Mayor says disinformation, including about London crime rates, is ‘eating away at basic bonds of trust’ Sadiq Khan has called on ministers to take significantly stronger action against social media companies that spread disinformation after a study showed a surge in hostile accounts posting falsehoods about London’s crime rates and integration. In an intervention on what he called “the outrage economy”, the London mayor, who has also written to social media firms demanding change, said a lack of action could prompt more domestic terrorism by people who believe conspiracy theories they find online. Meta Platforms is a buy following the release of its long-awaited artificial intelligence model this week, according to JPMorgan. The investment bank reiterated its overweight rating for Meta. It also reaffirmed its $825 price target on shares, suggesting 34.7% upside from Wednesday's close. "The launch of Muse Spark should provide increased confidence in Meta's scaling trajectory and improve investor sentiment," JPMorgan analyst Doug Anmuth said Wednesday in a note to clients. On Wednesday, Meta rolled out its Muse Spark AI model, putting the tech giant company in direct competition with the likes of OpenAI's ChatGPT and Anthropic's Claude. The product is the first of its kind to come out of Meta Superintelligence Labs , an AI-focused unit at Meta that was spun up last year. The new division is part of the company's multibillion-dollar push into AI hat has raised eyebrows among some of its investors. Former Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang is leading the unit after Meta poured an eye-watering $14.3 billion into the startup last year to poach its leadership. Following the Muse Spark's release, Meta shares soared as much as 9.5% on Wednesday before ending the day with a 6.5% advance. The stock carried that momentum into Thursday, climbing more than 3%. META YTD mountain META year to date Those gains mark a reversal for the technology stock, which has underperformed alongside most of its "Magnificent Seven" peers in 2026. In that time, shares of the Facebook owner have declined more than 4%, while Alphabet and Amazon have eked out small gains. Nvidia is down 1.5%. But JPMorgan thinks Meta can continue rising as investors' confidence in the AI-focused firm grows. "This initial MSL model represents the first step in what Meta believes is a predictable and efficient scaling trajectory in which each generation validates and builds on the last before Meta goes bigger," Anmuth wrote. "Larger, increasingly capable models are in development, and Meta will continue to move along the...

English forward has been the perfect loan signing. And yet, there is an ‘and yet’, absurd though that can seem At the end of Barcelona’s 2-1 win at Atlético Madrid on Saturday night , as the players stood celebrating before the small pocket of supporters applauding them from high in the north-west corner of the Metropolitano, Diego Simeone approached Hansi Flick, shook his hand and reminded him of something: “You’ve got to come back.” It came as an invitation, born of admiration, and also a warning. This was only the start of a trilogy in which they face each other three times in 10 days, and the concluding chapter there would be different. A different competition, for a start. Goals from Marcus Rashford and Robert Lewandowski, the latter on 89 minutes, had virtually secured Barcelona the league title but it was going to get bigger and mean more. Atlético, already adrift, had rested players; the last time Barcelona had been there – in the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg – they had beaten them 4-0 ; and the next time the Catalan club came it would be the Champions League quarter-final, second leg. And, back in the Metropolitano, that really would be a battle: tougher than this and, it turns out, tougher than anyone had imagined. Continue reading...

peshkov/iStock via Getty Images By Elior Manier Traders were just celebrating the latest 2-week US–Iran ceasefire news, but it now seems that markets got ahead of themselves. The initial reaction was one of a classic risk unwind – WTI crude oil gapped sharply lower from around $118 to $92 as risk premium evaporated almost instantly on the announcement. For a brief moment, it looked like the geopolitical overhang that had fueled oil’s explosive rally was finally unwinding. But that relief didn’t last. Since the gap lower, prices have been grinding steadily higher again, now hovering back near the key $100 level — a sign that traders are reassessing just how fragile this truce really is. Headlines over the past 24 hours have painted a highly uncertain picture: Iranian officials have stressed that any meaningful peace agreement must extend beyond bilateral talks , explicitly mentioning broader regional considerations, including Lebanon, and warning that the coming hours are “critical.” At the same time, conflicting narratives between US and Iranian sources have only confirmed that the two sides are still far from trusting each other. What is sure is that traffic in the Strait of Hormuz remains more than muted, if inexistent. A recent Reuters report indicated 6 crossings in the last 24 hours compared to the usual 140 in the same timespan – that's not the type of progress that markets want to see. Odds for a proper US-Iran peace deal – Source: Polymarket. April 9, 2026 This kind of environment is particularly difficult for commodity pricing – oil thrives on clarity of supply expectations, but current conditions offer anything but that. Instead, participants are stuck in a feedback loop of headline-driven volatility, where each new comment shifts sentiment without establishing a durable trend. The result is a market caught in limbo — no longer pricing worst-case escalation, but far from confident in a sustained de-escalation. As WTI breaks the $100 threshold yet again, th...

