(1:45) The following is an abridged transcript: The first feature-length film generated entirely with artificial intelligence will debut at the 2026 Tribeca Film Festival on June 10, marking the first AI-generated live-action film to premiere at a major festival. “Dreams of Violets” documents the January Tehran protests through the eyes of Amir, a 10-year-old boy with cerebral palsy. Produced by Fountain O and directed by Tehran-born Ash Koosha, the film was made in roughly three months for about $2K using tools including Anthropic’s ( ANTHRO ) Claude AI for language editing, Kling AI for video generation, and Google’s ( GOOG ) ( GOOGL ) Gemini and Nanobanana for research and imagery. Koosha said he worked on the film in his spare time after following reports of the protests and the government’s violent crackdown. Without access to actors, Iran or a Hollywood budget, he turned to AI to bring the story to life. “The film is not a technological exercise but a way to create a memorial film for an event that happened behind a wall I cannot cross,” Koosha told Variety. Among active stocks, J.P. Morgan upgraded MGM Resorts ( MGM ) to Overweight from Neutral, citing growing conviction that Las Vegas EBITDAR estimates have bottomed . Analysts see growth improving in the coming months on easier comparisons and continued resilience from the U.S. leisure traveler. Boston Scientific ( BSX ) hit a 52-week low after highlighting an ongoing slowdown in demand for its WATCHMAN cardiac implant. And Dycom Industries ( DY ) is soaring after the telecom infrastructure contractor posted record Q1 results and raised its full-year outlook amid booming demand for fiber and datacenter construction. ...

Benzinga and Yahoo Finance LLC may earn commission or revenue on some items through the links below. Krista LeRay turned a pandemic-era hobby into a roughly $10 million business built around needlepoint, the craft of stitching decorative designs onto canvas. Five years after launching Penny Linn Designs from her New York apartment, she told Business Insider in February that the brand had grown far beyond its early handmade canvases. LeRay said social media and pop culture references helped bring younger customers into needlepoint. The Orders Poured In. The Profit Didn't Penny Linn Designs sold $25,000 worth of painted canvases within two hours of launching online in September 2020, according to CNBC. Don't Miss: Everyone's watching EV stocks — fewer are paying attention to the lithium powering them The AI Marketing Platform Backed by Insiders from Google, Meta, and Amazon — Invest at $0.95/Share But the early economics were difficult. LeRay had to paint each one by hand before shipping it. Each 4-inch-by-4-inch canvas sold for about $50 and took roughly six hours to paint. After spending about $7,000 on supplies, LeRay estimated she was earning around $2 an hour. At the time, she was still working as a lifestyle blogger in New York, earning as much as $242,000 annually through brand partnerships and social media content. "It made me think this could never be my job, just because it's so labor intensive," she said. The Pop Culture Designs That Helped The Craft Go Viral LeRay told CNBC demand kept growing as more people turned to hands-on crafts during the COVID-19 pandemic. Penny Linn's painted canvases gave customers a ready-made design they could stitch by hand. She said the hobby gained even more momentum after needlepoint Christmas ornaments went viral on TikTok in 2023. Most Penny Linn Designs customers are under 35, and the company focuses on beginner-friendly patterns and what LeRay described as a "coastal preppy" aesthetic. Penny Linn Designs now works with m...

Earnings Call Insights: PDD Holdings (PDD) Q1 2026 Management View “This year marks the beginning of PDD's second decade… a critical year for the complete reinvention of our corporate organization and culture,” said (Co-CEO & Co-Chairman of the Board Jiazhen Zhao), adding that “safety, compliance and social responsibility” are being treated as “the absolute prerequisite for everything we do.” Zhao said the company “entered a new phase of the 3-year strategy to build another Pinduoduo,” and highlighted the formal launch of the first-party brand business: “In March, we incorporated a dedicated company in Shanghai… with an initial cash injection of RMB 15 billion and plan to invest RMB 100 billion over the next 3 years.” (General Counsel, Co-CEO & Co-Chairman of the Board Lei Chen) said “steady progress was made in our first-party brand business,” with teams “deep into the industrial belts” and “deep cooperations… to design and develop first-party brand products tailored to different global markets.” (Vice President of Finance Jun Liu) said, “in the first quarter, our total revenues increased 11% year-over-year to RMB 106.2 billion,” and attributed this mainly to transaction services. Outlook Management did not provide quantitative revenue, EPS, or margin guidance in the prepared remarks or Q&A. Zhao described the strategic intent of the first-party brand push as supply-chain driven: “we will take on more risks while sharing rewards with the supply chain manufacturers,” and “we will remain highly focused, continue to invest heavily in the supply chain.” On global business priorities, management said the emphasis is on supply chain and brands: “we will direct our efforts on 2 fronts… [supply chain] integration and optimization… [and] deepen the development of the first-party brand model,” according to (Co-CEO Zhao). Financial Results Liu reported revenue composition as RMB 49.9 billion from “online marketing services and others” and RMB 56.3 billion from “transaction se...

