Hi, this is Charles in Stockholm. Welcome to our weekly newsletter on what’s shaping economies and investments from the Arctic to the Baltic Sea. You can subscribe here . Greener Pastures Doubts have swirled about the sustainability of Sweden’s green industrial revolution since last year’s collapse of Northvolt, a $10 billion electric vehicle battery maker. In recent months, those concerns have been compounded by the struggles of Stegra, a green-steel venture in the far north of the country that has quickly been running out of cash. This week, however, some of that pressure was lifted when the Wallenbergs, Sweden’s most influential business family, said they would lead a consortium of investors to infuse $1.6 billion in Stegra, including $346 million of its own money. The deal caps months of fraught negotiations with shareholders and lenders, and provides a lifeline for the six-year-old company, which is seeking to build the world’s biggest green-steel factory. Problems with that project surfaced last fall when Stegra said it needed roughly $1.2 billion of additional funds to complete the plant — adding to the $7.6 billion of commitments it already secured via a mix of debt, equity and public grants. With funding now set, Stegra’s next major hurdle will be to find enough customers to cover its costs, including its sizable borrowing. That’s something that Marcus Wallenberg, one of three family patriarchs, alluded to on Tuesday. “This remains a major and complex undertaking,” he said. Still, skeptics remain. Investment company Kinnevik opted not to join the funding round and instead wrote down its Stegra stake by 83%, indicating it doesn’t expect to recoup all the funds it has plowed into the steelmaker. International Appeal President Donald Trump may see Greenland as nothing more than “ a giant piece of ice ,” but the Arctic island is betting on tourists and investors to take a more expansive view . As part of a push to lure visitors and make the territory more acces...

zhudifeng/iStock via Getty Images SES AI Corporation ( SES ) reported weaker financial performance for Q4 last month. Lower revenue and a change in revenue mix spooked investors, and the stock dropped nearly $0.70 over two days. The price ultimately dipped below $1.00 per share and has not fully recovered. SES AI will report Q1 results later this month, and the company gave an update on its expectations. The outlook is positive, but it may not be enough to change the investor outlook. There is more risk going forward because revenue will change, and new sources of revenue have not been fully established. The company has only reported revenue for five quarters, so the situation is delicate. The stock price is up 79% over the last year. The price is down 48% since I covered the company last December on Seeking Alpha . Q1 results are expected to be strong, and the price may begin a new uptrend. For now, I change my rating from a Strong Buy to a Hold. Strong revenue momentum will need to be reestablished for the rating to change. Q1-2026 Expectations SES AI recently shared its guidance for Q1-2026 revenue. The company expects between $6.3 and $6.5 million in revenue. Revenue from UZ Energy is expected to drive the reports. Revenue of $1.5 million from delayed Q4 shipments will also be included. The amount is above market consensus, which predicts $3.65 million in revenue. The company will report on April 23 post-market. SES AI expects the 2026 fiscal year revenue to be between $30 million and $35 million. Current Synergies Revenue dropped for Q4-2025 because the company completed its current contracts with Honda and Hyundai to develop B sample EV batteries. There will be no further demand for samples until the companies move to mass production of the batteries, i.e., the C sample stage. SES AI does not expect it to happen anytime soon. Revenue from B samples will not be present for 2026. This development likely spooked investors. The news is not as bad as it seems. The ...