It has been over a year since my last Genmab ( GMAB ) article, where I discussed Genmab’s pipeline, strategic partnerships, and impressive growth thanks to strong performances by DARZALEX and EPKINLY. Despite ongoing legal disputes with Johnson & Johnson ( JNJ ), I believed that the company’s upcoming Q3 earnings report was going to be a catalyst that could potentially reverse the 20% decline in the share price. Since then, the company has averaged double-digit revenue growth, and the ticker is up over 20%. However, the market’s sentiment still appears to be fixated on the company’s DARZALEX revenue, and the royalties are expected to come to an end in 2029 in the U.S. and the early 2030s in Europe. This is a major concern because DARZALEX has been the company’s primary revenue source for years, and we don’t know if the company has enough in the portfolio to offset those losses, much less continue to grow deep into the second half of the next decade. Well, I read through a recent healthcare conference presentation transcript , and it looks as if EPKINLY, Rina-S, and petosemtamab are all ready for registrational readouts that could establish Genmab’s multi-billion-dollar oncology platform and help reset the bull thesis away from DARZALEX. Currently, GMAB has dropped under my Buy Threshold of $28.25, but a strong bounce off an anchored VWAP has me considering a buy in the near term just in case the market realizes the potential of Genmab’s pending catalysts. I intend to discuss Genmab’s upcoming catalysts and how a clean run of positive data could transform GMAB’s bull thesis. Then, I will discuss how the Street expects Genmab to perform in the next decade. In addition, I will point out some of my leading downside risks that could come from these binary events. Finally, I take a look at the GMAB Daily Chart to see if I can identify an opportunity to add to my position while it is trading below my Buy Threshold. Stacking Up Catalysts As we move deeper into 2026, Genmab'...

mesh cube Recession risks have become “uncomfortably high” as the U.S. economy is now “very fragile” and teetering on the edge of a downturn, said Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody’s Analytics. In an interview with CNBC, Zandi unveiled a new recession indicator he developed with the help of AI, called the “Vicious Cycle Index,” which he says is currently signaling recession. The new index represents a twist on the Sahm Rule, created by Fed economist Claudia Sahm, but accounts for labor force participation rather than focusing solely on the unemployment rate. Zandi explained that controlling for participation is crucial given recent demographic shifts and immigration policy changes, noting that “if you control for participation and keep it the same as it was a year ago, the unemployment rate today would be about 5%.” The mechanics behind the index are straightforward: when labor market slack increases significantly over a short period, it triggers what Zandi describes as a “self-reinforcing negative cycle.” As he explained, “Consumers get spooked. They pull back on spending. That causes businesses to begin to reduce payrolls, lay off, and you get into this kind of self-reinforcing cycle.” While GDP growth remains technically positive, Zandi emphasized that the underlying growth rate has fallen below the economy’s potential. “It’s not in recession, but, boy, is it very, very close to one,” he said, cautioning that the index confirms when a recession is already underway rather than predicting one in advance. The labor market data paints a concerning picture, with Zandi observing that “the job market is going nowhere fast.” Employment has fluctuated month to month but shown no meaningful growth over the past year, while real consumer spending has barely increased since late last year and saving rates remain low with little room to decline further. Adding to the precarious situation, Zandi warned that external pressures have yet to fully materialize. The effects of th...

On May 1, 2018, the Fed said it fined the banking giant $54.75M for unsafe and unsound practices in its forex trading business. The board found deficiencies in the company's internal controls and oversight of traders who buy and sell U.S. dollars and foreign currencies for the firm's own accounts and customers. The Fed’s order required GS to improve its controls and compliance risk management. The regulator terminated the enforcement action coordinated with the New York State Department of Financial Services. The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority sold about $900 million of debt this week to refund older bonds and finance transit projects, including an extension of a subway line that will serve UCLA and the future Olympic village for the 2028 Summer Games in the city. The securities, which have a top rating from S&P Global Ratings, are backed by a 0.5% county sales tax that voters approved in 2008, called Measure R, to help pay for transportation needs. About $326 million of the sale refunded bonds issued in 2016, with the remainder repaying short-term debt and funding capital projects, offering documents show. The senior-lien Measure R bonds sold this week included debt maturing in 2039 and carrying a 5% coupon, which priced to yield 3.12%, or 18 basis points below an index of benchmark tax-exempt municipal debt, data compiled by Bloomberg show. The bonds changed hands Thursday in two separate trades at the same 3.12% yield. Metro, as the authority is known, is expanding rapid transit and bus service throughout Los Angeles County as part of an initiative to provide more public transportation and to better connect to major sports venues in anticipation of the 2028 summer Olympics . Metro is working to extend its D-line westward to connect downtown Los Angeles to the University of California at Los Angeles, West Los Angeles VA Medical Center and the future athlete village for the 2028 Games , according to Metro’s website . The final section, which includes the Olympic village, is expected to open in the fall of 2027 and will offer a 25-minute ride from downtown to West LA. While the authority has a large capital improvement plan that will boost borrowing, it benefits “from the large, prosperous, and diverse economy of Los Angeles County, with high wealth and income levels,” S&P Global analysts wrote in a March report. “We expect LACMTA’s robust economy will support the pledged revenue streams’ strong performance, low volatility across economic cycles...
