Brett_Hondow/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Eaton ( ETN ) said it will invest more than $30 million to expand its U.S. manufacturing footprint with a new facility in Nebraska, citing rising demand for electrical equipment tied to the rapid buildout of data centers. The company plans to construct a 370,000-square-foot plant in Bellevue, near Omaha, with production expected to begin in the first half of 2027, according to an announcement on Wednesday. The site will manufacture medium-voltage switchgear, equipment used to regulate and protect electrical systems in data centers, utilities and industrial settings. The investment comes as power infrastructure is emerging as a potential bottleneck for the expansion of artificial intelligence and cloud computing facilities. Industry estimates point to nearly 3,000 data centers either planned or under construction across the United States, increasing pressure on supply chains for critical electrical components. Eaton ( ETN ) said the Nebraska facility will focus on both air-insulated and gas-insulated switchgear, with products tailored to integrate into modular power systems commonly used in large-scale data center deployments. The company expects the site to support higher production volumes and faster delivery timelines for customers building out new capacity. The U.S. market for switchgear is projected to expand significantly over the next decade, growing from roughly $17.8 billion in 2024 to about $31.8 billion by 2034, according to industry estimates cited by the company. The project is expected to create more than 200 jobs across engineering, manufacturing and production roles. Hiring is set to begin later this year. Eaton said employees from its existing Omaha-area operations will gradually transition to the new facility, which is located about six miles from its current site. Nebraska officials, including Governor Jim Pillen and Bellevue Mayor Rusty Hike, said the expansion would support local employment and stren...

Philippe TURPIN/Photononstop via Getty Images Introduction Previously, I’ve written a Seeking Alpha article on Micron Technology, Inc. ( MU ). My thesis on MU is largely based on the intense requirements of AI infrastructure creating an extraordinary level of demand for high-performance memory, which typically is a cyclical industry; however, my view is that memory companies are moving past historical cyclicality into a phase with more structural demand. The beneficiaries of this memory shortage extend beyond MU to Korean companies like SK Hynix Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. ( SSNLF ). I am initiating coverage on the iShares MSCI South Korea ETF ( EWY ) with a Strong Buy rating. My core thesis hinges on an AI memory supercycle where demand is now structural & not cyclical, an overhaul of Korean companies through the Value-Up program set to decrease the “Korea discount,” and a macroeconomic recovery that is decoupling from traditional emerging market risks. A Concentrated Play On Memory The traditional understanding of the memory industry is that it is bound to the cyclical fluctuations of consumer demand. However, this cyclicality is being replaced with structural demand driven by the expansion of AI infrastructure. The driver of this memory supercycle is High Bandwidth Memory (HBM). As LLMs grow in complexity, the bottleneck for AI training and inference has moved on from being raw compute power to memory bandwidth. Various Sources HBM4 requires approximately three times the wafer capacity of standard DRAM to produce the same number of bits. This increased die size significantly reduces the total number of chips available for the broader market, creating a structural undersupply in traditional memory used for PCs and mobile devices. As shown in the chart above, bandwidth and transfer speed per generation are increasing, showing that memory requirements for newer GPU generations are increasing & consequently there is more demand for memory. According to Gol...

Guggenheim also set a $175 price target on the stock. Shares were down 4% during Thursday trading along with the bulk of software stocks. The iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF ( IGV ) had sunk 3.4%. "In our view, Datadog has a sophisticated backend architecture that is a deep moat against competition and potential commoditization via LLMs or OTel, uniquely strong revenue contribution from multiple products, and is leading the pack in terms of agentic observability that we believe is net expansionary to the Observability software market," said Guggenheim analysts Howard Ma and Joseph DiBartolomeo in an investor report. Guggenheim estimates Datadog will experience 27% revenue growth with an operating margin of 24.5% in 2026. "We believe that the Observability market may be understated by both future workload penetration and growth, especially when considering the emergence of agentic observability," Ma noted. "We don't believe agents will replace humans but rather supplement them to analyze an otherwise insurmountable amount of data. We see agents handling initial incident responses, but agents are lightweight by design and will require extensive human oversight. The Bits AI suite is leading in its category and could serve as a new monetization lever for Datadog, perhaps via outcome-based pricing." Ruth Tanner says Labour must cap the number of industrial units and put in place the building blocks for nature-friendly farming The government’s intention to relax planning regulations to allow for more industrial chicken units is immensely shortsighted ( UK looks to relax planning rules for factory farms after industry lobbying, 2 April ). These proposals would effectively commit the UK to business as usual for chicken production, one of the least resilient and most cruel farming systems we have. It also shows a worrying lack of ambition for our upcoming UK food strategy and 25-year farming roadmap. Continue reading...

