Joakim Leroy/E+ via Getty Images Israel's Defense Ministry accused France of unfairly targeting Israeli participation at this month's Eurosatory defense exhibition in Paris after French authorities imposed new limits on Israeli exhibitors and reportedly barred Israeli government representatives from attending. French officials confirmed that Israeli companies will be permitted to display only products related to air and missile defense systems at the event, which opens June 15. The French Defense Ministry did not provide a detailed explanation for the restrictions and did not comment publicly on reports that Israeli government officials would be excluded from the exhibition. An Israeli Defense Ministry spokesperson condemned the move, describing it as a politically motivated decision and accusing France of adopting a pattern of actions that have strained relations between the two countries. Tensions between Paris and Jerusalem have grown since late 2023 as French leaders increasingly criticized Israel's military campaigns in Gaza and Lebanon. Differences have also emerged following military action by Israel and the United States against Iran earlier this year. The relationship has been further tested by disagreements over the Palestinian issue. Israel's government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, objected to French President Emmanuel Macron's decision last year to recognize a Palestinian state. The dispute comes ahead of one of the defense industry's largest annual gatherings. According to organizers, more than 2,600 exhibitors are expected to participate in this year's Eurosatory exhibition, which attracts military officials, defense contractors and government delegations from around the world. Kevin Dietsch/Getty Images News The White House plans to drop its $1.8B so-called “weaponization” fund that was meant to pay alleged victims of overzealous prosecutorial conduct by the U.S. Justice Department under his predecessor, according to a media report on Monday. The reversal came after President Donald Trump faced pushback from Republicans in the House and Senate. "It's dead for now," said one senior administration official, Axios reported. Another senior official also told the news organization that the effort would be scuttled. The fund was the bulk of a settlement under which President Donald J. Trump would drop his $10B lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service. Critics of the settlement said it created a “slush” fund that could be used to compensate those convicted for the assault on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Late on Friday, the Wall Street Journal , citing people familiar with the matter, reported that Trump's aides had discussed whether he should nix the fund in exchange for getting immigration enforcement funding passed this month.
