The blue chip Dow ( DJI ) was +0.1%, the benchmark S&P 500 ( SP500 ) was +0.5%, and the tech focused Nasdaq Composite ( COMP:IND ) was +0.6%. Now, here are 4 news stories that broke in the morning to watch out for: PCE inflation data: The core personal consumption expenditure price index rose 0.2% month-over-month in April, slightly below the 0.3% consensus and marking a deceleration from March’s 0.3% increase. On a year-over-year basis, core PCE held at 3.3%, in line with expectations but still well above the Fed’s 2% target. Meanwhile, consumer spending climbed 0.5% while personal income was flat, pushing the personal saving rate down to 2.6%, its lowest level in at least 16 months. Caesars Entertainment ( CZR ) buyout: Fertitta Entertainment agreed to acquire Caesars Entertainment in an all-cash transaction valued at approximately $17.6 billion, including the assumption of roughly $11.9 billion in debt. Caesars shareholders will receive $31.00 per share, representing a 49% premium over the company’s unaffected share price as of February 25. The Caesars board has approved the deal and recommends shareholder adoption. Drone stocks surge: Shares of drone companies rallied sharply after The Wall Street Journal reported that the Trump administration is considering funding agreements with several manufacturers as part of a push to expand domestic production. Unusual Machines ( UMAC ) surged 54.4%, Red Cat Holdings ( RCAT ) gained 32%, and AeroVironment ( AVAV ) rose 18.4%. Companies identified as potential Pentagon funding candidates include Performance Drone Works, Unusual Machines—whose shareholders include advisory board member Donald Trump Jr.—and Sequoia-backed Neros Technologies. The rally appeared driven more by renewed strength in large-cap growth stocks than by a single company-specific catalyst. Technology stocks outperformed the broader market, helping lift Microsoft alongside other major tech names. Pentagon Software Deal Could Benefit Microsoft Although Dell won the prime contract, Microsoft is expected to benefit significantly as the agreement expands federal adoption of Microsoft 365, Windows Enterprise and Azure cloud services. The deal could also strengthen Microsoft's recurring government software revenue and support broader deployment of its AI-powered enterprise offerings. Technical Indicators Signal Improving Momentum MSFT is back above its key short- and intermediate-term trend gauges, trading 2.2% above the 20-day SMA and 5.9% above the 50-day SMA, which keeps the near-term trend constructive. The longer-term picture is still mixed, though, with shares trading 7.5% below the 200-day SMA and a "death cross" (50-day falling below the 200-day) still in place from January. On momentum, RSI is the cleaner read right now: at 48.98, it's neutral, suggesting the stock isn't stretched and is still working through a consolidation phase after the March swing low and April swing high. In plain English, RSI helps gauge whether buying or selling has gotten overheated; near-50 typically signals a more balanced tug-of-war. Key Resistance : $433.00 — a nearby pivot area that can cap rebounds before the stock can reclaim longer-term trend levels : $433.00 — a nearby pivot area that can cap rebounds before the stock can reclaim longer-term trend levels Key Support: $401.00 — lines up closely with the 50-day SMA area, a common spot where dip-buyers look to defend trend Microsoft Earnings & Analyst Outlook Looking further out, the next major catalyst for the stock arrives with the July 29, 2026 (estimated) earnings report. Lighthouse Films/DigitalVision via Getty Images We last covered Dollar Tree, Inc. ( DLTR ) following a bit of a prolonged selloff. We were a bit early in calling for a Buy with shares at $112 at the time, as the broader market continued to selloff for another two weeks thanks to surging oil prices amid the Iran conflict. While the broader market started its rebound in April and into May, a lot of consumer discretionary names were absolutely pummeled. This was because the thought was consumers would tighten their belts with near $5 gas, as well as high utility prices. Further, that has caused inflation in other goods to ramp up again like food and clothes. Much of that has to do with higher supply chain and shipping costs. But Dollar Tree did the unthinkable. It raised prices (again). You may recall a few years ago when it raised the floor price of most goods to $1.25. Now, there are items priced well above this, not just in special sections either. This led to a solid earnings report , and we believe the growth is on the comeback, and shares are a buy at this level once again. Data by YCharts Let us discuss the results and the outlook. We saw a double-line beat against estimates, and a raised outlook. You cannot ask for much better than that. The sales print was $20 million above consensus, a slight beat. Overall, sales increased 7.3% from last year to $5.0 billion. Here is the key. The one metric with retailers that is critical is the comparable sales figure, or so-called same store sales. Well folks, same-store sales were up a solid 3.5%. That is a good result in a quarter that tends to be a bit meek. this was a solid result. While traffic was still a bit soft once again, the average ticket is up due to price increases. In Q1, Dollar Tree registered a noticeable 4.5% increase in average ticket, but this came with a 1.0% decline in traffic. These are good numbers considering consumer sentiment is in the toilet. But you must understand that Dollar Tree offers bargai...

