Western Asset Management Co. reached a $100 million settlement with the Securities and Exchange Commission to resolve an investigation related to trading practices of its onetime star manager Ken Leech . “Western Asset did not take reasonable steps to ensure that Leech’s trading practices complied with the firm’s policies and procedures, and failed reasonably to supervise Leech,” the SEC said in a filing on Friday. Wamco parent Franklin Resources Inc. has sought to move on from Leech, who has pleaded not guilty in a separate Justice Department case. The former co-chief investment officer at Wamco, Leech is charged with steering more than $600 million in gains to favored clients while forcing losses on others. The SEC also filed a fraud case against him which remains ongoing. Wamco said it agreed to the settlement without admitting any wrongdoing as a business decision that allows it “to put this matter behind it and focus fully on its clients.” “The DOJ has notified Western Asset that it is no longer a subject of its investigation and will take no further action,” the company said in a filing . A representative for Leech declined to comment. Bloomberg News reported earlier that Wamco was nearing an agreement with the SEC to resolve the probe. ( TTMI ), for a long time, was valued like a traditional (PCB) manufacturer, whose results mainly depended on electronics market cycles. However, in 2026, the company's business profile looks completely different from what it did a few years ago. Today, the main TTM Technologies growth story is connected not to consumer electronics but to artificial intelligence infrastructure, data center expansion, aviation, and defense programs. The company is becoming an important part of the supply chain in the markets, in which technological complexity, certification requirements, and long-term contracts allow it to reach better profitability and bigger revenue visibility. In my opinion, the main investment thesis today is that TTM Technologies is gradually transforming from a cyclical PCB manufacturer to a higher-value AI and defense infrastructure supplier. For this reason, the current company's growth looks more structural than temporary, while the 2026 results indicate that this transformation is just starting to gain momentum. In 2026, the first quarter changed the market's approach to TTMI The first quarter of 2026 was one of the most important in the company's history. TTM Technologies announced record revenue , which reached $846 million and was more than 30% bigger than a year ago. At the same time, non-GAAP EPS grew to $0.75 per share, and that means about 50% growth in a year. More important is that the growth was reached not only in larger sales. The company also improved profitability. Non-GAAP gross margin increased to 22.3%, and operating margin reached 12.8%. This indicates that a...

The European Commission has called on Spain to move away from using gas-fired power plants to stabilize its electricity system after last year’s blackout, saying better grids, interconnections and more storage should replace the emergency measures. Voltage fluctuations were among the key causes of the nationwide outage, and since then, grid operator Red Eléctrica has been keeping more gas-fired plants online to maintain stability. The average daily minimum output from gas plants has risen about 40% from pre-blackout levels, according to Bloomberg calculations based on ENTSO-E data. While Spain has taken measures to strengthen the resilience of the energy system since the blackout, it would “benefit from taking further steps to enable its transmission system operator to move away from the current increased use of gas power plants to maintain voltage stability,” the commission said in a country report earlier this week. The country has one of Europe’s most renewable-heavy electricity systems, but its reliance on solar and wind makes the grid more complex to manage during disturbances. While traditional sources of power generation such as natural gas, nuclear and hydro continually help regulate the grid’s voltage, most wind and solar plants currently do not. Spain’s move to using more gas-fired generation is meant to be a temporary measure, but it’s not clear when it will end. Alternative systems to help stabilize the grid are expensive and take time to deploy. Spain’s Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge and Red Eléctrica did not immediately respond to emails seeking comment. “We expect the reinforced operating mode to persist because the political focus on system security risk is still high, with a general election coming in 2027,” said Alexis Stavropoulos, a Spanish power market expert at Baringa. The country is increasing investments in energy storage to improve flexibility. By 2030, Spain hopes to have 22.5 gigawatts of storage, but...

But if you invest in “tortoises?” You were sitting pretty! Take a look at the MoneyShow Chart of the Day. It shows the action in the chip sector standout AVGO yesterday, down 12.6% after it released earnings - plus the performance of the Dow Jones Industrial Average ( INDU ), the iShares Russell 2000 ETF ( IWM ), the State Street Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF ( XLV ) and the State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF ( XLF ). They were up anywhere from around 1.7% to 3%. AVGO, INDU, IWM, XLV, XLF (1-Day % Change) (Source: TradingView) Zoom out to a year-to-date time frame and frankly, it’s no contest. Broadcom was up 38.7% through Wednesday’s close. The IWM was no slouch at 17%. But the Dow was up only 6.2%, while the XLV was down 4.2% and the XLF was off 6.6%. Those are tortoise-like performances by comparison, especially with the S&P 500 Index ( SPX ) in the midst of its longest weekly win streak in 41 years! So, what does yesterday’s action “mean” for traders? Is it just a one-day rotation? Or something more? Put me in the camp of nothing much... yet . But with investors all-in on technology stocks in general and AI/chip names in particular , Broadcom’s action is telling. The company’s fiscal second quarter sales surged 48%. Its earnings per share beat estimates. Yet, AVGO still tanked the most in 16 months. When expectations are sky-high, you have to keep raising the bar. Broadcom didn’t - and it paid the price. If we get one or two more high-profile disappointments, more investors and traders will start thinking, “You know what? Tortoises aren’t the ugliest portfolio pets after all!” Editor's Note: The summary bullets for this article were chosen by Seeking Alpha editors. Originally published on MoneyShow.com
