Getty Images Survey Monday As the Swiss vote to limit population growth, should U.S. policymakers prioritize American workers by restricting H-1B visas and foreign workers? • Yes (relieve pressure on the housing market and protect American wages) • No (it will stifle innovation, damage GDP growth, and hurt portfolios) Click here to take the poll and don't forget to share your thoughts in the WSB comments section . Good morning! Here's the latest in trending: RTX Spark: Nvidia ( NVDA ) unveils a new superchip that reinvents PCs for the era of personal AI agents. Powell remarks: The Federal Reserve's credibility is at risk if presidents can fire officials . Closing the gates? In only two more weeks, Switzerland will hold a referendum that could completely reshape its economy. Citizens will decide on whether to cap the country's population at 10M due to concerns about overcrowding and rising anti-immigrant sentiment across Europe. It's a big deal, since Switzerland already has over 9.1M residents, meaning current immigration would need to be halved in the coming decades. For or against: The "No to ten million" immigration initiative was launched by the Swiss People's Party, though support currently appears to be split across the population. Backers of the measure say Switzerland has reached capacity, with strained infrastructure and housing, congested roads and trains, as well as the social security system. Those who oppose the measure argue that the country has absorbed immigration well, which has led to integration, growth and the nation's success. Many business executives are alarmed, as the initiative would also bar highly skilled workers from being employed in the country (not just asylum seekers or refugees). Case in point...

adibilio/iStock Editorial via Getty Images The Virgin Galactic Investment Thesis Virgin Galactic ( SPCE ) is still in a challenging position with regard to its debt and cash burn rate. Additionally, I do not consider the increase in the share price to be sustainable, as it is driven by speculation rather than a strengthening underlying business. For this reason, I still consider Virgin Galactic a 'sell'. What was my previous coverage like? In my article from November last year, I addressed the liquidity situation and the uncertain earnings situation. Especially the cash position, which was only sufficient for about a year at the time, was a major risk factor. But the Virgin Galactic shares have risen quite sharply in a short time, so I want to see if this is due to hype or better business metrics. Why have SPCE shares risen so rapidly in recent days? Seeking Alpha Virgin Galactic's shares increased by 81% last week. In my opinion, the SpaceX ( SPCX ) IPO is the main reason for this. On the one hand, the IPO naturally focuses attention on the space industry, and so other companies in the sector also benefit. But the biggest driver is that the ticker symbols are extremely similar. Virgin Galactic trades under the ticker symbol SPCE, and SpaceX will trade under the ticker symbol SPCX. So it is not unreasonable to assume that some users may have confused the companies. On Reddit ( RDDT ), there is a post from two months ago that has now received more than 1,000 comments, where someone wants to play the SpaceX IPO with Virgin Galactic shares. This person's goal is to get a 400-bagger, which has generated a lot of attention. But since the Gamestop ( GME ) days, we should all know that the WallStreetBets users definitely have the power to push up the price of shares. Of course, many were short-selling Virgin shares and a short squeeze could be possible, but in the long term I still see Virgin as an unattractive investment. So, I think the increase in the share price last w...

