The demand came after Elizabeth MacDonough ruled that voter identification legislation supported by the administration couldn't be attached to a budget package. Trump said she "treats Republicans, and everything that they stand for, horribly!" in a post on Truth Social. He accused her of being "a Radical Left Lunatic that caters to Democrats, and has no respect for Republicans, or Republican Ideology." However, she has ruled against both parties during the 14 years she has served as Senate parliamentarian, Bloomberg News reported. Thune, himself, defended her, saying her rulings "break both ways" and that she has a "hard job." Often the parliamentarian decides whether a proposed piece of legislation can be passed with a simple majority or if it requires 60 votes to end a filibuster. During the Biden administration, her rulings obstructed Democratic attempts to add immigration policies and a minimum wage increase to their partisan budget bills. Trump wrote , "Just the other night, as an example, she ruled against us on a proposal that would have easily been approved, and should have been, by anyone else. We have every right to change her, and should do so, IMMEDIATELY."
