Woohae Cho/Getty Images News Nvidia ( NVDA ) has traded weakly since reporting earnings, and I view this market hesitance as being a pure gift. Sure, it can be difficult watching other chip stocks such as Micron ( MU ) deliver torrid returns over the same time period, but I am seeing strong upside ahead even if NVDA ends up seeing growth decelerate meaningfully over the coming years. Yet management is quite confident to the contrary, that agentic and robotic AI applications may allow growth to sustain or even accelerate over the medium term, leading to a scenario which I would expect to lead to spectacular stock returns. I am sticking by my strong buy rating as NVDA is now one of my top picks in the market today. NVDA Stock Price I last covered NVDA in March where I stated that the market was wrong, and time would allow the thesis to play out. The stock has soared 22% since. Data by YCharts The market’s lukewarm reaction to blockbuster earnings indicates a great deal of skepticism. The problem with that kind of headwind is that the overhang can continue indefinitely. But in this case, NVDA comes with a bazooka and nothing is stopping this train. Nvidia Stock Key Metrics NVDA needs no introduction but just in case - the company is best known for its graphics processing units (‘GPUs’) which stand head and shoulders over competitors in terms of performance, making them extremely valuable for use in the AI markets. In the most recent quarter, Nvidia generated 85% YoY revenue growth to $81.6 billion, crushing guidance of $78 billion. That growth rate is unprecedented at this scale and represented an acceleration from the 73% growth rate in the fourth quarter. FY27 Q1 Presentation The company delivered the strong growth from its data center segment. The company has split this segment into two components between the hyperscalers and AI Clouds, Industrial, and Enterprise (‘ACIE’). Biden Sues To Block DOJ Release Of Audio Recordings From Biographer Interviews Authored by Aldgra Fredly via The Epoch Times, Former President Joe Biden filed a lawsuit on May 26 in a bid to block the Department of Justice (DOJ) from releasing audio recordings and transcripts of his private conversations with a biographer that were connected to a 2023 special counsel probe into his handling of classified records. The lawsuit , filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, comes as the DOJ planned to release the materials to the House Judiciary Committee and conservative think tank The Heritage Foundation on June 15. The materials stemmed from private conversations Biden had with ghostwriter Mark Zwonitzer in his home between 2016 and 2017 as part of the writing process for his memoir titled “Promise Me, Dad: A Year of Hope, Hardship, and Purpose.” The book detailed Biden’s decision to run for the 2016 presidency while his eldest son, Beau, fought brain cancer and later passed away in 2015, according to the lawsuit. The DOJ later obtained the materials in 2023 as part of former special counsel Robert Hur’s investigation into Biden’s handling of classified information after his vice presidency. The probe ended in 2024 with findings that Biden had willfully retained classified materials, though no criminal charges were pursued. Hur said at the time that the evidence fell short of proof beyond a reasonable doubt. According to Biden’s lawsuit, the DOJ initially withheld the materials under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) on the grounds that they were exempt from disclosure, but the department later reversed its position under President Donald Trump’s second term. The lawsuit seeks judicial review to stop the DOJ from disclosing the materials, citing Biden’s privacy rights and the DOJ’s obligations to protect “sensitive and highly personal law enforcement information.” “Every American, including a sitting or former Vice President, has a right to ...

Welcome to our guide to the commodities driving the global economy. Today, reporter Mitchell Ferman looks at the renewed management upheaval at oil giant BP. In the last three years, BP Plc has had three CEOs and — after Tuesday’s firing of Albert Manifold — it will soon be on its third chairman . This endless upheaval isn’t only detrimental to the company’s efforts to turn itself around after years of underperformance. It calls into question decision-making at its highest levels. BP’s chairman was abruptly ousted on Tuesday after just eight months in the job, with the company citing serious concerns about conduct, governance standards and oversight. Manifold himself said he was fired without warning or explanation and will challenge the company’s version of events. This unexpected turn is especially damaging because it prolongs exactly the kind of upheaval that Manifold was brought in stop. Over the past 25 years, BP has cycled through a series of leaders whose departures were tied to scandal, crisis or strategic failure. John Browne, architect of modern BP through its 1998 merger with Amoco, was forced to resign in 2007 after a court case exposed previous lies. His successor Tony Hayward became defined by the 2010 Deepwater Horizon disaster and oil spill, and was ultimately pushed out. His replacement, Bob Dudley, stands out as the exception to BP’s leadership troubles. He steered the company through the aftermath of Deepwater Horizon, becoming the only CEO in a generation to end his 10-year tenure largely on his own terms and in good standing. Yet more turbulence followed Dudley’s retirement. Bernard Looney, appointed to the top job in 2020, initially looked like the man to modernize BP for a low-carbon future, only to resign in 2023 after failing to fully disclose past relationships with colleagues. Picking up the pieces of Looney’s failed net-zero push fell to Chairman Helge Lund and Chief Financial Officer Murray Auchincloss, who later became CEO. Neither had ...

