Key Points Novo Nordisk is outpacing Eli Lilly in the oral weight loss market. However, Eli Lilly is still the overall leader in chronic weight management. Eli Lilly is posting strong financial results and has a vast portfolio and a deep pipeline. 10 stocks we like better than Eli Lilly › Novo Nordisk (NYSE: NVO) pioneered weight loss medicines with Wegovy, an anti-obesity therapy that quickly became a hit. However, it lost its lead to Eli Lilly's (NYSE: LLY) Zepbound, which was approved more than two years after Wegovy. Novo Nordisk is still trying to regain its crown, and the Denmark-based pharmaceutical giant seems to be outpacing Eli Lilly in the oral anti-obesity niche. Could this become a problem for Eli Lilly? More than a first-mover advantage Novo Nordisk launched oral Wegovy in January, while Eli Lilly's competitor, Foundayo, hit the shelves in April. So, it's not that surprising that the former has more prescriptions so far. Both are attracting a significant number of patients who are brand-new to the GLP-1 class. Eli Lilly's management reports that so far, those represent 80% of patients, whereas that number stood at 36% for oral Wegovy. Will AI create the world's first trillionaire? Our team just released a report on the one little-known company, called an "Indispensable Monopoly" providing the critical technology Nvidia and Intel both need. Continue » However, according to some data, Foundayo is trailing oral Wegovy in terms of prescription volumes at similar points after their respective launches. This may be because oral Wegovy was first-in-class, but there are likely other reasons as well. For instance, Novo Nordisk's pill seems more effective than its competitor's. It's always hard to compare across clinical trials, but oral Wegovy's 13.6% mean weight loss (at the highest dose) in 64-weeks in a phase 3 study looks a lot better than Foundayo's 11.1% mean weight loss in 72 weeks. True, the latter does have some advantage. It can be administered withou...

Why Is Consumer Sentiment At Record Lows? Authored by Charles Hugh Smith via substack, Consumer sentiment is at record lows because there is zero visibility on any real-world trends that would be positive for the bottom 90%. Vague promises of super-abundance are not visibility. Why is consumer sentiment at record lows while the stock market is at record highs? The media / social media are ablaze with coverage and commentary on this K-shaped economy , for example: The Stock Market Has Never Been So Good When People Have Felt So Bad : Stocks are partying like it’s 1999. Americans haven’t been this gloomy in 70 years. (wsj.com) While much commentary focuses on the rising cost of living (i.e. inflation) and the potential disruption of jobs by AI, these miss the larger dynamic of visibility , i.e. what is visible looking forward. If the horizon is clouded by uncertainty and unaffordability, then the core investments in the future--a family home and a family--are no longer in reach except for the lucky few inheriting wealth while they’re young. A high-paying job that isn’t secure is not a foundation, it’s a temporary raft in a tempestuous sea. Why So Few Babies? We Might Have Overlooked the Biggest Reason of All. What unites these disparate cultures, policy environments and demographics, researchers are now realizing, is young people’s inescapable and crushing sense that the future is too uncertain for the lifelong commitment of parenthood. The future has never been assured, but it feels as though we are living in a time of spectacular uncertainty. The Gen X writer Astra Taylor calls ours “the age of insecurity”; the Gen Z writer Kyla Scanlon has described “the end of predictable progress.” Gen Z-ers’ uncertainty about the future can’t be captured by the usual metrics or entered neatly into a spreadsheet. But it may be the X factor in the global parenting free fall. Raising children is an inherently forward-looking project, and in Professor Vignoli’s analysis, increasing ...

HP Inc. gave a profit forecast for the current quarter that topped analysts’ estimates, signaling that the company is weathering a dramatic increase in memory chip prices. The shares jumped in extended trading. Profit, excluding items such as restructuring costs, will be 61 cents to 71 cents a share in the period ending in July, HP said Wednesday in a statement. The midpoint of that range, 66 cents, compares with an average of analysts’ estimates of 64 cents, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. HP is benefiting as customers replace gear and invest in new systems to take advantage of interest in artificial intelligence. But AI demand has also created a shortage of memory chips that has increased costs rapidly. To cope, HP has raised prices, brought in more suppliers and changed some products to require less memory. “With two solid quarters behind us, we are executing with discipline in a dynamic environment and are strengthening our outlook,” Chief Financial Officer Karen Parkhill said in the statement. The shares jumped about 13% in extended trading after closing at $25.49 in New York. The stock has gained 14% this year. For the fiscal second quarter, HP reported profit was 86 cents a share on sales of $14.4 billion. Analysts, on average, estimated adjusted earnings of 71 cents on sales of $14 billion. The company reported an adjusted operating margin of 7.5%, compared with an average estimate of 6.6%. CEO Enrique Lores to its top executive post. HP appointed Bruce Broussard , a board member, as interim leader while it looks for a replacement. Revenue increased 13% to $10.2 billion in the company’s computer unit, Personal Systems. The division was led by a 14% jump in business PC sales.

