Amazon's updated search bar will now show you AI-generated images of products as you describe them. For now, the in-app feature only surfaces AI images of clothing and home goods, allowing you to tap on the image that best matches what you're looking for and search for similar-looking items. In a blog post, Amazon positions the feature as a way to help you search for items if you can't remember the name of a specific texture or style, like describing a "shirt with a draped collar" if you can't think of "cowl neck." The feature seems like it might come in handy in these kinds of scenarios, but it doesn't really add much if you're just searc … Read the full story at The Verge.

Getty Images I have to be completely honest with you. Decisive Dividend ( DE:CA ) caught my attention first because of its name. Why do Canadian cash cow companies need to be so literal in their names!? It gave me the impression of another company I cover, Diversified Royalty ( DIV:CA ). But digging a little deeper, I discovered that they are not actually similar. To put it simply, it's a kind of serial acquirer like Premium Brands ( PBH:CA )—another Canadian company I cover—but within the Finished Product (stoves, agricultural sprayers, maintenance equipment) and Component Manufacturing (wear parts, CNC manufacturing, radiators) segments. The strategy is quite simple. Management looks for mature businesses with stable cash flow and generally non-cyclical (hence the strong focus on non-discretionary assets). Another point is that these businesses generally don't exceed ~$25 million. Many times these bolt-ons are family-owned businesses, with management maintaining local control and allowing them to expand either in Canada or internationally. And the biggest difference between these guys and PEs, for example, is that they are holders. This allows them to compound over time. A lot of people call this strategy a kind of ' perpetual repeatability,' since they can repeat the cycle and use the idle capacity of underperformers to expand production on the other side. But there's a big difference between them and royalty companies, for example. Decisive actually operates these businesses and—despite protecting itself with a non-cyclical portfolio—is at the mercy of operational risks. It's not like a traditional bond proxy that I usually cover in the Canadian market. Acquisition-Backed Dividends: How Do They Work? Right off the bat, it's clear that Decisive is very shareholder-friendly for income-seeking investors. They pay a monthly dividend of $0.045 per share ($0.54 annually), with a yield of ~5.8%. Decisive is also running NCIB, but repurchases are practically irrelevant ...

Investors have long looked to Warren Buffett for investing inspiration. This is because the billionaire, as chief executive officer of Berkshire Hathaway for 60 years, led the company to market-beating returns over that time period. He did this by investing in industries and companies he knew well, and he put a focus on players with solid competitive advantages. Buffett retired from the job at the start of this year and handed the responsibility over to Greg Abel -- and this new CEO has promised to follow in the footsteps of the legendary investor. Buffett also remains chairman and has said he's willing to help out however and whenever needed. Though Buffett and now Abel have constructed and maintained a portfolio that includes many sectors, there is one sector in particular that both of these investing giants are largely ignoring. And here's why investors shouldn't. Continue reading

They text, they chat, they throw popcorn: some people would rather do anything than just sit and watch a show. And my friend and I have the mental scars to prove it Rosamund Pike probably lost a fan last weekend, while simultaneously gaining many more. The secret texter she called out without identifying presumably wasn’t too thrilled to be unnamed but shamed at the end of Pike’s play Inter Alia, but for everybody who has ever had a bad trip to the theatre, it was a good point, well-made and about time, too. After the final curtain, Pike returned to the stage to explain: “I am trying to tell you a story, and I’m feeling you, and I hope you’re feeling me too ... Maybe it was very important, and maybe you’re a doctor, and you’re saving someone’s life, and I hope you are, but we do see these, we do feel them.” Continue reading...

Film editor who won an Oscar for her work on Star Wars, which she nevertheless referred to as ‘a kids’ movie’ In February 1977, George Lucas screened a rough cut of his science-fiction fantasy Star Wars, devoid of any music or special effects, to a select audience at his home in northern California. Among those in attendance, reported Peter Biskind in his book Easy Riders, Raging Bulls, were studio executives from 20th Century Fox, colleagues such as the screenwriter Gloria Katz and the director Brian De Palma. Katz recalled that the screening was greeted by “stunned silence”. De Palma was heard asking: “What is this shit?” Lucas’s wife Marcia, who had edited Star Wars with Richard Chew and Paul Hirsch, was in tears, convinced the film was doomed. Katz advised her: “Don’t cry when there are people from the studio there.” Continue reading...

Getty Images Once in a while, a company finishes the hard part of a turnaround while the market argues whether the turnaround was even possible. Today, that’s Alphabet Inc. ( GOOGL ) ( GOOG ). The worry that hung over this stock for the past two years, the skepticism that a cloud and advertising giant would slowly get taken down by the very AI it helped kick off, has been flipped on its head. Alphabet also raised roughly $84.75 billion in fresh equity to fund its latest AI build-out, with Berkshire Hathaway anchoring the deal with a $10 billion commitment. More on this news further, but it certainly backs up the case I'm about to lay out. Spoiler: My Strong Buy rating for Alphabet stays right where it is. Where does Alphabet stock stand now? Seeking Alpha At the time of publication, GOOGL trades around $364 per share, and the run since my last note has been loud, with the share price gaining almost 13.5%—more or less the same as the S&P 500 ( SP500 ) over the same stretch. Since the beginning of the year, Alphabet stock is up ~16.5%, but over the last 52 weeks, it’s been stellar, up 119%. A good chunk of those gains showed up in March 2026 as a result of the company’s blowout first-quarter 2026 print and the fact that long-term interest rates were cooling off, which also sent other big tech logos higher. What we need to look at isn’t necessarily the scale of the rally but the quality of it. I mean, a 119% in a year is usually reason to pause. But in Alphabet’s case, I think the opposite may be true, because even though the price has changed, the way many of us think about the business hasn’t. The rest of this piece is about that opportunity. What makes Alphabet even more compelling now? I’ve been talking about a shift or a transformation, but has anything actually changed under the hood? Well, the bear case around Alphabet was always about a company being so reliant on its ad business, or the cloud business, finally plateauing or “maturing.” But guess what? That fea...
