Alones Creative/iStock via Getty Images Intuitive Machines ( LUNR ) is a space infrastructure company in the field of developing lunar landers, spacecraft, communications and navigation systems, and mission operations for government, commercial, and national security customers. Much of their revenue is generated from NASA programs such as the Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) initiative, Near Space Network contracts, and engineering services. Unlike many emerging space companies that focus on a single niche, LUNR is positioning itself as an integrated space infrastructure provider with a "build, connect, operate" strategy, aiming to generate recurring revenue from lunar communications, navigation, and data services rather than relying solely on one-off missions. Seeking Alpha The stock saw a steep climb to start the year, which has now been followed up with a sharp drop over the last 6 weeks or so, down almost 60%. I had given the stock a buy rating last spring, which has since resulted in a 120% return. I switched my stance to a hold last fall based on operational, sales, and backlog concerns. I think the recent price decline is not very warranted, especially after a strong Q1 report. One big reason for the falloff is likely from the firm announcing an at-the-market equity offering that allows it to sell up to $500 million of new shares over time. With the business not necessarily becoming more valuable yet, investors are likely worried about owning a smaller percent of the company. The question is if the money can earn a greater return over time, which in LUNR’s case I think it can. I re-rate LUNR as a buy based on record backlog, accelerating revenue, and continued contract awards, specifically with NASA. The next milestone investors need to see is progress toward sustainable profitability and cash generation. I do see this happening as business fundamentals and industry momentum are strengths for the future. Backlog Booming LUNR The last time I wrote on L...