skynesher/E+ via Getty Images RPM International’s ( RPM ) stock rose 2.5% Wednesday after UBS upgraded the specialty coatings and construction materials company to Buy from Neutral, citing improving pricing power, cost savings opportunities and signs of a recovery in non-residential construction spending. UBS analyst Joshua Spector raised his price target on RPM ( RPM ) to $130 from $118, implying roughly 26% upside from Tuesday’s closing price of $102.90. The firm said RPM’s exposure to repair and maintenance markets, along with expected increases in U.S. manufacturing and industrial capital spending, should support growth in its Construction Products and Performance Coatings segments. UBS also pointed to improving trends in non-residential construction data over the past three months. “An inflection in non-res spending in 2H26 and increased manufacturing and industrial-linked capex spend in the U.S. should be positive for RPM’s Performance & Construction segment volumes,” Spector wrote. UBS said RPM ( RPM ) has outperformed broader construction trends because about 65% of its sales are tied to repair and remodeling activity, which tends to be more stable than new construction. The analyst also said the company has been gaining share by selling broader building solutions such as roofing, flooring and wall systems. Margins expected to recover UBS said investors may be overly pessimistic about RPM’s earnings outlook for fiscal 2027. The firm estimates the market is pricing in adjusted earnings declines of 5% to 10%, while UBS expects roughly 2% adjusted earnings growth. The report argued that RPM is better positioned to offset raw material inflation than during the 2021-2022 inflation cycle because pricing actions are being implemented more quickly and cost increases are expected to be less severe. UBS forecasts RPM’s adjusted EBIT margin will decline only modestly to 12.8% in fiscal 2027 from 13.1% in fiscal 2026, before recovering to 14.8% in fiscal 2028 as raw mat...

May 27 (Reuters) - HP beat Wall Street estimates for second-quarter revenue and profit on Wednesday, driven by strong demand for AI-optimized personal computers and the Windows 11 refresh cycle. PC makers including HP, Dell Technologies and China's Lenovo Group are navigating a shortage of memory chips as data center buildout is sucking up capacity and triggering price increases of smartphones and PCs. That supply crunch is pushing some enterprises toward higher-margin premium devices during the Windows 11 upgrade cycle after Microsoft ended support for Windows 10 in October last year. Last week, rival Lenovo reported a better-than-expected 27% jump in fourth-quarter revenue, as strong consumer demand for PCs ahead of potential price hikes helped the world's largest computer maker expand its market share. HP's second-quarter revenue rose 9% to $14.41 billion from a year ago, beating LSEG-compiled analysts' average estimate of $14.07 billion. Its adjusted earnings per share of 86 cents also topped estimates of 71 cents for the quarter ended April 30. "During the second quarter, we continued executing our future of work strategy through intelligent devices, edge AI, and connected experiences while navigating rising commodity costs," HP interim CEO Bruce Broussard said in a statement. The company's "future of work" strategy focuses on AI-powered PCs, hybrid work tools and workplace software. HP said it now expects fiscal 2026 adjusted EPS of $2.90 to $3.10, compared with its prior estimates of $2.90 to $3.20. The company expects third-quarter adjusted EPS between 61 cents and 71 cents, the mid-point of which was slightly above estimates of 64 cents. SpaceX plans to go public next month under the ticker SPCX, and the company just gave investors a first look at its financials. While the space company claims it has the "largest actionable total addressable market in human history" at $28.5 trillion, its actual numbers aren't exactly pretty. As such, investors will have to weigh current reality against future potential. SpaceX's largest business is Starlink, its satellite internet service, which grew revenue by 31% to $3.3 billion in the first quarter and generated $11.4 billion in revenue in 2025. It has also been its only profitable segment, generating $4.4 billion in operating income last year. This is a nice recurring-revenue business, with the company having consistently grown its subscriber base over the past several years. It's gone from 2.3 million users in 2023 to 8.9 million at the end of 2025, and that jumped to 10.3 million in the first quarter of 2026, showing its strong momentum. Image source: The Motley Fool.