Colombia’s dollar bonds rallied Monday after right-wing outsider Abelardo de La Espriella unexpectedly won the first-round of voting for president and went into the runoff as clear favorite against leftist Ivan Cepeda . Bonds rose across the curve, with notes due in 2054 jumping 4 cents to almost 112 cents on the dollar, according to indicative pricing data compiled by Bloomberg. De la Espriella’s strong showing is cementing investors’ bets on a regime change, after four years under the leftist President Gustavo Petro. The celebrity lawyer got 43.7% of the vote, with nearly all the ballots counted, according to official results. That puts him in a good position to capture some of the votes of other right-wing candidates and prevail in a runoff. Cepeda, an ally of Petro, received 40.9% of the vote. “The combination of the security agenda and the attitude towards a pro-business reform program is something more palatable for markets than the current administration,” said Manuel Mondia , a portfolio manager at Aquila Asset Management. Senator Paloma Valencia , who was investors’ favorite candidate, came in third with less than 7% of the vote. She pledged her support to De la Espriella in a speech after the election. Money managers now expect the anti-establishment candidate to tone down his rhetoric in a bid to appeal to centrist voters, ahead of the June 21 runoff. Despite his controversial persona, investors mostly believe that De la Espriella will attempt to rein in the country’s swelling fiscal deficit and preserve the independence of the central bank, which was threatened during Petro’s administration. Concerns over the government’s high spending have weighed on market sentiment, triggering credit downgrades and spreads above similarly-rated countries. De la Espriella’s “victory would prevent further fiscal erosion and attacks on institutions such as the Central Bank that would have been expected under a Cepeda victory, given the influence of President Petro,” said...

Sergiño Dest scored the US’s opener on Sunday thanks a collection of little actions from his teammates The United States men’s national team has undergone considerable change from one window to the next throughout Mauricio Pochettino’s tenure. And it makes some sense; the Argentine had plenty of first-hand assessments to conduct, limiting the core group’s ability to iron out patterns of play and forge partnerships. Still, amid all that turnover, Antonee Robinson and Sergiño Dest were expected to remain the first-choice options at full-back (or wing-back, depending on the system) for the 2026 World Cup. Both had been essential in the 2022 cycle, after all, and continued to fare well when healthy for their club teams (Fulham for Robinson, and PSV for Dest). That “when healthy” caveat has worked overtime throughout Pochettino’s nineteen months in charge, though, with Dest suffering a torn ACL just before the 2024 Copa América and Robinson missing for much of last fall due to knee issues. The Basque made his Bournemouth superbly watchable, just what the Reds need after Arne Slot’s meek title defence Bravery. It is the recurring theme in conversations with those who have worked with Andoni Iraola at close quarters and the thing, they say, that sets him apart. It was evident in the manner his Bournemouth side illuminated the Premier League. Liverpool’s sporting director, Richard Hughes, has been here before. This time, though, rather than asking Iraola to replace Gary O’Neil and inherit a team that scrambled to safety, the challenge is to recondition one of the biggest clubs on the planet and help them rediscover the swagger that made them champions. ( ASTS ) has done nothing but fail to hit targets since going public, yet the stock just hit new highs prior to the devastating explosion at the Blue Origin launchpad. The stock has failed upwards due to an unrelenting belief by shareholders of a large TAM opportunity, not necessarily shared by partners. My investment thesis remains ultra Bearish on the stock, even after the $20 selloff to end last week. Source: Finviz Failures AST SpaceMobile invented direct-to-cell broadband to end dead zones and connect the unconnected, but the major developed countries don't have a lot of issues with wireless coverage anymore. The concept of building a space-based cellular broadband network sounds incredible, but the recent comments from T-Mobile ( TMUS ) on T-Mobile Satellite should rain on the parade. At the J.P. Morgan Global Technology conference , CEO Srinivasan Gopalan made the following statement about satellite service: We worked really closely with SpaceX Starlink. We have a great partnership. We've now extended some of that to broadband to build a new category, which is direct to cell. And we've had lots of experience of how that category is playing out. Long story short, it's clear that this is going to be a fundamentally complementary category. And just to give you an example, we looked at our data in May, and satellite usage is 0.0002% of our total network usage . That's 3 zeroes, right? So it's clearly a complementary use case. And we are seeing it largely focused on the national parks , that sort of territory. T-Mobile just formed a joint venture with AT&T ( T ) and Verizon ( VZ ) to focus spectrum on ending dead zones. The disappointing results for T-Satellite and the issues with AST SpaceMobile launching a satellite network probably contributed to this move to partner up. Ultimately, the apparent goal is for Starlink, owned by SpaceX ( SPCX ), to launch a D2D mobile service that can compete with the wireless c...
