Jetlinerimages/iStock via Getty Images ATI Inc. ( ATI ) is an advanced materials manufacturer that specializes in producing technically demanding metals. Some of these include titanium, nickel-based superalloys, and specialty steels, which are each designed to operate in demanding environments like aerospace, defense, and energy infrastructure. They operate as a materials science company, generating revenue primarily through its High-Performance Materials & Components segment (HPMC), which includes alloys and parts for jet engines, and also a smaller advanced alloys segment ( AAS ) tied to more cyclical industrial markets. The difference between ATI and its peers is that they are not just a commodity metals manufacturer. They specialize with high margin distinct alloys, specific to the customer at hand. Seeking Alpha ATI has climbed a massive 241% in the last year on strong earnings growth and solid margins. Valuation has risen substantially and needs to be monitored, but I still have the stock as a buy. I anticipate another great earnings report next week for Q1 2026, and like where the company sits on long term contracts with big players in aerospace. The industry has tailwinds on rising global defense spending, which I think is still early in its cycle. Earnings and Margin Growth Stock Story ATI delivered a strong and increasingly profitable finish to 2025, with fourth-quarter results highlighting both earnings momentum and meaningful margin expansion. 2025 adjusted EPS was $3.24, 32% higher YoY. Adjusted EBITDA margin grew 200 basis points to 18.7%. The key component here is that their HPMC segment, which includes jet engine and defense sales, saw a 400-basis point increase YoY, up to 24%. This is where the growth in this industry lies. Management has made it a strategic point that they are positioned to support the next-gen commercial aerospace and defense growth. As sales in this segment rise, so too will the firm’s margin for the foreseeable future. Free cash...

Several oil tankers have u-turned in the Persian Gulf after appearing to try to transit the Strait of Hormuz, as shipowners and oil traders remain in a state of disarray as they try to figure out whether Iran would stick to its promise to keep the chokepoint open for all. The halted journeys of five Greek and Indian tankers early Saturday paint the first picture of how traffic is navigating through the energy artery, after Iran’s foreign minister said on Friday that it was completely open . Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency later reported that the passage will still be closed if a US naval blockade was still in effect. The Greek and Indian tankers had all made their journeys northeast toward Hormuz from waters off Dubai, filled with crude, before they began turning around on Saturday morning. Some are now idled in locations not far from where they u-turned, next to Iran’s Qeshm island, while a sixth has not sent a geolocation signal for several hours. The six vessels were part of a grouping observed late Friday after the announcements to approach Hormuz. They were among a flotilla of tankers stuck inside the Persian Gulf as a result of the Middle East conflict. Together, the six hold about 8.3 million barrels of non-Iranian crude and their successful transits would have meant the highest crude flows from the gulf in a single day since the war started. Bloomberg News couldn’t immediately confirm if the tankers’ u-turns were the result of a decision to abort transit, or if there was some form of traffic control in place as several vessels flock toward the strait. Not long after the crude tankers’ U-turn, three liquefied petroleum gas carriers and an oil product tanker were seen taking the same way east and are now turning into the Gulf of Oman. Shipowners with vessels in the gulf reported hearing warnings broadcast over radio late Friday that they would still need permission from the Iranian navy, according to people with knowledge of the matter. There was no imme...

Russia said a fire broke out in the Port of Vysotsk area on the Baltic Sea after overnight Ukrainian drone attacks, while a strike on Ukraine’s northern region left 380,000 users without power. Russian air defenses destroyed 27 unmanned aerial vehicles over the Leningrad region, according to a Telegram post by Governor Alexander Drozdenko Saturday. Emergency services are working to contain the blaze, he said. The Vysotsk port is an export hub that handles oil products and other cargo. Lukoil PJSC , Russia’s largest private oil producer, owns a terminal at the facility. The Leningrad region’s Baltic coast also hosts the ports of Primorsk and Ust-Luga, through which about 40% of Russia’s seaborne crude exports pass, and has become a target of intensified Ukrainian drone attacks this year, as Kyiv aims to curb the inflow of petrodollars to the Kremlin. The aerial strikes have disrupted loadings, a gas-processing facility and a refinery in the region. Drozdenko on Friday appealed to residents, particularly those with combat experience and military retirees, to join so-called mobile armed squads stationed at critically important facilities. They would be hired on three-year contracts to help defend against air attacks, he said on Telegram. In Ukraine, an overnight Russian attack damaged a key energy facility in the Chernihiv region near the Belarus border, leaving about 380,000 consumers without power, regional utility Chernihivoblenergo said in a Telegram post. Repair crews are working to restore energy supply. The war between Russia and Ukraine, now in its fifth year, shows no sign of easing. In a Thursday attack on Kyiv and several other major cities, at least 18 people, including children, were killed and dozens injured. Ukraine’s air defense said Russia launched more than 40 ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as over 650 drones of various types, calling it one of the toughest attacks this year. In Russia, drone strikes also damaged 60 residential properties in T...

