Under cover of darkness, three people pried open a manhole cover in Queens, New York, and clambered down into the sewer. The incident might have gone unnoticed, but the subterranean quest, which was caught on film, captured New Yorkers’ interest when it happened again, and again, in the same month, with two other groups filmed making their way in and out of the sewer system in Brooklyn. The string of events have seen those involved dubbed “mole people” by the local press. Continue reading...

Broadly speaking, we invented sport because we wanted to know who was the fastest, the strongest and the best. But that was a while ago now, and the behemoth we nurtured now serves an entirely different purpose: in a fragmented, atomised, divided world, sport is company and sport is community, a real-time, real-life friend and family. If we’re sad, lonely or bored, we know sport has our back, caring, nurturing and teaching with gentle omnipresence, asking nothing in return. Investors choosing between VanEck Bitcoin ETF (CRYPTO:HODL) and Hashdex Nasdaq Crypto Index US ETF (NASDAQ:NCIQ) may choose to weigh the lower costs of a pure bitcoin play against broader multi-asset crypto exposure. These exchange-traded funds (ETFs) offer regulated access to the volatile digital asset market without the complexity of managing private keys or digital wallets. While the VanEck fund provides concentrated exposure to bitcoin price movements, the Hashdex fund tracks a market-cap-weighted index that currently includes both bitcoin and ether. Beta measures price volatility relative to the S&P 500; beta is calculated from five-year monthly returns. The 1-yr return represents total return over the trailing 12 months. Continue reading

In this article UL PG UL KMB EPC Follow your favorite stocks CREATE FREE ACCOUNT Mammoth Brands wants to take on traditional consumer packaged goods companies, armed with a portfolio of disruptors in the personal and baby care categories that have won over consumers and retailers alike. For the last decade, upstarts like those owned by Mammoth have challenged the relevance and longstanding dominance of legacy giants like Procter & Gamble , Unilever and Kimberly-Clark . The trend has also played out across packaged food and beverage companies, like Poppi and Olipop taking on Coca-Cola and PepsiCo . Consumers' loyalty no longer draws on just brand recognition. Newcomers can offer shoppers something different: better prices, higher quality or fewer ingredients that scare them. "A lot of these companies call these smaller brands 'ankle biters' — tells you exactly what you need to know about how they view the threat," said Nik Modi, co-head of global consumer and retailer research for RBC Capital Markets. "But I think that they're taking it a lot more seriously. I think it's gotten to a tipping point." With brands like Harry's razors, Lume Deodorant and Coterie diapers, Mammoth is reshaping the consumer goods landscape, and it has ambitious plans. "We're trying to build a leading modern [consumer packaged goods] company, like if Procter & Gamble and Unilever were getting built today," Mammoth co-founder and co-CEO Andy Katz-Mayfield told CNBC. In 2024, Mammoth saw revenue of $835 million and almost $100 million in adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, according to a statement from the company. While legacy consumer giants still dwarf the company with their tens of billions of dollars in annual revenue, Mammoth said it has seen a greater than 20% revenue compound annual growth rate over the prior five years through 2024. Soon, a wider swath of investors could bet on the company's vision. Mammoth is weighing an initial public offering as ...

How it started At first, AI influencers were relatively easy to identify - and to ignore. Aside from the occasional bursts of hype, they didn't seem to change much about the way social media worked. The earliest virtual influencers - Lil Miquela with her blunt fringe and freckles, Imma with her bubblegum pink bob, and Shudu Gram with her flawless complexion - were obviously digital productions. Image Source/DigitalVision via Getty Images A few days ago, I published an article introducing what I call the "HALO framework: Heavy Assets, Low Obsolescence." The premise was simple: Some of the world's most valuable businesses own physical assets that competitors simply cannot recreate. I highlighted companies such as American Tower ( AMT ), Equinix ( EQIX ), Brookfield Infrastructure ( BIP ) ( BIPC ), Prologis ( PLD ), and VICI Properties ( VICI ), Americold ( COLD ), Lineage ( LINE ), and Lamar Advertising ( LAMR ) because they control assets protected by scarcity, regulation, network effects, and enormous replacement costs. Today, I want to discuss a little-known company that may represent one of the purest HALO opportunities I've found yet. SKYH Investor Deck Sky Harbour Group ( SKYH ) Most investors see a small-cap aviation infrastructure company generating accounting losses. However, I see something entirely different. I see a company assembling long-term control over some of the most irreplaceable airport real estate in the US while creating a development platform that could eventually resemble a specialized infrastructure REIT. If management continues to execute, Sky Harbour may become one of the most compelling wide-moat infrastructure investments available today. In my recent HALO article , I referenced comments from legendary investor Chris Hohn of TCI Fund Management. He observed, "There are many, many moats. One, which most people don't look at, actually, is irreplaceable physical assets." He later expanded on that idea while discussing airports: "They'll never build a second airport at Madrid. These are natural monopolies." That observation is remarkably important because investors spend enormous amounts of time searching for software advantages, patents, brands, and intellectual property, yet some of the strongest competitive advantages arise from physical scarcity. At first glance, Sky Harbour appears to be a hangar developer. However, that descri...

