Krittamet Saehan/iStock via Getty Images A few days ago I visited the office of some programmer friends who run an important blockchain firm at a regional level in Latin America. They told me that soon, everything will run on blockchain technology , from tokenized investments to automated transactions carried out by AI agents. I'll be honest, this sounds very futuristic to me. But all my friends in the crypto world talk about this. But this time they left me thinking about transactions with AI agents. They also told me that nobody will need to visit an e-commerce website because the AI agent, which will act as a digital version of myself under my rules, will make the purchases on its own. I was very interested in this explanation, asked for more details, and left with a preliminary conclusion: there is a real threat to e-commerce and, therefore, to the related assets. I quickly thought about Alibaba Group Holding Limited ( BABA ) and remembered I had written about it almost seven months ago. In that article I gave a negative outlook on e-commerce trends, added to the weak consumption in China. I also analyzed the cloud AI service of Alibaba which is growing at a high speed. But that business has a very high CAPEX and its profitability will depend on monetization. To compensate for the drop in e-commerce revenue, the cloud segment (although it also influences e-commerce) must grow faster and faster. I will make an integral analysis of the business of Alibaba, with the recent results of FY 2026 and the outlooks for Q1 2027 (June 2026). But as I've been writing in my articles, when making an investment we must take into account the trends of the markets and of the sectors. In this case, I want to update that article with the threat that AI agents could pose to e-commerce before moving forward with the analysis. AI Agents as a Threat to E-commerce Let's go back to the beginning of the article and my anecdote: AI agents won't necessarily have to run on a blockchain, thou...

Trans-Ex Lover Says Robinson Confessed To Charlie Kirk Shooting; Widow Presses Court To Release Evidence Erika Kirk, the widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, asked a Utah judge Thursday to make all evidence in the preliminary hearing for her husband's accused killer available to the public - the same day prosecutors played a recorded statement in which the suspect's former roommate said he confessed to the shooting. Tyler Robinson speaks with his attorney Kathryn Nester during a hearing for Robinson, accused in the fatal shooting of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, in 4th District Court in Provo, Utah, on April 17, 2026. Trent Nelson/Pool via Reuters In a filing submitted as the fourth day of proceedings began, Kirk requested that any exhibits admitted during the hearing for Tyler Robinson be published in real time. The request came hours before prosecutors introduced a redacted video interview with Lance Twiggs, Robinson's former roommate and romantic partner, in which Twiggs told investigators that Robinson confessed to shooting Kirk and said he "wishes he hadn't done it." Prosecutors also presented text messages between Robinson and Twiggs discussing the aftermath of the Sept. 10, 2025, shooting at Utah Valley University, including efforts to retrieve a rifle and Robinson's stated intention to turn himself in. Markets are providing a fresh reminder that when anyone makes unqualified predictions about technology equities, be wary. Sure, the dominant tech trade of 2026 has been to buy ascendant chip stocks and sell AI-vulnerable software shares. But that may not be the case for long . Software stocks are coming to life after being battered for months over fears that artificial intelligence will eat their lunch, eroding growth or even wiping out the sector. Meanwhile, chipmakers, which have powered the market higher this year on the back of AI-related demand, are faltering as investors question how much of the trillions of dollars in planned AI capital expenditures will actually be spent. (On Thursday, however, they had a nice day .) “When things get stretched this far, my view is you should bet against the wind a bit,” said Bob Doll, chief investment officer at Crossmark Global Investments, who has been adding software positions while trimming chip holdings. “I don’t think software is going out of business or that semis have found new gold. It seems extreme that chips are up on a flagpole and software’s down in the basement.” What You Need to Know Today War raged in Ukraine and Iran as Russia’s faltering, full-scale invasion of its neighbor results in increasing retaliatory damage to its energy infrastructure , and America’s renewed attacks on Iran triggered strikes on US allies across the Gulf. Both wars are combining to push up global energy prices. The US strikes, following Donald Trump’s fit of pique at the NATO summit about Iran’s intransigence, have been justified by the Pentagon as a way to degrade the nation’s military capacity . But the US has made similar claims since beginning its war in February, and in the process degraded its own reserves of highly expensive advanced weaponry .
