France's April 2026 export growth was driven by higher shipments of transport equipment, particularly aeronautical products, and electrical, electronic and computer equipment. Import growth was led by natural hydrocarbons, computer, electronic and optical products, and chemicals, perfumes, and cosmetics. The impact of the Middle East conflict and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz began to emerge in April, with imports from the region—mainly energy—falling by about 50% from March levels. The State Council recently released its 15th Five-Year Plan for Accelerating Agricultural and Rural Modernization. The plan outlines key technological breakthroughs to be pursued under the banner of “agricultural new quality productive forces.” It calls for developing new gene-editing tools and accelerating innovations in multi-target, high-efficiency gene editing and precise single-base editing.
