Beneath the surface of a stock market sitting at record highs, signs of trepidation are building. Worries about resilient inflation, bond market volatility and the war in Iran are weighing on investors, pushing gauges of positioning to levels that suggest some of them don’t own enough equities, according to an analysis by Jefferies LLC. Rising worries are also evident among hedge funds , where short positions in products that protect against broader declines in the US stock market are hovering at a 10-year high, according to traders at Goldman Sachs Group Inc. The newfound uncertainty is music to equity bulls’ ears as it puts a brake on overheating in a stock market that has posted a record every other day since mid-April. Cash sitting on the sidelines could be put to use, should the biggest risks around the artificial intelligence trade and the situation in the Middle East fail to materialize. “Strong Nvidia results and more positive headlines on potential US-Iran peace deal can contribute to a squeeze higher in equities as hedge funds could be forced to cover their short positions,” said Frank Monkam , head cross asset macro strategy and trading at Buffalo Bayou Commodities. If you’ve been perusing social media, particularly X, lately, you’ve seen a parade of pundits remarking on the debt trap that the Fed and other central banks find themselves in. It’s essentially the same story I’ve been preaching for the last decade... but it all appears to be coming to a head right now. In short, the inflationary implications of higher oil prices are driving traders away from risk assets (stocks, metals, bonds, etc.) in fear of a hawkish Fed monetary policy in response. Simultaneously, longer-term investors as well as other central banks are cutting back or even selling U.S. Treasuries due to the inescapable math of debt and rising debt service costs... and in many cases because they simply need the money. The end result is that Treasury yields have been soaring on both the short and long ends since the Iran war began. And this has helped drive gold and other assets lower . I posted this chart on X yesterday showing the very strong inverse correlation lately between 10-year Treasury yields and gold: Even more importantly, real yields (yields minus the rate of inflation) have been rising precipitously. Our friend Peter Boockvar noted this development and posted a chart of the real 10-year yield to accompany his comments: “There is a common belief that the only reason why bond yields are rising is because of growing inflation worries. The firm kept its Buy rating and $290 price target on the shares of the British chip architecture designer. "Nvidia has visibility for $20bn of standalone Vera CPU sales this year, which is positive for Arm’s royalty outlook," said analyst Janardan Menon and his team. The analysts noted that the strong demand Nvidia is seeing for Vera should also translate into similarly strong demand for Arm’s Arm General Infrastructure, or AGI, CPUs, as agentic AI drives CPU demand broadly. For the first time, public investors can take a closer look at the finances of the world's most dominant space business and one of the most anticipated IPO in recent memory. The Story So Far The company is targeting a valuation of $1.75T to raise $75B - more than double Saudi Aramco's (Tadawul: 2222) $26B record from 2019. According to the prospectus, SpaceX made $18.7B of revenue in 2025 with a net loss of $4.9B. For Q1 2026 up to March 31st, revenue was $4.7B for an annual run-rate of about $20B. SpaceX Financials (SpaceX Prospectus) More than the entire loss was due to the xAI division, where it was losing $6.4B on $3.2B of revenue in 2025 prior to being acquired by SpaceX. Without xAI, SpaceX would've been comfortably profitable. These results hardly seems to justify a $1.75T market cap. At this target IPO valuation, SpaceX will be trading at roughly 88x run-rate revenue. However, these backwards-looking numbers don't tell the whole story - not even close. The Anthropic Deal SpaceX announced a deal this month with the compute-strapped Anthropic ( ANTHRO ) to make use of SpaceXAI's older Colossus 1 data center. The prospectus reveals that this deal will provide $1.25B/month revenue, and SpaceX looks to further expand this business. Just watching Andy Burnham’s four-minute campaign video released earlier this week leaves you in need of a lie down. Andy can’t step outside his front door without people throwing themselves at his feet. Men throw palm leaves across the pavement and openly weep with joy. They can’t imagine a life without him and insist on buying him a pint. Women grab his hand ask him to be the father of their babies. Shopkeepers beg him to come inside and cut the ribbon to open their new freezer cabinet. Being the Messiah is a very demanding occupation. But I guess someone’s got to do it. It must be annoying though to have to live your life to a soundtrack of Oasis playing in the background. Still, at least the sun is always shining. Which is not how I remember the city.
