Feverpitched/iStock via Getty Images I continue to believe that investors en masse are spending too much time on certain current market issues and not enough on others. Allow me to explain. If you are growth at all costs, there's nothing new to this market. You're buying the dips; you are looking for what are essentially leveraged bets on the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100. After all, why settle for being up 11% ( SPY ) five months into this year or 20% ( QQQ ) when you can own the semiconductor industry ETF ( SOXX ), up 89%?! That's all in hindsight. And my point is that this stock market is certainly proving to be exciting for some. For those who have some concern about hedging the possibility that this all goes horribly wrong at some point, the usual responses are: Raise cash Buy put options Use alternatives such as gold and maybe bonds or anti-US dollar assets I have written about my use of all of these. But I think there's one investors are missing. Even though it is hiding in plain sight. I'll discuss this in a moment. First, some perspective to help you understand how I arrive at my opinions here. After all, nothing I publish is "you do this." It is "This is what I do; learn from it if it helps you, and if not, thanks for reading." A very quick overview of my total portfolio research Personally, I oversee seven "model portfolios" with widely ranging risk levels. As such, their YTD returns are anywhere between 5% and 18%. But the main one, ROAR 10 ETF, which I've discussed here, is up 8.6% YTD through May 29, comfortably ahead of its moderate allocation ETF ( AOM ) benchmark. PiTrade.com What's my point in discussing all of this in an article that is about to switch gears into a focus on hedging bond ladder portfolios? Because what I see many DIY investors hyper-focused on is "how much can I make right now." Money is chasing performance. That usually works well for a short while, then crashes to Earth like a failed satellite launch. Or a market too liquid for too long...

Several ongoing developments suggest that the company boasts attractive opportunities that could allow it to crush broader equities over the next five years. Read on to find out more. Image source: The Motley Fool. Amazon has already been a winner in the artificial intelligence (AI) boom, thanks to the many AI-powered services it offers through its cloud division, Amazon Web Services (AWS). But the industry seems to be increasingly shifting toward agentic AI, or systems that go beyond the question-response model of chatbots and can act autonomously toward a goal. Amazon could also capitalize on agentic AI in several ways. As the leading cloud computing company , Amazon can provide the infrastructure necessary to host and operate AI agents. But Amazon also designs chips specifically for AI workloads. Continue reading

From India and Africa to Europe, countries not yet in the AI supply chain risk mass job losses, losing the tax revenue needed to deal with the tech’s fallout The San Francisco Bay Area is in the midst of an AI frenzy that makes the California gold rush of the mid-19th century look like a scavenger hunt. Top programmers and developers are being offered compensation packages worth hundreds of millions of dollars to switch firms, while young engineers lucky enough to have joined leading AI startups early are contemplating retirement before age 35. Driving up the Bayshore Freeway from San Francisco International airport into the city, you pass hyper-specific billboards advertising obscure AI applications seemingly aimed at absurdly niche audiences. How can that possibly be profitable? The answer is that in a city crawling with startups, getting the right software product in front of a founder whose company could soon be worth billions of dollars is far more lucrative than using billboard space to sell burgers or laundry detergent. The pizza chain sector was jolted late last week when Bloomberg reported that Yum! Brands ( YUM ) is in exclusive talks with LongRange Capital to sell the Pizza Hut chain. Wedbush Securities believes the exclusivity announcement is a meaningful positive catalyst for Yum! Brands ( YUM ) because divesting Pizza Hut eliminates the most significant drag on consolidated same-store sales and margin, which would allow the market to re-rate on KFC and Taco Bell's cleaner growth profiles. However, analyst Michael Piccolo said the critical unknown is deal valuation. "With ~$1B in revenue, persistent SSS declines, and an ongoing store closure program, we would expect a modest franchise-adjusted EBITDA multiple (likely mid-single digits) that is unlikely to bematerially accretive on proceeds alone, but the narrative benefit to YUM's multiple should outweighany near-term earnings dilution," he noted. Piccolo highlighted that the Pizza Hut sale could be a negative for Papa John's International ( PZZA ), which will now face a more competitive buyer pool, as well as Domino's Pizza ( DPZ ) and Restaurant Brands International ( QSR ), because a PE-backed Pizza Hut enters a potential operational restructuring with lower cost structure ambitions. Pizza Hut's roots date back to 1958 in Wichita, Kansas, when brothers Dan and Frank Carney borrowed $600 from their mother to open their first store. By 1971, Pizza Hut had become the world’s largest pizza chain by number of outlets and total sales. The company made its debut on the New York Stock Exchange in 1972 and started international operations later in the decade. PepsiCo ( PEP ) acquired Pizza Hut in November 1977 and held it for twenty years before spinning it off along with Taco Bell and KFC into a new company called Tricon Global Restaurants, which was later renamed Yum! Brands ( YUM ). Pizza Hut’s peak period was during the late 1980s. By 1990, the chain’s systemwide sales reached $4B, and key innovations included the hugely succes...
