FatCamera/E+ via Getty Images Before June 1, 2026, I was an excited sports fan. As a transplanted New Yorker in Las Vegas, I have two teams I support in different sports heading into the finals, starting tonight. The Vegas Golden Knights punched their ticket to the Stanley Cup final by sweeping the Presidents Cup winner, the Colorado Avalanche. They will face the Carolina Hurricanes in the final, starting today. The New York Knicks, the NBA franchise that has not been in the finals since 1999 and has not won a championship since 1973, will play the San Antonio Spurs for the NBA crown starting at 8 p.m. on June 3. ABC owns the broadcast rights to the NHL and NBA finals. The E.W. Scripps Company ( SSP ) is an owner of local ABC affiliates across the United States, including KTNV in Las Vegas, the station I would be watching if SSP and DirecTV, a privately owned company, did not declare war on Sunday, May 31, at 7 p.m. PST. A Battle With Three Losers Ticket prices for the NHL and NBA finals in North Carolina, Las Vegas, San Antonio, and most of all New York City are prohibitive. However, the teams’ supporters can tune in from home and watch all the action on their ABC affiliates, as long as they're not in Scripps markets, which include 54 local stations across 36 television markets in the United States. Cities in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, Ohio, Tennessee, Utah, and Wisconsin may not get to watch any of the best-of-seven series. I'm a DirecTV customer at the moment. I called the customer relations line and was told that Scripps is responsible for the blackout of the local ABC channels covering the finals. In a statement to Variety , DirecTV said: Scripps is demanding the highest rates DirecTV has ever received from a station group, which would continue to dramatically raise costs for consumers and businesses already struggling with affordability. After DirecTV declined those demands and sought a more reasonable agre...

A data center tied to CoreWeave Inc. raised $900 million from a high-yield note offering, joining a wave of junk issuers tapping debt markets to fund artificial intelligence infrastructure. The five-year bonds, issued by Elk Grove Village Property LLC, an indirect subsidiary of Prime Data Centers LLC , were priced at par to yield 7.5%, at the low end of price talk, according to a person familiar with the matter. Banco Santander SA managed the offering, which was increased by $50 million from the amount initially discussed. Elk Grove is developing a “build-to-suit hyperscale data center” within the Chicago metropolitan area that has been fully leased to CoreWeave for 15 years, representing around $2.2 billion in revenue. Data center developers have increasingly turned to the high-yield bond market to fund a wave of expansion. Companies tied to the sector’s build out have raised more than $27 billion from riskier bonds so far this year, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Many of those projects have been backed by leases with speculative-rated CoreWeave, including facilities being built by Applied Digital Corp. and Core Scientific Inc. CoreWeave has tapped both the junk-bond and the leveraged loan markets this year to fund its own AI-related investments. CoreWeave, part of a group of businesses known as neoclouds, leases access to AI data center capacity to clients including OpenAI , Meta Platforms Inc. and Microsoft Corp .

OpenAI's ( OPENAI ) ChatGPT has become the fastest app in history to surpass 1B monthly active app users, market intelligence firm SensorTower said on Tuesday. According to Sensor Tower estimates, it took ChatGPT roughly three years after it was launched to hit the milestone. For comparison purposes, Google's ( GOOG ) ( GOOGL ) Maps, Chrome, YouTube, Meta's ( META ) Messenger, and TikTok took between five and eight years to cross the 1B mark via the app, SensorTower added. ChatGPT hit the milestone of 900M weekly active users in December 2025, but the company has not provided an update since then. Google's Gemini, which competes with ChatGPT, hit 900M monthly active users last month, the tech giant said at its recent developer conference. Claude, which is made by Anthropic ( ANTHRO ) and Grok, which comes from SpaceXAI ( SPCX ), had 56M and 50M global monthly active users via their respective apps, SensorTower added. The firm also noted that Gemini had 472M monthly active app users quarter-to-date. “Claude’s growth could be driven by significant model advancements (and enhanced capabilities) in the past year or rising consumer sentiment after the announcement of OpenAI’s partnership with the Department of War in 1Q26,” SensorTower wrote in a release. Other takeaways Despite ChatGPT hitting the 1B monthly active user milestone, SensorTower found that competition has increased as top-tier artificial intelligence models continue to improve. The intelligence firm said that ChatGPT app users in the U.S. who also installed Claude spent 31% more time on Claude than they did on ChatGPT. As such, they spent 5% less time on ChatGPT after they installed Claude, SensorTower added. Even more recent data shows that Claude engagement is still higher than ChatGPT, SensorTower explained, as users who installed Claude in March 2026 spent 10% less time on the former before installing Claude. Those who installed Claude in March 2025 spent 60% more time on ChatGPT, SensorTower added. Mo...