New Jersey Governor Sherrill Lifts 40-Year Nuclear Moratorium Governor Mikie Sherrill signed legislation that scraps New Jersey’s 40-year de facto moratorium on new nuclear power plants , clearing the way for expanded baseload generation in a state long plagued by some of the nation’s highest utility bills. The bill, S3870/A4528, amends the Coastal Area Facility Review Act to remove an outdated permitting roadblock tied to Nuclear Regulatory Commission waste-disposal rules that no modern project could satisfy . The NJ Department of Environmental Protection can now approve permits based on proven, NRC-compliant storage methods that have maintained a 100% safety record . Speaking after a tour of the Salem Nuclear Power Plant, Sherrill launched the state’s new Nuclear Task Force by executive order. The group, which includes officials from PSEG Nuclear, labor unions, business groups, and environmental stakeholders, will focus on five priorities : financing, supply chains and technology, workforce development, regulatory streamlining, and public trust. “ For costs to come down, we need more energy supply ,” Gov Sherrill said. “By lifting outdated barriers and bringing together leaders across government, industry, and labor, we’re setting the stage for our state to pursue new advanced nuclear power.” Existing reactors at Salem and Hope Creek already supply more than 40 percent of the state’s electricity and roughly 80 percent of its pollution-free power. A 2020 Brattle Group analysis found those plants save ratepayers more than $400 million annually while running at 90-95 percent capacity on just 740 combined acres . Milko/E+ via Getty Images Summary Following my coverage on Amadeus IT Group ( AMADF ), for which I recommended a buy rating as I saw strong growth potential supported by strong adoption rates for Nevio and vNext and also from AMADF’s new NDC content, this post is to provide an update on my thoughts on the business and stock. I still think the stock is attractive, as airlines are indeed upgrading, and the distribution side of things is not as concerning as the market thinks. In addition, the current valuation also does not accurately reflect the underlying fundamentals (i.e., the mid-term growth potential). Proof That Airlines Are Upgrading The main idea of my thesis was simple: that modern airline retailing would force carriers to upgrade their tech stack, and Nevio should benefit from that shift. Meanwhile, more NDC content should also help AMADF strengthen its role in distribution. Both of these angles are still correct, in my opinion, and we now have better support. For Nevio, my framing previously was that adoption should happen as airlines moved toward offers and orders. That happened as I thought. AMADF has Lufthansa as the most recent Nevio customer, while Stratos already has launch customers such as TUI. There is now visible commercial momentum behind both products, and that changes the debate. The question is no longer whether AMADF has the right product but how fast it can convert the installed base into adopters and how much revenue uplift it can capture as that conversion happens. On that latter point, the revenue uplift angle is also getting more credible. In my last update, I noted Finnair as an early proof point that Nevio could drive better economics, but management is now saying that some customers have seen a 3% to 6% revenue uplift from moving to a modern retailing platform. We can infer two important things from this specific data point. One, it shows that airlines are really seeing value from this upgrade; if not, they wouldn’t spend resources t...

Rawf8/iStock via Getty Images Why I Don't Believe It The "cease-fire" everybody is talking about is no longer an end-point. Instead, I see it as nothing more than a temporary technical break with many conditions and contradictions. To be formal, there will be a two week ceasefire as indicated by President Donald Trump before the next U.S. deadline, and the proposal includes one major element: the " safe, complete and immediate " reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Seyed Abbas Araghchi, X I would like to make a couple comments about all of the suffering occurring throughout the world and in particular in that area. As you know, we tend to concentrate our efforts on financial issues, markets and investment strategies. And that's perfectly fine, however, there are real people and families that have had their lives turned upside-down and are suffering greatly as a result of all of this. Therefore, I thought it was important to give some space to the humanitarian side of things prior to continuing with our discussions on finance and markets. Now moving back to the issue at hand - or rather the market - as I said before, some conditions should cause us concern. Since the main condition of the agreement is for the Strait of Hormuz to reopen, it appears the parties involved did not agree upon ending the conflict but instead focused on managing energy supplies and preventing a global energy crisis. Indeed, from the very first hours, a huge gap opened up between "ceasefire" and "enforced ceasefire": many different types of attacks occurred during this period, and several interpretations emerged concerning which elements were covered by the agreement and which were not. Bloomberg Terminal From where I sit, this situation can best be described in a number of ways. One way is simply that I do not believe the "ceasefire" represents an opportunity for investors to go out and buy everything they want , today. This is not a classic " buy the dip. " If anything, I believe this marks t...

Jolkesky/iStock via Getty Images Eve Air Mobility said it has completed 50 test flights of its full-scale engineering prototype, marking a step forward in its effort to develop an electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, or eVTOL. The company reported that the flights, which began in December 2025, have totaled more than two hours of airborne testing. Data collected during the campaign is being used to refine the aircraft’s performance and evaluate how its systems behave under different operating conditions. Eve Air Mobility's eVTOL prototype (Embraer) The prototype program is part of a broader push toward certification, with Eve planning to begin production of conforming prototypes later this year. Those aircraft are expected to be used in a formal flight test campaign with Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil , the country’s aviation regulator. Eve, which is backed by Brazilian aerospace manufacturer Embraer ( EMBJ ) , is testing a range of operational parameters, including forward speed, energy use, stability and noise. The company said it is gradually expanding the aircraft’s flight envelope, with more complex flight profiles planned, including transition flights that shift between vertical lift and forward motion. Electric vertical takeoff aircraft are being developed by multiple companies as part of efforts to establish urban air mobility networks, which envision short-distance flights within and around cities. Regulators in several countries are still working to define certification standards for the aircraft and the infrastructure needed to support them. Eve said the current testing phase will inform the design of its production aircraft and help guide the next stages of development as it moves toward regulatory approval. I have been finding treasure. Today was two tins of old coins, a sheaf of ancient foreign currency notes, a collection of old cameras, a few pipes, and an old AA car plate. All are being carefully kept for my daughters and grandsons.
