But Garry Trudeau’s Doonesbury cartoons are different, with characters ageing, evolving, having children and occasionally even dying. Still active after 56 years, Trudeau’s sprawling narrative – woven through the four-panel confines of a comic strip – invites comparison with Charles Dickens. “If you want to understand Victorian England, reading a handful of Dickens novels can get you there,” said Joshua Kendall, author of a the first major biography of Trudeau. “In the same way about the late 20th and early 21st century, Trudeau has got all these different characters and they’re growing and changing. For my generation Garry was like a mentor and Doonesbury was like a survival guide of how to get through yuppiedom in the 80s and various stages. “Every biography is kind of an autobiography and, even though I stuck to the evidence, it was a way to think about my own life too and that was very appealing. I had also gone to a fancy prep school and just some of the issues that he was dealing with as a young man were ones that I was struggling with. Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:NVDA) CEO Jensen Huang has announced its plan to invest about $150 billion annually in Taiwan, positioning the country as the “epicentre” of the AI revolution. Nvidia’s investment in Taiwan has seen a substantial increase over the years. “Four years ago, five years ago, Nvidia was spending about 10, 15 billion dollars a year in Taiwan. Now we’re spending 100, going to 150 billion dollars in Taiwan each year,” Huang stated during the launch celebration in Taipei for the chipmaker’s planned Taiwan headquarters at Beitou Shilin Technology Park on Wednesday, reported Reuters. “Taiwan is booming,” Huang said, adding that the new site will employ around 4,000 people. “…This is where the chips come, packaging comes, this is where the systems are made, this is where AI supercomputers were created.” Nvidia Expands Amid Smuggling Probe Huang has also declared China a ‘Very Important’ market for Nvidia, further emphasizing the strategic importance of the Asia-Pacific region for the company’s growth. South Korea’s programme to develop engines that can power flying drones to serve as loyal wingmen for fighter jets suggests that Seoul has set its sights on competing at the top level in the global market for autonomous military systems, analysts said. Hanwha Aerospace , one of the country’s largest defence contractors, announced the programme on Tuesday – a joint project with South Korean space agency Kasa to develop a 4,500-pound-class (2,040kg) turbofan engine by 2029. The engine will be suitable for collaborative combat aircraft (CCA) systems and other unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) platforms. It will be developed through matching-fund investment as part of the government-backed UAV propulsion portfolio. Chinese short-video company Kuaishou Technology beat estimates with 33.7 billion yuan (US$5 billion) in revenue in the first quarter, driven by the rapid commercialisation of its flagship artificial intelligence video generator, Kling AI Overall revenue grew 3.4 per cent, but Kling’s revenue surged more than 300 per cent to 650 million yuan in the period, the company said on Wednesday. “AI technologies continued to provide the momentum for our content prosperity, business growth and organisational efficiency improvement,” Kuaishou said, adding that Kling had claimed the top position in the App Store across 42 markets, including Brazil and Germany.
