European fintech firm Twinco Capital has raised a total of €165 million ($190 million) in a series B equity round and a securitization fund. The €15 million series B round was led by Dutch entrepreneurial development bank FMO and also involved Bankinter SA plus existing shareholders Quona Capital and Working Capital Fund, Twinco said in a statement Tuesday. The €150 million securitization fund was led by Banco Santander SA and will be dedicated to purchase order finance. Twinco says it finances suppliers early in the production cycle, before traditional invoice finance or supply-chain finance becomes available. “Global supply chains depend on suppliers having access to liquidity long before goods are delivered and invoices are issued,” Twinco co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Sandra Nolasco said in the statement. Twinco offers a “technology and risk platform capable of financing and managing performance risk from the moment purchase order is issued,” she said. The series B round will support Twinco’s international expansion and investment, including in artificial intelligence, added co-founder and Chief Operating Officer Carmen Marin.

primeimages/E+ via Getty Images Bloom Energy ( BE ), a supplier to Oracle ( ORCL ) that’s seen its stock price double in the past two months, doesn’t see a need to sell shares to meet surging demand from data centers, its chief executive officer told Bloomberg. The company makes fuel cells that generate electricity from natural gas through a chemical reaction, rather than burning the fuel. Bloom can recover the cost of building a new factory in six months through sales, making it unnecessary to raise capital, KR Sridhar said in an interview on Monday. “If there is a need, obviously, we will go and raise money, but there is no reason to just go raise money for us right now,” Sridhar said. San Jose, California-based Bloom estimates it needs to spend about $100M to $150M for production of one gigawatt of fuel cells, which is equivalent to a traditional nuclear reactor. Bloom recently struck a deal with Oracle to supply as much as 2.8 gigawatts of fuel-cell power for the software company’s data centers. Sridhar said his firm’s modular power units can be used to scale up a data center more quickly with fewer emissions compared to gas turbines, as per the report. The company’s shares have risen by more than 200% since the start of the year on the back of investor enthusiasm over potential demand for its technology to power data centers. A long-awaited change in U.S. federal marijuana law occurred in late April, when the Drug Enforcement Administation rescheduled marijuana from its high-risk Schedule I to a Schedule III designation, which is for drugs with accepted medical use and low potential for dependence. The move was initially seen as a historic change for the drug and the industry that's grown up around it. However, the impact thus far has been relatively muted. Nevertheless, the reform will make a difference to certain cannabis companies . Let's look at how it might -- or, more appropriately, might not -- affect one of Canada's top marijuana companies, Canopy Growth (NASDAQ: CGC) . Image source: Getty Images. Continue reading