The results of the Xi-Trump summit and their implications for regional security will take centre stage this week during Asia’s largest defence forum, the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, according to analysts. Zhu Feng, dean of Nanjing University’s School of International Studies, said US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth’s speech at the forum would serve as an important gauge of how much the talks between Chinese President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart Donald Trump had helped stabilise bilateral relations. With the Iran war entering its fourth month, analysts said countries in the Asia-Pacific would look for signals about US efforts to end the conflict, which has sparked worries about its impact on Asian security commitments and economies. A gauge of US-China ties Chinese Defence Minister Dong Jun is likely to be absent from the forum for a second consecutive year, reducing hopes for a high-level meeting between Beijing and Washington on the sidelines. Advertisement “US-China relations, how they may evolve, the fundamental perceptions and positions each side holds towards the other, as well as their respective views on a range of regional security issues will certainly be a major focus this year,” Zhu said. Asia-Pacific countries will be closely watching Washington’s evolving strategy and commitment in the region, as well as Beijing’s security posture and its positions on key issues including the South China Sea and Taiwan. Advertisement Beijing and Washington have traded accusations over those issues at the forum in recent years.

JHVEPhoto Workday ( WDAY ) was in focus on Wednesday as Bank of America resumed coverage on the back office software provider with a Neutral rating and a $140 price target. “We view Workday as a mission-critical system of record with an entrenched installed base,” analyst Tal Liani wrote in a note to clients. “However, revenue growth has decelerated from ~30% to mid-to-low teens in the last 7-8 years, with our estimates calling for 10-12% growth over the next 3 years. In our view, the debate has shifted from “'quality of franchise' to 're-acceleration visibility', with guidance pointing to a normalized, lower-growth SaaS trajectory.” Delving deeper, Liani said that artificial intelligence has become a “strategic necessity but [an] economic uncertainty” for the company. “We see limited risk of outright displacement given Workday’s deep entrenchment across HCM, payroll and core employee data, reinforced by high switching costs and regulatory requirements,” Liani added. “However, we focus instead on value compression risks, as seat-based monetization faces pressure from headcount rationalization, potential pressure on contract pricing and duration, and a gradual shift toward agent-based pricing. While Workday’s response, through Illuminate and Sana, is strategically sound, monetization remains nascent and may take time to offset pressure on the traditional seat model.” More on Workday Workday Q1: Shares Undervalued As AI Complements, Not Replaces Workday, Inc. (RTTNews) - The Canadian market is likely to open on a positive note on Wednesday, tracking fairly strong quarterly earnings updates from major banks. Concerns about Middle East tensions may weigh a bit and render the mood cautious. BMO Financial Group (BMO.TO) reported a net income of C$2.49 billion for the second-quarter, compared to C$1.82 billion in the year-ago quarter. Earnings per share were C$3.53 versus C$2.50 last year. Bank of Nova Scotia (BNS.TO) reported adjusted net income of $2,652 million for the second-quarter, compared to $2,072 million a year ago. Earnings per share (diluted) came in at $2.02, compared to $1.52 in the year-ago quarter. National Bank of Canada (NA.TO) reported a second-quarter profit of $1.23 billion, up from $896 million a year ago. The bank's second-quarter profit amounted to $3.06 per diluted share for the quarter ended April 30, compared with $2.17 per diluted share a year ago. The Canadian market closed weak on Tuesday, snapping a four-day winning run, as fresh U.S. military attacks on Iranian targets weighed on sentiment. The benchmark S&P/TSX Composite Index, which traded weak right through the session, settled with a loss of 177.02 points or 0.51% at 34,653.87. Asian stocks turned in a mixed performance on Wednesday, with Chinese and Hong Kong markets declining after China punished three brokerages for offering mainland investors access to overseas stocks without licenses. Positive sentiment prevailed elsewhere across Asia amid a surge in technology stocks and easing geopolitical tensions. European stocks are broadly higher amid some optimism about a resolution to the Middle East conflict. A sharp drop in oil prices is also contributing to the positive mood in most of the markets in the region. In commodities trading, West Texas Intermediate crude oil futures are down $5.17 or 5.51% at $88.72 a barrel. Gold futures are down $45.80 or 1.02% at $4,456.50 an ounce, while Silver futures are lower by $1.226 or 1.6% at $75.380 an...
