Allegations Of Pentagon "Casualty Cover-Up": The Intercept Well-known national security news site The Intercept has issued fresh reporting which alleges a Pentagon cover-up when it comes to mounting US casualties from Trump's Operation Epic Fury. Speculation and questions have lately surged among the public and analysts given that casualty updates put out by the Pentagon have been very few and far between. It actually accuses the Pentagon of shoddy record-keeping going back significantly before the current Iran war . Currently the official numbers... "Since the start of Operation Epic Fury, approximately 303 US service members have been wounded," CENTCOM spokesman Tim Hawkins said earlier this week. And, as of April 2nd, 13 US service members have been confirmed killed going back to the war's start on February 28, 2026. But The Intercept is alleging an astounding "casualty cover-up" by the Trump administration : Almost 750 U.S. troops have been wounded or killed in the Middle East since October 2023, an analysis by The Intercept has found. But the Pentagon won’t acknowledge it. U.S. Central Command, or CENTCOM, which oversees military operations in the Middle East, appears to be engaged in what a defense official called a “casualty cover-up,” offering The Intercept low-ball and outdated figures and failing to provide clarifications on military deaths and injuries. Getty Images Two officials confirmed that at least 15 soldiers were injured last week in an Iranian strike on a Saudi air base, adding that "Hundreds of US personnel have been killed or injured in the region since the US launched a war on Iran just over a month ago." The Intercept found that CENTCOM's latest April 2nd casualty count and 'update' to be "three days old and excluded at least 15 wounded in the Friday attack on Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia ," noting that "The command did not reply to repeated requests for updated figures." This has raised suspicions that other incidents are being omit...

At least two of Japan’s biggest power retailers have temporarily stopped accepting new industrial clients, pending greater clarity on fuel markets upended by the war in the Middle East. Tokyo Gas Co. , which supplies gas and electricity to the nation’s capital, suspended acceptance of new clients for industrial power use from March 6, a company spokesperson said. With the ongoing conflict affecting procurement costs, the company has yet to decide when it will resume taking on new customers, the spokesperson said. Eneos Power Corp., the power-retail unit of oil refiner Eneos Holdings Inc. , has also temporarily stopped taking requests from new clients for industrial use, according to its website. A company spokesperson declined to comment further. The temporary restrictions apply only to industrial electricity users. Both companies are continuing to take on new clients for comparatively low-voltage household use. Read More: Japan Spot Power Surges to Three-Year High as War Boosts Fuels The US-Israeli war with Iran has resulted in the near-closure of the Strait of Hormuz , the strategic waterway that’s normally a transit point for a fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas. This, along with the destruction of key energy infrastructure in the region, has affected the Japanese power market, which relies heavily on fossil-fuel imports to generate electricity. Japan’s power retailers have suspended acceptance of new clients before, for example when the Russian invasion of Ukraine sent fuel prices skyrocketing. Such measures can threaten efforts by factories and other large power consumers from securing enough electricity.

Japan kicks off its earnings season with the owners of Uniqlo and 7-Eleven stores. Earnings from the retail giants are expected to be a mixed bag with uncertainty hovering over their outlook amid the Middle East conflict. Fast Retailing Co. ’s quarterly profit growth was probably sustained thanks to the performance of Uniqlo in Japan and overseas. The company’s raised full-year guidance in January was conservative, with upside potential in the second half of this fiscal year, said SMBC Nikko Securities analyst Kuni Kanamori . While Seven & i Holdings Co. also raised its full-year net income guidance last quarter, the convenience store operator is expected to see its operating income decline year-on-year in the final quarter, consensus estimates show. Investors are watching for details on its planned US initial public offering and for additional share buybacks. Highlights to look out for: Monday: No notable earnings. Tuesday: LG Energy Solution ( 373220 KS ) may post an operating loss for the first quarter. The company plans to almost double its ESS battery capacity by the end of 2026, it told investors at the annual general meeting. Wednesday: No notable earnings. Thursday: Uniqlo parent Fast Retailing ( 9983 JP ) should show an improvement in the first half amid stronger growth in overseas markets, while the recovery in Greater China will be in focus, said Jefferies. The company also plans to accelerate Uniqlo store openings in India to capture market share in the world’s most populous country. Seven & i’s ( 3382 JP ) operating income for fiscal 2026 was probably little changed. While same store sales growth in Japan is improving, a meaningful recovery in North America is elusive, Jefferies said. Investors will focus on whether the new management can drive real change and if upcoming buybacks are sufficient to support the stock, Jefferies added. Tata Consultancy Services’ ( TCS IN ) artificial intelligence data centers business will be closely watched after the com...
