by Sept. 30, Google has the right to terminate the contract, with a one-month grace period, the filing shows. The cloud deal isn’t the only pact that Google and SpaceX have been engaged in talks over. The two companies had been discussing launching the search company’s test products for orbital data centers, a person familiar with the matter said in May. Google previously said it was exploring deals with other launch providers for what the company called Project Suncatcher. Under the pact disclosed on Friday, either party also has the right to terminate the arrangement with 90 days’ notice.

Modern Art, London The mathematically named new works of Along the River are disorienting, illusive and seem to offer a flash of the secret sequences that underpin the physical world Why do we find things beautiful? More precisely, why do some paintings of coloured dots in rippling patterns inspire in me something like revelation? The idea that beauty is the feeling you get when encountering truth is unfashionable in the arts, but lingers in the sciences. The physicist Paul Dirac once proposed that it is more important that a formula is beautiful than that it can be proven: when a perfectly beautiful theory produces results that cannot be real, he argued, then we should not discard the theory but reconsider what is real. Since the 1970s, Terry Winters has been rebuilding that bridge between art and science. Taking inspiration from disciplines including botany – his early paintings, particularly, evoke sprouting pods and tangled roots – engineering, computer modelling and cybernetics, his paintings might be understood as diagrammatic approximations of the patterns that govern everything from the division of cells to the constellation of stars. If every era has to renew its standards of beauty to reflect new understandings of how the world is constructed, then Winters comes as close to providing that model as any living painter.