Micron has joined the trillion-dollar valuation club – and it's the black sheep of the flock, according to multiple metrics. While mega-caps like Alphabet , Amazon , Nvidia , Microsoft and Apple reached the trillion-dollar mark with the help of impresario CEOs and ubiquitous brand awareness, Micron's rise as a component maker is due more to its location in rapidly changing tech supply chains during the explosive artificial intelligence boom. Micron is not alone in its ascent. South Korean memory chip makers SK Hynix and Samsung have also recently broken through to trillion-dollar valuations as the entire sector has increased in importance. Demand for memory is showing little sign of slowing down as higher-capability artificial intelligence cements a commercial foothold. Across memory products including DRAM, NAND and high-bandwidth, Micron is working to make the most of its strategic position in the AI value chain. "Quarterly revenue nearly tripled versus one year ago, and revenue for DRAM, NAND, HBM and each business unit reached new highs," CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said during the company's latest earnings call in March, projecting fiscal 2026 capital expenditure above $25 billion. "Micron is working to address the unprecedented gap between supply and demand." A 'low-key' CEO Consumer electronics maker Apple was for a long time synonymous with its founder, Steve Jobs, who's been the subject of biographies and a Hollywood biopic. Current CEO Tim Cook has likewise become a pop culture fixture. That's true of several trillion-dollar CEOs, including Nvidia founder Jensen Huang and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. Microsoft has spawned multiple executive celebrities like Bill Gates, Steve Ballmer and Satya Nadella, while Alphabet has produced Larry Page and Sundar Pichai. But Micron has had four CEOs since its founding in 1978, and none of them have been celebrities. CNBC's Jim Cramer has described Mehrotra as "low-key." "[Micron] is run by the contemplative Sanjay Mehrotra [who ...

Rush Street Interactive ( RSI ) filed for a DCM license last week. The license is a regulatory authorization that allows a firm to access and operate in debt capital markets. For Rush Street ( RSI ), a DCM license would set it up to offer a prediction markets product offering in the future. Susquehanna analyst Joseph Strauff sees the development as a positive, as it positions Rush Street ( RSI ) for prediction markets optionality without a full commitment yet. "With President Trump's endorsement yesterday that the CFTC maintain exclusive authority over PM (not the states), the pending rule-making process by the CFTC becomes even more important (we estimate a 3Q26 release where some of the props markets are likely to be narrowed given what we think is the CFTC's bright line on clarifying settlement mechanisms)," highlighted Strauff. During its last earnings conference call, Rush Street ( RSI ) management indicated that customer acquisition costs for the company have not moved higher due to prediction markets. However, the company offering its own prediction markets products was not discussed. More on Rush Street Interactive Rush Street Interactive, Inc. Hilary Wardhaugh/Getty Images News Canada is in talks with Sweden’s Saab ( SAABF ) ( SAABY ) to acquire GlobalEye surveillance aircraft as Prime Minister Mark Carney moves to expand military spending and deepen security ties with Europe. Speaking at a defense conference in Ottawa on Wednesday, Carney said the aircraft would improve Canada’s ability to monitor threats in the Arctic. Saab ( SAABF ) ( SAABY ) said it has proposed building, servicing and upgrading the planes in partnership with Canadian companies, though no contract has been finalized. The GlobalEye system is built on an aircraft platform supplied by Montreal-based Bombardier ( BDRBF )( BDRAF )( BOMBF ). Carney said roughly one-third of production could take place in Canada, supporting an estimated 3,000 aerospace jobs, many of them in Quebec. Canada had also reviewed early-warning aircraft from L3Harris Technologies ( LHX ) and Boeing ( BA ) before selecting Saab, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing military analyst David Perry of the Canadian Global Affairs Institute. L3Harris said it plans to continue discussions with Ottawa, while Boeing said it would keep working with Canada on future defense needs. The move reflects Carney’s broader effort to increase defense spending and bring Canada closer to NATO targets after years of criticism from allies over lagging military investment. Carney said future defense projects should strengthen both national security and domestic manufacturing, particularly as Canadian industry faces pressure from U.S. tariffs. Perry said the government appears committed to steering more defense spending toward Canadian companies. The Saab discussions also highlight Ottawa’s push to diversify defense partnerships beyond the United States as tensions with Washington rise over trade and security policy. Earlier this month, U.S. Defense Department official Elbridge Colby publicly criticized Canada for failing to make meaningful progress on defense commitments, arguing allies m...