Robert Way/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Introduction MercadoLibre ( MELI ) has lost over 35% of its market value from its peak reached in July 2025. The market has become increasingly sensitive to the compression in MELI’s operating margins, which decreased from 12.9% in 1Q 2025 to 6.9% in 1Q 2026. This 600 basis point decline in margins is the result of heavy investments in shipping and payment services. The speed and cost of delivery are considered key drivers of customer satisfaction in e-commerce. Likewise, the availability of payment solutions is crucial in a region where many people still lack basic banking account. Twenty - six years after MELI began its operations, the company was able to grow its revenue by 49% year over year in the first quarter of 2026 . This is an achievement that very few companies can match. What the market perceives as a margin compression is, in reality, one of many investment phases that are characteristic of future market share gains in the still-developing digital landscape of Latin America. Last time I wrote about MELI was in March 2024, when I noted that a pullback in price had created a buying opportunity. This time, I see a similar pattern, driven by a short-sighted market reaction that overlooks MELI’s long-term history of value creation for shareholders. At first glance, MELI may seem expensive on a P/E basis, currently trading at around 40 times FY26 earnings. However, this view is misleading, as it is based on an earnings-per-share (EPS) estimate of 41.35 USD, which is heavily impacted by this year’s elevated investment levels. I believe that MELI’s sustainable long-term profit margin is closer to 6.5% - 7.0%, compared to the current 4.7%. This would translate into an EPS of 50.7 USD – 54.6 USD or more than 20% higher than what the market is currently pricing in. Based on this more realistic EPS assumption, MELI’s fair value would range between approximately 2,030 USD and 2,185 USD per share, implying an upside of 20%...

lcva2/iStock Editorial via Getty Images As a value investor, I always like to look for discounted companies. But this does not mean that I am opposed to buying shares of businesses that are trading at higher prices if growth and quality both exist. Even though I don't own shares of it, one firm that certainly checks enough boxes to justify a "Buy" rating is technology behemoth Microsoft ( MSFT ). The firm currently has a market capitalization of $3.01 trillion, putting it as one of the only companies worth $1 trillion or more. In fact, it is currently the fourth-largest publicly traded company on the planet by market value and is one of only 13 firms with a market capitalization north of $1 trillion. Unfortunately, financial performance has not been adequately rewarded by the market in my view. Since I last wrote about the company in February of this year, shares have generated upside for investors of only 5.4%. This is actually below the 6.6% increase that the S&P 500 enjoyed. This is disappointing to say the least. But based on the amazing growth that we have seen as of late, I believe that maintaining it as a "Buy" is the right course of action. A great business at a decent price Author - SEC EDGAR Data At this time, the newest fundamental data that we have regarding Microsoft covers through the third quarter of the company's 2026 fiscal year . Honestly, I have to say that I am impressed with the results that I have seen. Revenue ended up being $82.89 billion. That's significantly above the $70.07 billion that the company reported a year earlier. And as revenue increased, profitability followed suit. Take net profits if you will. Those managed to grow from $25.82 billion to $31.78 billion. Operating cash flow jumped from $37.09 billion to $46.68 billion. And if we adjust for changes in working capital, we would get a surge from $35 billion to $46.35 billion. Finally, EBITDA for the business expanded from $39 billion to $48.50 billion. Is now the time to step and buy shares of Meta Platforms ? If concerns about the monetization of artificial intelligence investments and the wait for new revenue streams were keeping you on the sidelines, then two major updates from the company may have just given you the green light. The first came during Meta's annual