Richard Drury/DigitalVision via Getty Images Shares of The Carlyle Group ( CG ) have been a poor performer over the past year, trading essentially flat and missing out on a meaningful market rally. The stock is down about 30% from its highs as concerns have mounted about trends in private credit, which may reduce fundraising activity and potential performance fees. Given its business mix and history, this risk appears overstated to me. I last covered shares in March , upgrading Carlyle to a “buy,” given my fears that private credit fears had created undue pessimism. This call was premature with the stock down 2% since then while the market has added 13%. With updated financials, now is a good time to revisit CG. Seeking Alpha Speaking at a conference in May , Carlyle reiterated its long-term plan for $200 billion of new assets and an increase in earnings past $6/share. Management also pointed to incremental upside beyond these targets. Regulatory changes have improved alternative asset managers’ access to 401(K) funds, but CG is not modelling in any flows here, which I think is prudent as I expect it will take time for plan sponsors to approve private funds. Carlyle Group Beyond this, it is not assuming any insurance/annuity flows. Over the past decade, we have seen a merging of alternative asset managers and insurance companies with Apollo/Athene ( APO ) and KKR/Global Atlantic ( KKR ). These pair-ups provide the asset manager with permanent capital and insurers with capable investment teams. Beyond these tie-ups, there have been two strategic partnerships over the past 18 months, Lincoln ( LNC ) with Bain, and Jackson ( JXN ) with TPG ( TPG ). This has made Carlyle the “odd man out” to an extent. Insurers are primarily looking for private credit exposure, and at that same May conference, CEO Harvey Schwartz made an interesting admission. 18 months ago, Carlyle’s direct lending and software-specific lending capacities were sub-scale and smaller than peers. The comp...

Meet The Woke Vegan "Christian" Democrat Senate Candidate From Texas For at least a decade the progressive movement has been obsessed with infiltrating every aspect of American life and culture, even going so far as co-opting Christian churches in an attempt to claim them as "safe spaces" for woke ideology. This might sound odd to those who grew up in the devoutly atheist era of liberalism, but those days are long gone and seem quaint in comparison to today's cavalcade of circus freaks. Well, despite their crushing defeat in 2024 the parade of unhinged woke Democrats has not abated. In fact, it seems to be getting worse. Numerous democratic socialists are running for office in blue states and cities and some are unseating more centrist Democrat incumbents. The party is being overrun with far-left fanatics, a predictable outcome when one accepts the fact that leftists never admit they are wrong and always double down. A prime example, maybe the most egregious example, is James Talarico - A Democrat candidates for US Senate in Texas. Talarico is a former middle school teacher and Presbyterian seminarian who has served in the Texas House of Representatives since 2018. Talarico has ties to an NGO called Leadership for Educational Equity (LEE), which coaches potential civic leaders in far-left ideology. Though, the candidate is best know as the aspiring woke pastor who argued that God is "non-binary" in defense of trans athletes (men pretending to be women) stealing trophies and scholarships from real women. It's important to remember that 2021 was the pinnacle of the woke movement in US politics. The Biden Administration opened the floodgates to DEI cultism in politics and ideologues in the Democratic party were rushing to signal their virtue. In other words, politicians operating in this time period where showing their true Marxist colors for the world to see. They believed they had won. Talarico's hot takes ran the gamut, showcasing an unhinged zealotry and a disturbi...

Micron Technology shares jumped more than 19% on Tuesday, the memory-chip maker's biggest single-session gain since 2011, and the move pushed the company past $1 trillion in market value for the first time -- making it one of the 10 most valuable public companies in the U.S., as of this writing. The catalyst for the stock's big surge this week was a sharply higher price target from a major Wall Street firm. And this was followed by several other analysts raising their targets significantly. The first analyst -- the one who caused shares to soar -- tripled its firm's target for the stock from $535 to $1,625. In the following days, two additional targets that were revised to particularly high levels came in at $1,500 and $1,750. Behind all of this, though, there really is a bull case building: artificial intelligence (AI) has reshaped the memory business in ways that could prove lasting rather than temporary. After its recent surge, Micron is now up an extraordinary 240% year to date and more than 900% over the past year. Continue reading

Just_Super/iStock via Getty Images Canadian stocks rose on the final trading day of May, despite sobering news that our neighbors to the north are now in a technical recession . Two consecutive quarters of negative real GDP growth from Q4 2025 to Q1 2026 doesn't seem like a bullish backdrop, but, as always, stocks are discounting mechanisms. The look-ahead is generally considered six months, and perhaps that's why the iShares MSCI Canada ETF ( EWC ) wobbled earlier this year. I had a hold rating on EWC back in August of 2025 . Shares have returned an impressive 25.5% since then, dividends included, compared to a 19% S&P 500 gain. It might surprise investors to learn that most international markets have beaten the SPX back to last summer. Indeed, despite seemingly softer macro data, ex-US equities are doing just fine. I am upgrading EWC to a buy rating. EWC Vs. SPY YTD Stockcharts.com According to the issuer , EWC seeks to track the investment results of an index composed of Canadian equities. It offers investors exposure to large and mid-cap Canadian companies, targeting access to Canada's stock market. EWC is a large ETF, now with $5.5 billion in assets under management as of May 29, 2026. That's up from just $3 billion at the time of my previous analysis. Its annual expense ratio is moderate at 50 basis points, while the trailing 12-month dividend yield is close to that of the S&P 500 at 1.33%. Share-price momentum has been strong lately, earning the product a B+ ETF Grade in that category by Seeking Alpha's quantitative scoring system. Risk can be problematic at times, however, largely the result of EWC's highly cyclical allocation and currency risks, which can come about when prices turn lower (a double whammy). Liquidity is high, though. Key for Canada is not necessarily GDP growth or even healthy retail sales numbers. Rather, a favorable interest policy and a healthy banking sector are crucial. What's more, bullish momentum in metals and mining is especially i...

US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth told delegates at an Asia security forum in Singapore on Saturday that New Zealand’s target of raising defence spending to 2 per cent of the economy is not enough and was an example of “freeloading”.
