Hallador ( HNRG ) said the acquisition's ~$450M delivered price represents more than half the estimated total project cost for the proposed Merom simple cycle natural gas-fired combustion turbine project, which is currently advancing through MISO's ERAS interconnection process. The turbines have never been previously fired and are being acquired at what the company said is an attractive valuation to comparable new equipment alternatives, particularly given the current delivery windows for new turbines. "This acquisition represents a meaningful step in Hallador’s evolution toward a more diversified, multi-fuel generation platform capable of serving the growing demand for reliable, dispatchable power in MISO Zone 6," Chairman and CEO Brent Bilsland said. Meta’s AI support chatbot proved unusually helpful to hackers looking to steal and resell notable Instagram accounts—the hackers simply asking the bot to change the accounts’ associated email addresses while using VPN to mask their true locations. Videos featuring the “shockingly easy” exploit have been circulating among Telegram groups for hackers and security researchers, according to 404 Media . The exploit allowed hackers to take over and flip valuable Instagram accounts worth hundreds of thousands of dollars on the gray market before Meta implemented an emergency patch on May 29. The Barack Obama White House account and the Chief Master Sergeant of Space Force’s account also posted pro-Iranian images and messages while they were temporarily compromised. Attackers simply had to use a VPN to approximately match their location to the target Instagram account’s region, begin a password reset process, and then ask Meta’s AI support chatbot to change the email address associated with the account, according to 404 Media. It’s a very straightforward prompt injection attack. Read full article Comments

On today’s Big Take podcast, Bloomberg reporters Noah Buhayar and Coulter Jones join host Sarah Holder to talk about how acting director Russell Vought gutted the CFPB, and how the agency has refused to enforce settlements and pursue lawsuits — in some cases letting big businesses pocket millions they’d already agreed to pay consumers. The office of Canada-US Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc stressed the importance of “maintaining the highly integrated North American energy market” ahead of talks in Washington with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer . LeBlanc and Janice Charette , Canada’s chief negotiator to the US, are scheduled to meet Greer on Tuesday before returning to Ottawa the same day. The trip comes as pressure builds on Prime Minister Mark Carney ’s government to show Canada is still engaged with the US on trade. US and Mexican negotiators began formal talks last week on potential changes to the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement, but no date has been set for Canada’s bilateral talks with Washington. Greer faces a Monday deadline to notify Congress of US intentions for the agreement, one month before the July 1 review date. On Monday, LeBlanc and Energy Minister Tim Hodgson met with leaders from Canada’s oil and gas sector, according to a government readout. Discussions centered on preserving the tightly linked energy market “that supports jobs, economic growth and energy security on both sides of the border.” The government did not immediately identify which companies participated. About 90% of Canada’s crude exports went to the US last year, even after the expansion of a west-coast pipeline in 2024 enabled a surge in shipments to China. Canada is seeking to grow energy exports to Asia and has pledged support for Alberta’s proposal for a new conduit to British Columbia tidewater. Despite trade tensions that have slowed some cross-border shipments, Canadian energy firms still see opportunity in the US. Earlier this year, President Donald Trump authorized the proposed Bridger pipeline expansion , which would move some 550,000 barrels of oil a day from Alberta to Wyoming.
