kodda/iStock via Getty Images Plains All American Pipeline ( PAA ) ( PAGP ) wobbles between small gains and losses in Thursday's trading as Goldman Sachs upgrades to Neutral from Sell with a $24 price target, raised from $18, reflecting a stronger crude macro environment and an improving albeit still modest growth outlook for the company. Goldman analyst John Mackay also points to Plains' ( PAA ) ( PAGP ) solid free cash flow generation and potential as an M&A candidate as the industry continues to consolidate. Plains ( PAA ) ( PAGP ) now has a more focused strategic outlook following the recently closed sale of its Canadian natural gas liquids assets, and with new estimates reflecting the Canada sale and Q1 earnings, Mackay sees a ~3% EBITDA compound annual growth rate for 2026-30, alongside ~3x leverage and a ~10% FCF yield over the period. Mackay still expects Plains ( PAA ) ( PAGP ) to lag some peers that have higher EBITDA growth and/or higher shareholder return potential, which prevents consideration of a more constructive stance, but downside risks to the stock have moderated. P_Wei/iStock Unreleased via Getty Images BlackRock, Inc. ( BLK ) built a sort of multi-engine setup that keeps delivering steady growth, even as the stock has de-rated to about 18.7x forward earnings while operating results have continued to improve. Since I last said “ Buy ,” the stock has dropped 14.4%. The pullback happened even though the company just put up another strong quarter, with the business posting stronger year-over-year revenue, adjusted operating income, and adjusted EPS. The pullback has also come alongside negative private-credit valuation headlines and regulatory-risk discussion, even as the underlying numbers are improving. I’m still bullish and sticking with my Buy call. BLK What’s driving the disconnect right now is that people may not be giving enough weight to BlackRock’s operating leverage, its 44.5% adjusted operating margin, and the way its business mix has shifted toward higher-fee areas. In Q1 2026 , net inflows were $129.7 billion. That capped off a huge year, $743.8 billion in net new assets over the last twelve months, with quarterly inflows cooling from Q4 2025’s $342 billion, even though the last twelve-month total was higher than the $698 billion full-year 2025 pace. The most important thing here: new money is showing up in the higher-fee areas. Alternatives saw $14.6 billion in net inflows for the quarter and $56.3 billion over the past twelve months. Just private markets brought in about $9.1 billion in net new assets in Q1. That’s a sign that BlackRock’s mix of options for big institutional clients is working; more people are choosing the custom, higher-value stuff. At the end of the quarter, assets under management were at $13.9 trillion; that’s down a bit from the previous quarter. You can see the shift in what’s driving revenue, too: Q1 2026 base fees came in at $5.4 billion, up 24% from a year earlier. Alternatives now make up 16% of base fees, with alternatives base-fee and securities-lending revenue up about 25% year over ...

In approximately one week, the people who want to bet on SpaceX will be able to do so to their hearts’ content: SpaceX will be publicly traded, albeit with a fairly low float, and you’ll be able to buy as much as you want at some price. People who want to bet against SpaceX will also get more or less what they want at more or less the same time: Once SpaceX is public, you will be able to borrow shares and sell them short . On the other hand: A week is a long time, there will be a lot of SpaceX news in the next week, and a lot of people want to get their bets in now . Even in a week, not everyone who wants to bet on, or especially against , SpaceX will get exactly what they want. The supply of shares to borrow (for short selling) might be tight and expensive. Many current shareholders — employees, venture investors, special purpose vehicles — have lockup agreements that prevent them from selling their stock, or selling short to hedge, for months after the IPO. See page 269 of the SpaceX prospectus : “Shareholders … may not … engage in any hedging or other transaction or arrangement (including, without limitation, any short sale or the purchase or sale of, or entry into, any put or call option, or combination thereof, forward, swap or any other derivative transaction or instrument, however described or defined) which is designed to or which reasonably could be expected to lead to or result in a sale, loan, pledge, or other disposition (whether by such lock-up party or someone other than such lock-up party), or transfer of any of the economic consequences of ownership, in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, of any lock-up securities, whether any such transaction or arrangement (or instrument provided for thereunder) would be settled by delivery of our common stock or such other securities, in cash or otherwise.” A more freewheeling, g...

Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) speaks during the CNBC CEO Council Summit in Washington D.C. on June 2, 2026. Aaron Clamage | CNBC Louisiana Republican Sen. Bill Cassidy signed onto an amicus brief calling President Donald Trump 's " weaponization " fund a "dire threat" to Congress and the constitutional order. The amicus brief from Cassidy and Sen. Cory Booker , D-N.J., was filed Wednesday in a case challenging the fund that's working its way through court in Virginia. Cassidy last month lost out of a runoff in Louisiana amid a Trump-backed primary challenge , and Congress is weighing amendments to a budget reconciliation bill that could ax the "lawfare" fund entirely. Cassidy's inclusion on the brief is a window into the broad opposition to the fund from Senate Republicans, who rarely buck Trump due to potential political consequences. It also underscores how Cassidy, who has no more elections to run, could complicate future votes in the Senate. The brief argues that the court, which halted the fund temporarily in May , should uphold its block. The senators argued that the fund represents the "immediate and dire threat to our constitutional order and the authority of Congress." "The existence of the Fund strikes at the core of Congressional authority and our Constitutional order," the senators said. Read more CNBC politics coverage Michael Dell courted Trump early. While the broader economic backdrop remained relatively resilient, investor sentiment was challenged by the escalation of geopolitical tensions, most notably the Iran conflict, which introduced near-term inflationary risks and tempered growth expectations. Despite these pressures, underlying economic fundamentals remained stable, with U.S. GDP growth trending in the 2.0%–2.5% range and supported by a resilient consumer, solid earnings outlook, and improving productivity trends. Inflation expectations moved modestly higher during the quarter, though underlying pressures from wages and housing remained contained. The U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed) maintained a cautious “hold steady” stance, with market expectations shifting toward a prolonged pause in rate cuts. While consensus pricing implied no cuts in 2026, expectations remained centered around one to two potential cuts given signs of moderating growth and a gradually weakening labor market. Against this backdrop, the municipal market delivered a negative total return, with the Bloomberg Municipal Bond Index declining 0.18% for the quarter. Performance was largely driven b...

After closing underperforming stores and focusing its attention on high-margin luxury merchandise, Macy’s ( M ) enjoyed its best quarter in four years and its fourth consecutive quarter of comparable sales gains. The results lifted shares to their highest level since January and gave a boost to peers Dillard’s ( DDS ) and Kohl’s ( KSS ) in Thursday’s trading. “Performance was positive across all nameplates,” said BTIG’s Robert Drbul. “We are encouraged by Macy’s progress under the ‘Bold New Chapter’ strategy, which was especially evident in Q1 results. The underlying drivers of margin expansion remain intact, supported by stronger regular price sell-through and improved inventory composition with less aged product.” Seeking Alpha analyst Louis Gerard also sees the Bold New Chapter strategy behind the company’s recent outperformance while reinvestment in remaining stores is “validating the turnaround thesis.” “Luxury also seems to be compounding as both Bloomingdale’s and Bluemercury are the structural growth engines and are taking share amid disruptions at Saks,” Gerard adds. Guidance incorporated any potential impact on discretionary spending from macroeconomic and geopolitical factors and a larger tariff impact on the first half of the year than on the second. This encouraged management to “take a prudent approach to guidance, giving flexibility within its business model to respond to changes in the competitive landscape and external environment.” “We believe management’s guidance was appropriately conservative,” said Citi Research analyst Paul Lejuez. “Management believes they are early in their private label evolution… and now believe they have the right brands in their portfolio but from here will evolve the assortment to best complement their national brand.” Lejuez adds. After trading defensively for the first half of 2026, shares have been gaining ground, buoyed by a recent investment (and vote of confidence?) from Berkshire Hathaway ( BRK-A ) ( BRK-B ). Bes...

Andi Edwards/iStock via Getty Images Broadcom Inc. ( AVGO ) just caused a major slash in the world of chips after reporting its Q2 '26 earnings results on Wednesday after the bell. The results were a disappointment, even as Broadcom bulls; there is no other way to put it. The problem is that everyone knew the good news heading into print, and worse is that there was little expectation of red flags, but we got some. This is a cocktail for a reset to stock and expectations, and that’s what we’re seeing Thursday morning. YahooFinance The Three-Strike Disappointment For the quarter, Broadcom reported sales of $22.19B, in line with the base expectation of $22.12B but missing LSEG expectations of $22.27B. Outlook did not move the needle meaningfully despite management guiding for sales to grow 32.5% sequentially to $29.4B, beating expectations for $28.5B but not enough to impress. The top-line print and guide against expectations were strike number one for the Q2 print. That’s what first began to pull the stock back by roughly 4%. This is the result of a run-up in expectations; into print, Broadcom saw 42 upward EPS revisions versus only 1 downward. Expectations caught up as did the stock price run with Broadcom shares gaining about 63% since late March and 13% in the past five days alone. Things got worse on the earnings call , and that’s where strikes two and three come out. The second strike was the lack of any upward revisions to AI-related revenue for 2027 beyond the stated 10 GW and +$100B figure for its six core AI custom ASIC businesses. Analysts pushed for a higher guide during the Q&A but got none outside of commentary about strength extending into 2028. This doesn’t fare well against Marvell ( MRVL ), which reported last Tuesday and raised its FY27 data center sales guide from 40% Y/Y growth to 50% and its FY28 guide from 50% to 55%, marking the fourth time we’ve seen Marvell raise guidance. And, guess what? Last week, even that did not impress investors, with ...