shareholder meeting late Wednesday, when CEO Mark Zuckerberg was asked about the possibility of entering the public cloud space. His response? "It's definitely on the table." He added that "almost every week there are different companies that come to us from outside asking us to both stand up an API [application programming interface] service or asking if we have compute that they could buy from us at some premium to what we've bought it at." When Zuckerberg uses the industry term "compute," he's talking about all the data center infrastructure needed to train and run AI workloads. Meta cloud? Zuckerberg's cloud commentary is material, not only for how shareholders like the Investing Club think about possible future growth opportunities, but for sentiment as well. Think back to last month, when Meta reported a monster quarter and the stock tanked. Sure, Meta increased its full-year capital expenditure guidance to a greater-than-expected range of $125 billion to $145 billion, up from between $115 billion and $135 billion. The market, however, graded Meta's spending outlook hike more harshly than Amazon, Alphabet, and Microsoft even as their capex guides were even higher. Wall Street sees Meta at a greater risk of overbuilding and not optimizing its return on investment because it does not have a public cloud service to fall back on. Meta, unlike its megacap brethren, must sop up all the capacity it is building on its own. Any excess can't be easily rented out to be monetized. The Street is simply more apt to reward those spenders with the infrastructure in place to sell excess compute. It also means less pressure on the cloud companies to provide the ...

PM Images Investor home purchases fell 6% year-over-year during Q1, marking their lowest level since 2020, according to a new report by the Rocket Companies ( RKT ) unit Redfin. The decline has been attributed to elevated housing costs, which squeezed potential returns. Home sale prices are rising in most of the country, making it pricier for investors to buy properties and reducing the profitability of rental properties and flips, the report noted. Other reasons for the fall include a cooler housing market, gains losing steam, economic uncertainty, and the normalizing of investor activity after the pandemic homebuying frenzy. "Flippers and investors are scaling back, and being much more strategic when they do buy homes. They're buying less expensive materials, and being more careful about timing their projects to list during the stronger spring and summer seasons," said Tamara Mattox-Kabat, a Redfin Premier agent in Denver. "It's also noteworthy that large institutional investors are focusing more on building new homes than buying existing ones," said Mattox-Kabat. The housing affordability bill is focused partly on preventing institutional investors from buying single-family homes—but allowing them to build more homes. In Brief The U.S. Department of Defense has confirmed that adversaries have targeted and surveilled serving military personnel on the battlefield using commercial location data, the latest demonstration of how information collected from phones and computers can be abused to track and target individuals. In a letter shared by Sen. Ron Wyden with TechCrunch, U.S. Central Command said it was aware of hostile actors using purchased location data to track U.S. servicemembers. “USCENTCOM has received multiple threat reports concerning adversary exploitation of commercial location data to target or surveil US personnel in theater,” the letter reads. The letter did not provide examples or specifics, and a spokesperson for the Department of Defense did not return a request for comment. Reuters first reported the news on Thursday. Location data is often collected from phones and computers through online advertising, which then gets bought by data brokers, who then sell the data on the open market. Governments and militaries, including the United States, have purchased this data in the past without obtaining a warrant. In recent years, the FBI has warned consumers to use ad blockers as a way to minimize the amount of data that apps, websites, and other software can collect. Wyden told Reuters that it was time to “start treating the adtech industry as a national security threat.”
