The late actor was a charming and funny father figure, and sometime singer, in the cult TV show, one of his many roles that showed just how much he could do Anthony Head, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Ted Lasso actor, dies aged 72 For years, fans eagerly anticipated the oft-floated idea of a spinoff from the cultishly beloved 1997-2003 TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. As described by creator Joss Whedon, this miniseries would not follow beloved supporting characters like nerdy witch Willow, sardonic vampire Spike or laconic were-teen Oz. It would be called Ripper, and it would focus on the younger days of Rupert Giles, the school librarian and “watcher” character played by Anthony Head. Giles served as the tweedy mentor and father figure to Buffy, the woman chosen to keep vampires at bay, throughout the show’s seven seasons. Sadly, the show never came to pass – and now, with Head’s death at the age of 72 , it probably never will, at least not with its signature star. (And probably not its creator, who has since faced multiple accusations of on-set misconduct.) But both creative and fan interest was consistently high; just think about that for a moment. This 90s-originated teen drama tantalized viewers with the promise of spinning off a token grownup character into his own adventures. To picture Buffy’s contemporaries following suit is downright laughable; consider the equivalent spinoff from Dawson’s Creek, for example. Would it star Jen’s Gram? The female teacher who committed statutory rape with Pacey? Even given the expanded possibilities of a more fantastical world, Sabrina the Teenage Witch’s aunts were never exactly in talks with the BBC, either. Continue reading...

As of this writing at 3:00 PM EST on Friday, June 5th, Bitcoin has fallen to $59,000. Here's why Strategy stock fell this week, and whether you should consider buying the dip. Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) has used various financial engineering techniques to raise capital to buy Bitcoin. It has been famously said that the plan is to buy Bitcoin and never sell it, with the theory that it will help through a time of hyperinflation (it should be noted that hyperinflation has never occurred in the United States). hapabapa/iStock Editorial via Getty Images This is my first coverage of Rubrik ( RBRK ). In this article, I will analyze their business, the company's moat, and the macrotrends impacting the company. I will also discuss their current valuation and provide my opinion on the fair valuation. Based on these factors, I will try to justify why Rubrik can still be classified as a "Strong Buy." Introduction and the Business Model For those unfamiliar with the company, Rubrik is a cloud-native cybersecurity and data management company. So, what exactly do they do? Rubrik's goal is to protect customers from ransomware. Every modern enterprise relies on data like customer records, financial transactions, and proprietary code. Hackers deploy ransomware with the goal of encrypting these files and demanding payment to release this data. Defense against such threats was simple; the company would store all such data as backups on a separate server. But hackers tend to also encrypt this backup data. Here is where Rubrik steps in with what they call Zero Trust data security. The most important feature here is that all this backup data is immutable, meaning data can be added, but it can never be altered, edited, or deleted once it is inside. Not by a hacker, nor a rogue employee, and not even by the company's own IT administrators. Thus, the company always has a safe copy of its data. Even if ransomware encrypts data on live computers, a customer can just rewind their entire computer network back to the exact state it was in an hour before the attack. Beyond Secure Backup Rubrik builds their business on this immutable data storage. If they only offered storage, they would be a commoditized hardware vendor with zero pricing power and a weak moat. But they have a software platform called Rubrik Security Cloud that is divided into four subsections—Data Protection, Cyber Recovery, Identity Security, and AI Acceleration. The last two segments are newer additions to the company’s offerings ...

JHVEPhoto/iStock Editorial via Getty Images In 2018, the global economy went through what is technically known as “a wobble”, causing my portfolio’s most fragile holdings to teeter-totter and, in some cases, shatter. The resulting post-sale reviews of The Restaurant Group , Ted Baker and Xaar ( XAARF ) contain many painful lessons. The main lesson was that quality matters, so I set about updating my investment checklist and the UK Dividend Stocks portfolio to focus on quality first and valuation second. That led to a slew of purchases in 2020, with eight high-quality dividend stocks joining the portfolio. Schroders was the second. At the end of May, after six broadly satisfactory years, I decided to sell Schroders ( SHNWF ). Not because its quality has diminished (it hasn’t), but because the valuation is no longer attractive and, more importantly, because Schroders is (sadly) due to be acquired later this year. The rest of this review is taken more or less directly from the June issue of my monthly newsletter. If you're interested, you can download the original PDF version of this review below: Schroders: 2026 Sale Review (PDF) My buy and sell reviews follow the same 25-step process from my investment checklist, which asks the following five high-level questions: Will the portfolio still be broadly diversified after buying/selling this company? Does the company have a robust financial track record? Does the company have a high-quality core business? Does it have good long-term growth prospects? Is the share price attractive? Hopefully, having read through this pre-sale checklist, you’ll have a better idea of what to look for in a quality dividend stock, and a clearer idea of what a disciplined sell process looks like. 1. Will the portfolio still be broadly diversified by company? YES: Having a sufficiently diversified portfolio is critical when you're investing in individual companies rather than funds. In this case, when Schroders leaves my portfolio, the number of...

Tom Williams | CQ-Roll Call, Inc. | Getty Images Meta shares dropped more than 5% on Friday after the Financial Times reported that the company could potentially raise tens of billions of dollars in a stock offering to fund its artificial intelligence investments. The social media company is pondering the potential stock sale, the FT reported, after rival Alphabet said this week that it plans to raise $85 billion from selling equity, increasing that number from $80 billion. Alphabet has been on a tear over the past year, but the stock is down for a fourth straight week as investors worry about excessive AI spending. Meta hasn't hired banks and may not issue new stock, the FT noted. A Meta spokesperson called the report "pure speculation." "We've been clear that huge opportunities lie ahead in AI, and we'll continue focusing on raising capital in the most flexible ways to support that," the spokesperson said in an email. Like other tech giants, Meta and Alphabet are pouring record sums into capital expenditures as they race to build out AI infrastructure to meet what they see as insatiable demand. In April, Meta raised its 2026 capex guidance to as high as $145 billion from a previous forecast of up to $135 billion. Alphabet said that month that it was hiking the top end of its capex guidance by $5 billion to $190 billion. Wall Street has been treating the two companies very differently over the past year, largely because Alphabet has a prospering cloud business that helps justify its hefty spending. Alphabet's stock is up more than 115% in the last 12 months, topping all of its megacap peers, while Meta is down 13%, the worst performer in the bunch.
