Currently, there is little political appetite to treat the surge of Moscow’s crude flowing eastward through a “dark fleet” of tankers as a potential security issue. The US-Israeli war on Iran has caused the price of Brent crude – the benchmark measure – to spike to above US$100 since March, although talks with Washington have seen the price soften in recent days to...

Chinese prosthetics developer BrainCo expects sales of its robotic hands to surge this year as demand grows from the country’s fast-expanding humanoid robotics industry. Several dozen mainland robotics firms — including Unitree Robotics and Leju Robotics — are buying BrainCo’s dexterous, five-fingered hands that move and manipulate like real human hands, partner Hyx He said in an interview. Chinese humanoid developers are shifting their focus from demonstrating spectacle to finding real-world use for their machines, He said. BrainCo is among a wave of Chinese brain-computer interface — or BCI — startups seeking to challenge US leaders such as Neuralink Corp. in neurotechnology. The firm’s bionic hands business is “already seeing much bigger growth compared to last year,” He said. BrainCo originally developed prosthetic hands that allow people with limb loss or disabilities to use brain signals to control human-like fingers for tasks including playing piano and practicing calligraphy. The company also develops headsets that tackle neurological disorders ranging from autism and ADHD to insomnia through BCI. BCI technologies collect, decode and in some cases stimulate neural signals. Insights into how neural signals translate into physical actions can help developers build robotic hands that more closely replicate human dexterity and movement, researchers say . BrainCo is also developing BCI treatment aimed at replicating some of the appetite-suppressing effects that have made GLP-1 weight-loss drugs globally popular. He said it’s expected to hit the market in late 2027 or 2028. Humanoid robotics companies still face major challenges in turning their machines into viable substitutes for human labor, including developing hands capable of gripping, manipulating and threading objects with human-like precision. Those hurdles have fueled efforts to solve what Elon Musk has called “the hands problem” by developing more sophisticated, nimble five-finger mechanical devices to ...

RealPeopleGroup/E+ via Getty Images June 1st was a really great day for shareholders of Taylor Morrison Home Corporation ( TMHC ). Shares of the company skyrocketed 22.5% after news broke that the firm had agreed to sell itself to Warren Buffett's company, Berkshire Hathaway ( BRK.A ) ( BRK.B ). This is a big transaction that validates what I have been saying about the company for years now. For context, since I last wrote about it in May of this year, in an article in which I called it a ‘strong buy,’ the stock has risen 29.5%. That dwarfs the 2.2% increase that the S&P 500 saw over the same window of time. But that's not all. I have been consistently bullish about the company since January of 2022 . From that time through today, shares are up 141.3%. That's nearly double the 73% rise that the market experienced. My argument has really centered around two things. The first is that the stock is quite cheap, both on an absolute basis and compared to other similar firms. And the second is that while the short term picture for the housing market is certainly problematic and is likely to continue worsening throughout at least this year, the long term picture for housing is positive because of persistent home shortages. It seems as though the management team at Berkshire Hathaway understands this all too well. Then again, that shouldn't be a surprise considering the company's history of operating in the housing and building products markets. Overall, I view this as a win for the insurance and industrial conglomerate. As for shareholders of Taylor Morrison Home Corporation, the picture is a little bittersweet. For where the market is at the moment, I actually view this as a fine deal for them. The surge in price that they are getting because of the transaction is certainly a win in and of itself. Having said that, if we assume that the market will eventually recover to what it was in the past, then this transaction will have looked quite cheap. So in that respect, it is e...
