RyanJLane/E+ via Getty Images Agricultural equipment makers could be approaching the early stages of a new upcycle even as grain markets face near-term pressure from improving U.S. weather conditions, according to a UBS channel check examining global crop and commodity trends. UBS analyst Steven Fisher said in a June 5 report that uncertainty surrounding weather patterns, energy prices and geopolitical developments could create volatility in corn and soybean markets this year. While that uncertainty may cause some farmers to delay machinery purchases in the short term, higher crop prices and stronger farm profitability could eventually support demand for equipment from manufacturers such as Agco ( AGCO ), CNH Industrial ( CNH ) and Deere ( DE ). The outlook is significant for investors because farm equipment sales are closely tied to crop prices and farm income. After several difficult quarters for agricultural machinery makers, UBS said tightening crop supplies and improving farmer economics could help lay the foundation for the sector's next growth cycle. The near-term picture remains challenging. Corn and soybean prices fell this week as forecasts called for additional rain across parts of the U.S. Corn Belt, easing concerns about drought conditions during the early stages of the growing season. "It was a tough week for corn and soybean prices," Fisher wrote, noting that weaker crop prices are likely to weigh on already fragile farmer sentiment. UBS said U.S. weather remains the most important short-term driver of grain markets. While drought conditions still support commodity prices, favorable weather could continue to pressure crop prices and delay improvements in farm economics. Longer term, however, the firm sees several factors that could tighten agricultural markets. The Information reported that Google has ordered more than 3M Tensor Processing Units from Intel for production in 2028. The report also said Nvidia is testing whether Intel's technology can be used to manufacture a future processor that combines four graphics chips into a single unit. Separately, GF Securities said Intel has become much more aggressive in expanding foundry capacity than previously expected. The report helped lift semiconductor stocks and pushed the Nasdaq 100 ( QQQ ) more than 2% higher following Friday's nearly 5% decline. Tech got a boost after Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang — who is getting the Warren Buffett treatment from traders and algos — said Friday's selloff could be a buying opportunity. Among other active stocks, Paramount Skydance ( PSKY ) is among the biggest S&P decliners after a report that it is prepared to divest children's TV assets if required to secure European approval for its planned acquisition of Warner Bros. And while the long-awaited Siri AI update is the headliner, Apple also emphasized its efforts to optimize its software, improving its performance and reliability. For starters, the company is continuing to refine the Liquid Glass design language that it introduced last year. A slider in the Settings will allow users fine-grained control over the translucency of the Liquid Glass effect, ranging from maximally transparent and glassy to fully tinted. Last year's redesigned icons are also being re-redesigned with more glass layers, which Apple says will make them sharper and more distinctive. On macOS, Apple has also changed the way app toolbars and sidebars work, making toolbars more distinct, making the contents of sidebars extend all the way to the edge of the window, and reintroducing color to sidebar icons.
