Republican states rebrand June as ‘nuclear family month’ or ‘fidelity month’ in latest attack on LGBTQ+ communities June is widely marked as gay Pride month – when LGBTQ+ communities march to protest discrimination and celebrate their identities in the month that the modern US gay liberation movement was born out of the 1969 uprising at New York’s Stonewall Inn – although not so much in certain Republican-led states this year. Some Republican governors have suddenly come up with alternative labels for the month, which both supporters and opponents view as counterprogramming. Continue reading...

Marvin Samuel Tolentino Pineda/iStock via Getty Images The May jobs report smashed expectations. The 172,000 employment gain was far above the 88,000 consensus forecast, while two-month revisions were decidedly to the upside at +93,000. The unemployment rate fell slightly to 4.296% from 4.337%, with a solid 149,000 rise in household employment. Considering revisions, the labor market has added the most jobs in the past three months since early 2024. Government, education & health, and travel & leisure, on net, accounted for all employment gains. Average hourly earnings rose by 0.3% in May, a slight uptick from April’s modest 0.2% increase. But the annual figure was unchanged m/m at 4.3%. That pace will likely just about match the prevailing headline CPI rate, which has been an ominous macro condition in past cycles. Digging into the report, government jobs surprisingly surged by 52,000, the biggest increase since July 2024. Manufacturing payrolls rose in May, and with revisions, the string of gains in that cyclical slice of the economy is now five (positive prints each month in 2026). Leisure & hospitality employment rose sharply, too, at +70,000, well above the recent trend. Elsewhere, full-time jobs dropped by 79,000, the lowest since December 2024, while the number of part-time jobs rose by 266,000. Bonds naturally sold off following the hot labor market report, which pressured equities. The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury rate rose 7 basis points to 4.54%, the highest since May 22. The dollar erased its early losses, while precious metals extended morning declines. Crypto continued to plunge. Traders now price in a Fed rate hike by year-end, and we may find out more on June 17 when Fed Chair Kevin Warsh holds his first press conference as Fed chief. The US Senate has reportedly passed a roughly $70B immigration enforcement package on Friday, and the attention has shifted to another major item on Washington's agenda: the CLARITY Act. With Republicans successfully pushing through funding for ICE and CBP through 2029 in a 52-47 vote, industry participants are increasingly asking whether crypto market structure legislation is next in line. The immigration bill allocates about $38.2B for ICE, $26B for CBP, $5B for DHS, and $1.5B for DOJ to expand hiring, surveillance, detention, and deportation operations, reported Yahoo Finance. Senator Eric Schmitt said the provision aims to stop “criminal illegal aliens sitting in jail then released into American neighborhoods” due to sanctuary policies. Data cited in the debate showed nearly 18,000 individuals were released in 2025 instead of being handed to ICE. Now attention is shifting toward the CLARITY Act . White House crypto adviser Patrick Witt called it “a pro-regulatory, pro-enforcement bill,” while Senator Cynthia Lummis warned that if it fails now, it may not return until 2030, raising pressure in this Congress. Signs from the private sector are also supporting expectations of eventual passage. JPMorgan Chase ( JPM ), Citigroup ( C ), Bank of America ( BAC ), and Wells Fargo ( WFC ) recently unveiled a shared tokenized deposit network . At the same time, Stripe ( STRIP ) and payment giants Visa ( V ) and Mastercard ( MA ) backed a separate stablecoin platform . Industry experts say banks are preparing for a world in which stablecoins can offer yield, a provision that could directly compete with traditional deposits. With one major Senate bill already passed, the CLARITY Act could be next to reshape crypto and banking regulation, even as Bitcoin ( BTC-USD ) slides to around ~$61K. A proposed satellite joint venture between Airbus SE , Leonardo SpA and Thales SA is set to test the EU’s revamped merger framework, which aims to help create globally competitive European champions. The companies signed a preliminary agreement in October to create a European firm that could have the ability to compete with Elon Musk ’s SpaceX . But the alliance, dubbed Project Bromo, is leading to widespread worries among unions as well as suppliers. Labor unions in Germany are wary of France taking too much power while in France groups are worried about job cuts. French unions voiced concerns at a recent meeting that the country would have to deal with excess staffing and loss-making contracts, according to a person familiar with the negotiations. Fourteen unions from seven countries wrote a joint letter to the three CEOs of the venture in February, seeking assurances on job protection, preservation of sites and maintenance of current contractual terms. However, rivals in the space are starting to speak up over the potential risks to competition arising from the deal. “The basic proposition of the deal is fundamentally flawed,” Marco Fuchs , chief executive officer for German space and technology group OHB SE told Bloomberg. “Bromo is not a competitor to SpaceX. They operate in different segments of the value chain.” “Bromo’s market is Europe, and competitive effects will therefore be felt exclusively in Europe: on prices, on innovation pressure, and on the procurement choices available to government customers,” he said. The European Commission should “examine this deal with the utmost scrutiny.” The EU in April proposed plans that would ease the pathway for mergers, part of a push designed to create firms with the size to compete with US and Chinese rivals. The alliance — — to be based in Toulouse, France, and employ about 25,000 people from across companies — is seen as a key litmus test for Europe to consolidate its fragmented defense and space industries, in p...

tupungato HSBC upgraded Hyatt Hotels ( H ) to a Buy rating from Neutral. Notably, the firm sees Hyatt's ( H ) less-price-sensitive customer base providing potential upside to fee expectations and pointed to a favorable risk-reward profile for investors supported by a buyback program. Analyst Meredith Prichard Jensen said while Hyatt's ( H ) Investors Day fell short of being a transformative event, the presentation and Q4 earnings report strengthened the firm's conviction in the durability of Hyatt's ( H ) growth algorithm and scalable premium model. "Specifically, we see a path for the company to deliver on an industry-leading net unit growth target, supported by a robust pipeline (40% of current supply) and whitespace opportunities across underpenetrated markets with better-than-expected momentum in conversion-led growth. We also think that the company's best-in-class loyalty program should continue to drive RevPAR premium, boost customer frequency and spend while lowering distribution costs for enhanced unit economics for owners," updated Jensen. HSBC boosted its 2026-2027 adjusted EBITDA forecast by 2.4% and lifted its price target to $212.
