Databricks , a data software company, plans to sell shares to the public at some point, but won’t tap the public markets this year amid a flurry of planned tech IPOs. The company wants to sell shares to the public in order to “create a market transaction mechanism for our employees,” Chief Executive Officer Ali Ghodsi said Thursday during an interview on Bloomberg Television. “We will be a public company. I just think this is a terrible year to go public.” Databricks, which competes with public firms such as Oracle Corp. and Snowflake Inc., has raised money in a variety of ways. The company in January lined up $1.8 billion in financing from loan investors and private credit lenders. In December, it raised over $4 billion in a funding round that valued the software firm at $134 billion. Ghodsi was referring to planned IPOs from SpaceX, which is scheduled next week to sell 555.6 million shares at $135 each in what will be the biggest public offering ever, and AI companies Anthropic PBC and OpenAI , which are planning to sell shares to the public later this year.

Every weekday, the CNBC Investing Club with Jim Cramer holds a "Morning Meeting" livestream at 10:20 a.m. ET. Here's a recap of Thursday's key moments. 1. Stocks were mixed Thursday as investors rotated out of AI hardware names and into healthcare, financials, and other lagging sectors. Jim thinks the recent weakness in technology stocks reflects a broader rotation rather than a deterioration in fundamentals. Healthcare stocks led the gains, with Club holdings Eli Lilly and Johnson & Johnson rising roughly 5.5% and 2%, respectively. While investors took profits in some of the market's biggest AI winners, Jim believes the shift is temporary and expects money to eventually flow back into the AI-driven stocks that have led the market for much of the year. 2. Goldman Sachs shares climbed more than 4% to an all-time high as a beneficiary of Thursday's move into financials. Jim called Goldman the "premier financial" in the current environment, citing its leadership role in the wave of upcoming IPOs. The stock has become one of the Club's largest positions after a powerful run, and Jim acknowledged it may make sense to trim shares and lock in some gains. At the same time, Jim struck a more cautious tone on fellow Club name Wells Fargo , which was up Thursday but down for the year. He said the bank has yet to capitalize on many of the opportunities driving the rest of the sector, and that he would be open to trimming the longtime position to protect gains. 3. CrowdStrike fell roughly 7% despite delivering a beat-and-raise quarter the prior evening. Jim believes investors are overlooking the impact that rising demand for cybersecurity could have next quarter. "This [upcoming] quarter is going to be gigantic," Jim said, arguing that many of the new deals CrowdStrike has signed as companies respond to emerging AI-related security threats came too late in the quarter to show up in the results that were just reported. He expects those contracts to begin flowing through in future...

Somerset House, London Escher’s paradoxical geometries and impossible gravities may baffle the mind – yet even his wildest works were never just fanciful, as this fun and gripping show makes clear We think we know the world of Maurits Cornelis Escher with its mind-bending staircases and buildings that impossibly twist upon themselves. Yet a shocking glimpse of reality intrudes in Somerset House’s gripping journey through his metaverse. In 1945, Escher designed a diploma for students at a temporary academy in Eindhoven, recently liberated from Nazi rule. Behind a wise old owl in the foreground, twisting columns of black smoke rise from a riverside town, their evil sinuousness reflected in the water. The message of this depiction of war is not only that Escher was a civilised individual surviving a brutal age but also that his visual delights were never just fanciful. Even his wildest speculations reveal the workings of the world itself, grounded as they are in what Galileo called “the language of mathematics” in which “the book of nature is written”. You don’t have to be fluent in that language to lose yourself in Escher’s art. You just need to look, and this exhibition lets you look so much more closely and deeply than you can in books and reproductions and imitations of his work. At times you feel you are actually inside his paradoxical places. I chuckled for ages in front of his 1958 lithograph Belvedere in which a king and queen survey a mountainous landscape in different directions from two storeys of a Renaissance building, but wait, they don’t just face different ways, their separate floors are totally at odds, the king’s pointing sideways while the queen faces out of the picture in a 90-degree shift: the columns on the front of the king’s balustrade support the back of the queen’s floor and the whole building turns in two different dimensions inhabiting two truths at once. No wonder the builders are dressed as jesters while an architect sits studying geometry...

The revamped version of Siri, which Apple ( AAPL ) is set to debut perhaps as soon as next week, could run partially on Nvidia ( NVDA ) Blackwell B200 GPUs provided by Google ( GOOG ) ( GOOGL ), The Information reported. The new voice assistant will use Nvidia's confidential compute feature, which allows for data to keep encrypted as it's being processed, the news outlet added . It's unclear at this point how, if at all, it will use Apple's Private Cloud Compute, which was introduced in 2024, as part of Apple's artificial intelligence push. Private Cloud Compute allows Apple Intelligence to use large server-based models to handle more complex requests, while smaller requests can be handled on the device itself. “If it needs greater computational capacity, it can draw on Private Cloud Compute, which will send only the data that is relevant to the task to be processed on Apple Silicon servers,” Apple said at the time of the unveiling. “When requests are routed to Private Cloud Compute, data is not stored or made accessible to Apple, and is only used to fulfill the user’s requests.” The push to use Nvidia's chips comes as part of Apple's previous deal with Google, which was announced in January. Apple is using Google Gemini to help run the next version of Siri, and as such, some user queries from Siri will run on Google Cloud. Apple, Nvidia, and Google did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Seeking Alpha.
