hapabapa/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Introduction It’s time to talk about the market again. But this won’t be your “average” market article where we talk about sentiment, technicals, and stuff like that. It’s not like I have written much on that in the past, but still. Especially in an age of AI, where you can just let some robot look into a stock for you (I highly advise against that, by the way!), we need to spend our time wisely, which means unpacking Big Picture developments that can provide us with the opportunity to generate long-term alpha, reposition our portfolios more favorably, and even turn some risks into tailwinds. That’s exactly what this article is about, as we need to discuss a few very important topics, including the market’s top-heavy nature, new economic developments, and what these mean for investors. Oh, right. And I get to brag a bit. But first, let’s dive into the top-heavy nature of the market. The Market is Top-Heavy What else is new? This isn’t a surprising subheader, as I have given a lot of attention to this development for more than a year. I think it’s fair to say that this isn’t a “normal” market by any means. Going into this month, the ten biggest S&P 500 ( SP500 ) stocks accounted for 40% of its weighting. JPMorgan That’s not necessarily a problem, as these are the very stocks that are causing the market to reach new highs. As the equal-weight S&P 500 ( RSP ) versus market-weight S&P 500 ( SPY ) ratio below shows, since 2015, the increasingly top-heavy nature of the market has been a good thing for S&P 500 investors (and anyone who owns Big Tech, of course). TradingView (RSP/SPY Total Return Ratio) And then there’s the valuation. At slightly more than 21x forward earnings (see below), the market is far from cheap, which adds to risks and “bubble talk.” If I wanted to write a bearish article for clicks only, I would probably tell you how dangerous it is that this market is carried by just a few stocks that have created a very u...

zimmytws/iStock via Getty Images On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, the Bureau of Labor Statistics will issue a news release on the Consumer Price Index for May. Together with the non-farm payroll report, the Federal Reserve will decide whether to hold or cut interest rates. At the next FOMC meeting later this month, newly appointed Fed Chair Kevin Warsh will announce that decision. Stock markets are largely dismissive of expectations of a red-hot inflation report. When I posted a preview last month on WTI crude ( CL1:COM ) prices lifting CPI, rating the S&P 500 ( IVV ) ( VOO ) ( SPY ) worked out. The index gained 2.51% to close near its all-time high. What might the May CPI report reveal? Stock market trading activity will not likely react to the data. The Dow Jones ( DJI ) and Nasdaq ( QQQ ) are enthusiastic about the upcoming SpaceX’s ( SPCX ) initial public offering. That will raise around $75 billion , valuing the firm at around $1.8 trillion. Three Months of Temporary Energy Inflation Since the Iran conflict started in February, the Strait of Hormuz has remained closed. In the last Fed meeting, then Fed Chair Jerome Powell characterized energy inflation along the lines of temporary/transitory. In the first half of May, WTI crude traded in the range of $95 per barrel to over $105. For energy investors, May 14 played out as the peak for oil prices. WTI crude (OilPrice.com) Oil prices fell sharply toward the end of last month to around $88/bbl. Ongoing hopes that the U.S. would agree to a peace framework with Iran suggest that crude prices will continue to trend at $90/bbl or lower. Even if the conflict between Israel and Lebanon persists and the U.S. and Iran exchange attacks, oil prices are losing momentum. In April, the index for energy increased by 3.8%. That accounted for over 40% of the all-items increase. That is down from 10.9% in March. In the last 12 months, the index for energy increased by 17.9%. CPI percent changes (BLS) The table above shows that the inde...

Getty Images Palvella Therapeutics, Inc. ( PVLA ) is a rare-disease dermatology company built around its proprietary QTORIN platform. QTORIN helps reformulate known active molecules for topical treatments of underserved skin and vascular malformation disorders. Their main drug candidate right now is QTORIN rapamycin for microcystic lymphatic malformations (mLM), which has already reported positive Phase 3 data. PVLA subsequently held a pre-NDA meeting with the FDA, and management believes they may be able to move it forward without an additional efficacy study. That’s why they’ve reaffirmed their 2H2026 NDA timeline. A QTORIN-Led Rare-Disease Story Palvella Therapeutics, Inc. is still a clinical-stage biopharma working on treatments for rare skin diseases and vascular malformations. PVLA was founded back in 2015, and then it went public after merging with Pieris Pharmaceuticals in 2024. They’re currently based in Wayne, Pennsylvania. I believe their main value driver today is easily QTORIN rapamycin for mLM, and it’s also being researched for cutaneous venous malformations (cVM) and angiokeratomas. I also previously covered PVLA in September 2025, and since then, the stock has appreciated by approximately 96.0%. So, I thought it was worthwhile revisiting this name and updating my thesis. Source: Seeking Alpha. As a quick recap, PVLA’s proprietary platform is QTORIN , which is specifically designed for topical applications for rare and chronic diseases. However, what’s interesting about their approach is that it’s potentially safer and more convenient compared to other treatments that often have side effects throughout the rest of the human body. Management believes their main edge is their expertise with formulation and delivery, not just the drug itself. Concretely, QTORIN potentially allows for high drug concentrations, while also providing reasonably good safety and tolerability standards. On top of that, QTORIN can reach specific skin layers where the disease oc...

John Hansard Gallery, Southampton Farewell Sweet Innocence references cinema, football, music and Windrush – it’s about trying to fit in, but always falling short, even as a Turner-nominated artist There’s that old Marxist (Groucho, not Karl) saying about refusing to join any club that would have you as a member. Simeon Barclay takes that idea one step further in his work, because he knows that even if the club would have him, he’d never be truly accepted anyway. He calls his show in Southampton “a lament of sorts, to access and loss”. It comes just a few weeks after he got nominated for the Turner prize, and it’s a damn fine argument for why he should probably win it. This is an exhibition all about exclusion, about trying to fit in but never quite managing. It’s razor-sharp, funny, pop-cultural, obtuse conceptual art about growing up black in Britain, about trying to make it and knowing you’re bound to fail, because the system is geared towards failure. Both the Vanguard Small-Cap ETF (NYSEMKT:VB) and the iShares Core S&P Small-Cap ETF (NYSEMKT:IJR) are heavyweights in this space, yet they use different indexing strategies to define smallness and select their constituents for long-term exposure. VB offers a lower expense ratio and broader diversification, while IJR provides more concentrated exposure to higher-quality small caps. Beta measures price volatility relative to the S&P 500; beta is calculated from five-year monthly returns. The 1-yr return represents total return over the trailing 12 months. Dividend yield is the trailing-12-month distribution yield. VB is the more affordable option with an expense ratio of 0.03%, which is half the cost of IJR. The Vanguard fund also provides a slightly higher trailing-12-month dividend yield of 1.2% compared to 1.16% for its iShares counterpart. Continue reading

tiero AirTrunk —which is backed by Blackstone ( BX ) and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board — plans to invest more than INR 3.00T (US$32B) in India by 2030 to support digital infrastructure capacity, the company said Friday. The proposed investment would rank as one of the largest digital infrastructure initiatives being considered in the country, as India's government aims to become a global center for artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure investment. The investment follows the company's entry into India through its acquisition of Lumina CloudInfra in April 2026. That gave AirTrunk a development pipeline in India, including 600 MW across Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad. The proposed development will span multiple states and union territories, the company said. "Capital is mobile, and India is creating the conditions for it to thrive," said AirTrunk founder and CEO Robin Khuda. "India is taking a top-down approach to AI with clear government-led initiatives, a world-class talent pool, and massive availability of renewable energy. We were bullish on India before entering the market through Lumina. Following our discussions with government leaders this week, we’re looking to double down on that commitment."
