The US military’s Central Command (Centcom) said its aircraft disabled the engine room of the unladen Botswana-flagged M/T Lexie on Tuesday as it passed through international waters toward Kharg Island, north of the strait near Kuwait, after the crew ignoring repeated warnings over a 24-hour period. A voter drops their ballot at an official ballot drop box inside City Hall during a primary election in San Francisco, California, US, on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. David Paul Morris | Bloomberg | Getty Images California votes on Tuesday in a primary election that will choose two finalists for governor and Los Angeles mayor while also testing newly redrawn congressional lines that could tip the balance of power in the U.S. House of Representatives. The marquee contest is the open race for governor, with Governor Gavin Newsom termed out and widely seen as pursuing a run for the White House in 2028. A field of 61 candidates is competing under the state's "jungle primary," in which the two highest vote-getters advance regardless of party. The latest polls show Democrat and former Biden cabinet secretary Xavier Becerra leading, with Democratic billionaire Tom Steyer and Republican television personality Steve Hilton also challenging for the right to move on to the November 3 general election. Tuesday's results will determine whether Democrats can avoid internal fragmentation and whether a Republican can capitalize on a divided electorate. Moreover, the primary marks the first test of a new congressional map that could turn the midterm contest into a pivotal battle with control of Congress at stake. After Trump urged Texas last year to draw new district maps designed to pick up five Republican seats, Newsom counterpunched by shepherding through a voter initiative aimed at swinging five California seats into the Democratic column. Under California's formerly independent redistricting, Democrats already held a 43-9 advantage within the state's congressional delegation. Even in such a Democratic state, early polls in the gubernatorial race suggested two Republicans might finish on top, as Hilton and Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco led. But now the Democrats could be poised to land both spots, if the polls are correct in placing Becerra and Steyer near the top. Since adopti...

In this article PANW Follow your favorite stocks CREATE FREE ACCOUNT watch now VIDEO 2:05 02:05 Palo Alto Networks CEO: Fighting AI with AI is the only cybersecurity solution Mad Money with Jim Cramer Palo Alto Networks CEO Nikesh Arora said artificial intelligence is making cybersecurity more important as increasingly sophisticated AI-powered attacks force companies to strengthen their defenses . "I think we declared the 'SaaSpocalypse' dead for cybersecurity officially," Arora said on CNBC's " Mad Money " on Tuesday, referencing investor concerns earlier this year that software-as-a-service, or SaaS, companies would be disrupted by AI models. Palo Alto reported stronger-than-expected quarterly results and raised its full-year outlook Tuesday. Revenue grew 31% from a year ago to $3 billion, with adjusted earnings per share coming in at 85 cents. The results marked another sign that fears of AI disrupting cybersecurity companies may have been overblown . In recent weeks, shares of Palo Alto and its peers have surged and erased their sell-offs from earlier this year. The heightened threat environment has fueled a surge in customer demand, according to Arora. He said Palo Alto has fielded roughly 1,200 customer inquiries in recent weeks from organizations seeking guidance on how to prepare for rapidly evolving AI risks. The company has already met with about 800 of those customers and has 400 left to go. "Just to give you a sense, we did 1,200 meetings all of last year. We've done 800 in the last 12 weeks," he said. "So we're busy." Arora said customers "don't want to solve just the problem today." Instead, they are increasingly asking how to prepare for the next generation of AI-powered threats. Rather than becoming a casualty of the AI boom, Arora said Palo Alto is benefiting from the growing need for cybersecurity solutions. "We are a net enabler of better cybersecurity," he said. "We're not a victim of AI." Cramer's Charitable Trust, the portfolio used by the CNBC...

State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (NYSEMKT:XLF) and Vanguard Financials ETF (NYSEMKT:VFH) provide heavy exposure to U.S. banks and insurance companies, though they differ significantly in portfolio concentration and market capitalization. Financial stocks often serve as a bellwether for the broader economy, as their health is tied to interest rates, lending activity, and capital market strength. Both the Vanguard fund and the State Street fund provide efficient ways to gain exposure to this sector, but they differ in how deep they dive into the market. While one offers a blue chip focus, the other casts a wider net across the industry. Beta measures price volatility relative to the S&P 500; beta is calculated from five-year monthly returns. SlavkoSereda/iStock via Getty Images Global oil inventories could hit critically low levels ahead of the peak July-August fuel demand period if drawdowns continue at their current pace, the International Energy Agency said Tuesday. Global oil stocks fell by more than 250M barrels between March and May, with on-land commercial and strategic stockpiles draining at a record pace, the IEA reported. "We're seeing stock draws continuing into the summer, and with the possibility or the likelihood that we reach critical levels or historical low levels just ahead of the peak summer demand," said Toril Bosoni, the head of the IEA's oil industry and markets division. A full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz could take 6-8 months in the best-case scenario if an agreement was reached today, Bosoni said at the S&P Global Energy Middle East Petroleum and Gas Conference in London. An additional IEA-coordinated emergency stock release could become a possibility, but it is not currently being discussed as around half of the initial 400M-barrel coordinated release from March has not yet reached the market, Bosoni added. The IEA is seeing higher prices and a weaker economic outlook turning into lower demand for transport fuels, Bosoni said, adding, "The biggest adjustment factors we have seen to the markets have come from the demand side." Persian Gulf oil producers have lost ~14M bbl/day of supply since the end of February, the IEA estimated. Crude oil futures moved higher Tuesday, adding to the previous day’s gains, with the market still cautiously awaiting progress in U.S.-Iran talks and signs that the Strait of Hormuz could be reopened in the near term. The supply situation is manageable for now, but higher summer demand in July and August likely would lead to rationing, Baron Lamarre, former head of trading at Petronas, told Dow Jones. "The cry is that they want a deal right now because if they don't have it three months from now, there will be a disaster," Lamarre said. Fro...

Palo Alto Networks reported a strong beat-and-raise quarter Tuesday night, putting to rest any lingering doubt that it will be disrupted by artificial intelligence. The stock was volatile in after-hours trading, but considering its blistering rally into earnings, it's not surprising to see this kind of reaction. Revenue for the company's fiscal 2026 third quarter increased 31% year over year to $3 billion, exceeding the Wall Street consensus estimate of $2.94 billion, according to LSEG. Adjusted earnings per share (EPS) increased 6% to 85 cents in the quarter, ahead of the 80-cent LSEG consensus estimate. Shares were roughly flat but volatile in after-hours trading. Pal Alto is up about 61% for the year and up 85% since the end of March. Why we own it Cybersecurity is a secular growth market as bad actors are relentless and companies simply cannot afford to not invest in defense. It is a never-ending arms race, made only more important by the proliferation of artificial intelligence. Palo Alto Networks has best-in-class tools and a broad product portfolio that allows it to provide an all-encompassing "platform" solution to cybersecurity. Competitors : CrowdStrike (also a Club stock), Fortinet , Cisco Systems Last buy : Nov. 24, 2025 Initiation : Feb. 15, 2023 Bottom line We battled this one out earlier this year when the stock was hammered over fears that large language models made by the likes of Anthropic were going to provide cybersecurity solutions to everyone and replace established security vendors like Palo Alto Networks. It's a thesis we never bought into, but we do admit it did test our patience. How did sentiment change so quickly? The company's opportunistic share repurchases, including a $1 billion increase to its buyback authorization in February, didn't help the stock. It got a brief pop after the disclosure that CEO Nikesh Arora bought $10 million worth of shares in late March, when the stock was trading in the $140s. But it wasn't off to the races ye...