vadimrysev/iStock via Getty Images Thesis Bonterra Energy ( BNEFF ) is a Canadian micro-cap oil producer that holds assets in northwest Canada. I last covered the company in 2024, so quite a few things have changed . Since then, the company has shifted its investment focus from small (yet reliable) wells in the Cardium to higher yield plays in the Montney and Charlie Lake basins. Both of these are developing plays with significant upside. However, this has resulted in the company stacking on elevated debt levels, putting some stress on the balance sheet. This current upcycle allows the company to achieve both growth and solid financial stewardship, making it a critical point for the company. The company's Charlie Lake assets have tremendous return potential, paying back in less than 8 months at $70 WTI pricing. Funding the development of this asset paves the way for a rebirth of profitability and renewed balance sheet strength. The company combines this strong profitability with the ability to convert high debt into higher shareholder value. The risks associated with small-scale producers are offset through a significant discount to the net present value of available inventory. Adding all of these factors together creates an opportunity worthy of a Strong Buy recommendation. Note: All dollar values are expressed in CAD with the exception of crude oil prices. Who is Bonterra Energy? With the knowledge that I haven't covered this company in over two years, I believe investors are owed a slight refresh on the topic. BNEFF's operations are split across three different operating regions. The bulk of the company's acreage sits in the Cardium play. Sometime after my previous coverage, BNEFF acquired starting positions in both the Montney and Charlie Lake. These two regions differ rather significantly from the company's traditional production in both production volumes and required capital investment. Operational Map (BNEFF Investor Presentation) While the Cardium displayed...

Getty Images A potential SpaceX IPO may reshape space investing, but WARP’s approach focuses on index eligibility rather than hype. If SpaceX ( SPCX ) becomes publicly available, should it be added to an ETF immediately? For a rules-based ETF like the VanEck Space ETF ( WARP ) , the answer is intentionally disciplined. WARP is designed to own publicly traded companies that meet the eligibility requirements of its underlying index. That means SpaceX’s popularity or importance to the space economy does not determine its inclusion. It would need to satisfy the index’s rules before it could be included. That distinction matters. Why Shouldn’t an ETF Own SpaceX Before the IPO? Certain investors can gain private-market exposure to companies before they go public, including through special purpose vehicles, private funds, or other secondary-market structures. These vehicles can offer early access, but they can also introduce tradeoffs, such as limited liquidity, valuation uncertainty, transfer restrictions, lockups, additional fees, and less transparency than public equity ownership. ETFs operate differently. ETFs are built around daily transparency, daily liquidity, and a clear creation/redemption process. Owning a private vehicle instead of public shares can create complications around these. That is why, in our view, waiting for public-market eligibility is the more prudent approach for adding new entrants to an ETF. WARP’s Framework for Adding Potential SpaceX Exposure WARP tracks the MarketVector Space Index (MVWARP), a rules-based index focused on publicly traded companies tied to the space economy. The index methodology determines which companies are eligible, when they may be added, and how large each position can be. For newly public companies, this process depends on the size of the IPO and when it happens relative to the index’s quarterly rebalance calendar. Standard IPO Rule Large IPO Rule A newly public company can be added at a regular index review if it has ...

Investment firm UBS recently named Dutch Bros (NYSE: BROS) its top pick in the restaurant sector, with analyst Dennis Geiger placing an $85 price target on the stock. That's more than 50% upside based on the stock's price as of June 4. Geiger highlighted strong and accelerating traffic trends at the coffee shop operator, driven by menu innovation, increasing mobile orders, and the introduction of hot food items. He also noted that new stores are seeing strong growth, helping support mid-teens unit growth. As such, he believes the company could top expectations this year, especially given that Dutch Bros management tends to issue conservative guidance. Image source: Getty Images. Continue reading

The Bank of Israel intervened in the foreign exchange market in May, purchasing $801 million as the shekel reached the strongest level in over three decades. The transactions were made to maintain the “orderly functioning of the markets,” the central bank said Sunday in a monthly report on foreign exchange reserves. The level of reserves increased by $2.9 billion in May, it added. The shekel appreciated by roughly 4.6% last month even as the central bank sought to curb its rise. It was the biggest gainer in a basket of major currencies tracked by Bloomberg in May, ending the month at 2.81 against the US dollar. The currency has since reversed course, trending lower since June 2, when Bank of Israel Governor Amir Yaron hinted at the prospect of faster interest cuts, citing a reduction in inflation expectations. The comments came after the central bank cut rates by a quarter point to 3.75% on May 25. The central bank has been under pressure to lower borrowing costs and intervene in the FX trade from Israeli exporters, including tech companies, who are struggling to cope with the currency’s strength as they earn revenue in dollars but spend in shekels. READ MORE: Israeli Shekel at 32-Year High Is Causing Angst in Tech Industry Avi Troub, head of the Israeli High-Tech Association, told Bloomberg last month that some firms are having to relocate employees and plants abroad because it’s too expensive to hire locally. High-tech exports rose to approximately $85 billion in 2025, accounting for 58% of total exports, according to the Israeli Innovation Authority. “It’s a conscious decision to sacrifice industry and high-tech,” the Manufacturers Association of Israel, a lobbying group, said in a statement after the rate cut in late May. It said the central bank had failed to grasp the severity of the situation facing exporters and industry.