Bottlenecks in the system and parent’s suspicions mean doctors expect another serious outbreak soon By 10am on a spring day, the corridor of the clinic in the Transylvanian town of Săcele was already crowded with parents and children. They were all waiting to see Dr Mirela Csabai, one of just seven general practitioners serving a population of more than 30,000. Most of the cases that morning were routine: colds, checkups, chronic conditions. The calm, however, is recent. In 2024, a measles epidemic tore through this community and left one unvaccinated toddler dead. Continue reading...

The president has opened fissures in his base by starting a war he couldn’t finish with Iran, stoking inflation and offending Christians. Barred from running again, he may feel he has nothing to lose Lance Johnson voted for Donald Trump three times. Now he is feeling buyer’s remorse. “I haven’t been too happy with the third time around,” said the 47-year-old contractor, sitting at a bar in Crescent Springs, Kentucky. “We’re supposed to not start any new wars. Prices were supposed to come down. We were promised a lot of things and we’re not getting them.” Johnson is not the only Trump voter having doubts about a US president who, after defying political gravity for a decade, finally seems to be crashing back to earth . The past two weeks have arguably been the most bruising of Trump’s two terms in office, suggesting that his tried and trusted playbook could finally be falling apart. Continue reading...

Allow us to assist: he’s the Irish director responsible for effective indie horror The Hole in the Ground and the highest grossing entry in the Evil Dead franchise, Evil Dead Rises. His version of this classic horror sees a journalist (Jack Reynor) and his wife (Laia Costa) reunited with their child who went missing in the desert eight years ago, with nightmarish consequences. At my age, I never thought I’d need another qualification. But here I am, grappling with knots and a man overboard in 35 mph winds I’m at the helm of a 15-foot rigid inflatable boat (Rib) in terrible weather: there are storm clouds approaching from the south-west and the wind is already gusting at 35 mph. Waves are breaking over the bow, dropping a bucketful of water into my lap each time. As I bear off to port, the boat lurches in the heavy swell, and someone at the starboard bow shouts, “Man overboard!” I should also probably mention that I’m in a reservoir, between the M3 and Heathrow airport, less than 12 miles from my house. And also: the man that’s gone overboard is a buoy with a face drawn on it in permanent marker. I’m not here to save anybody; I’m here in pursuit of a Level 2 Powerboat Handling certificate. It starts with a ‘back in my day’ nostalgic meme – then suddenly your elders are sharing AI-generated ‘boomerslop’ and repeating conspiracy theories … Graham doesn’t remember his mother ever sharing her political views. He’s not certain she even voted until she met his father, who was a big Labour supporter. She went along with that, only once voting Tory as an act of spite towards the end of their relationship. She later married a farmer who was more conservative, and leaned towards leave in the Brexit referendum. “But, honestly, beyond that, she would never even speak of politics. She just wasn’t interested.” Graham, who works in the transport industry in the Midlands, noticed a big change in his mother during the Covid pandemic. “I remember walking home from work one day and I got this phone call and all of a sudden she was listing off these conspiracy theories at me.” He now realises how much time she was spending online, on her phone and iPad, cut off from friends, family and the church life that had always been so important to her. An intriguing, punchy fusion of Taiwanese and Italian noodle dishes Last year, the comedian Nish Kumar accused me of being in the pocket of “big cabbage”, because I was waxing lyrical about it. But look here, Nish, everyone is cabbage obsessed . It’s not just the Guardian; the internet is awash with “best cabbage” recipes and there’s a lot to love: it’s cheap, generous and genuinely delicious cooked and wilted down with onions (or shallots), as in this spaghetti. The inspiration behind the dish was a jar of Taiwanese Bullshead shallot sauce , a sweet, smoky and savoury sauce that I love to dollop into and on to all things eggs, noodles, vegetables and rice, but that I ran out of recently, prompting me to make a simple, store-cupboard alternative. The experience of a Kenyan politician who dared to have her babies abroad is far from unique, laws are not enough to make digital spaces safe for women In March last year, soon after giving birth to her twins, Susan Kihika was subjected to a campaign of online abuse. Kihika, who is governor of Nakuru county in Kenya’s rift valley, was accused of abandoning her country because she took her maternity leave in the US after being treated there for a high-risk pregnancy. The criticism quickly escalatedto attacks and sexist smears. Soon social media commenters were accusing her of sleeping her way into politics. Her location was shared. Continue reading...
