InPost SA is increasing its presence in France with an additional €500 million ($581 million) investment by 2030 to support organic growth, as Poland’s largest parcel locker operator expands across Europe. InPost has been active in France since 2021, when it bought parcel locker firm Mondial Relay SASU for €565 million, gaining a major foothold in France, Benelux and the Iberian Peninsula. The company has already invested €900 million in France, making it the biggest Polish investor in the country. “When it comes to attracting foreign investment and the government’s approach to entrepreneurs, France is number one for me in Europe,” InPost Chief Executive Officer Rafal Brzoska told reporters in Paris on Monday. “Today, we have more than 11,000 machines across France. We aim to reach 15,000 by the end of the year, and next year, we want to accelerate.” The new funding will help InPost speed up the rollout of parcel lockers and upgrade its existing distribution centers. The investment is expected to create around 750 jobs by 2030. The Amsterdam-listed company operates in nine markets. It entered the UK in 2023 through the purchase of a stake in Menzies Distribution, followed by the takeover of Yodel in 2025. The acquisition of Spain’s Sending further strengthened its position in Iberia, broadening its delivery network beyond parcel lockers into home-delivery services. Next year, the company will focus on accelerating its growth in France, the UK, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands, according to the CEO. Earlier this year, InPost became a takeover target after a consortium led by Advent International and FedEx Corp sought to acquire the firm in an all-cash offer for all of its shares. The offer period remains open until July 27.

Many investors who follow CRISPR Therapeutics (NASDAQ: CRSP) still treat it as a gene-editing story. That makes sense, as the company's only commercialized drug, Casgevy, is a gene-editing therapy. But this biotech's ambitions are bigger than that modality alone. In May 2025, it paid $95 million up front to Sirius Therapeutics for CTX611, a clinical-stage long-acting small interfering RNA (siRNA) therapy that's being investigated for the prevention of thrombosis and thromboembolic disorders. That often-overlooked program may turn out to be a major asset for the company; here's why. Image source: Getty Images. Continue reading

US Moves To Further Restrict China's Access To Advanced AI Chips Authored by Evgenia Filiaminova via The Epoch Times, The U.S. Department of Commerce has issued new guidance to prevent Chinese companies from obtaining advanced U.S. artificial intelligence (AI) chips, such as Nvidia’s most sophisticated Blackwell processors, through overseas subsidiaries. The May 31 guidance clarifies that export licenses are required for entities headquartered in China or Macau, regardless of where their affiliates are located. The U.S. Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) said that licensing requirements for advanced computing items destined for China- or Macau-headquartered entities were first established in November 2023 and remain in effect. The agency said the requirement applies even when those entities are located outside China or Macau. The clarification follows confusion over a May 2025 announcement by the BIS that it would not enforce certain parts of the Biden-era AI diffusion rule. The rule was designed to restrict sales of advanced AI chips to strategic rivals while allowing broader access for U.S. allies. The BIS said the policy change did not remove existing licensing requirements for exports involving Chinese or Macau-based customers, meaning companies must still obtain licenses unless an exemption applies. The guidance also states that legitimate data center operators can continue to use, maintain, store, or replace advanced AI chips and equipment they already own. The clarification does not require companies to shut down or remove existing systems. Nvidia’s sales of advanced AI chips to China remain subject to U.S. export controls. The Trump administration created a framework in 2025 allowing certain chips, including the H200, to be sold to approved Chinese customers under Commerce Department oversight. Trump said in a Dec. 8, 2025, post on Truth Social that sales would be permitted subject to a 25 percent fee benefiting the U.S. government a...

Illinois legislators early Monday morning passed a nearly $56 billion budget for the fiscal year starting July 1, aiming to ease higher health-care and housing costs while bracing for potential federal funding cuts. The spending plan for fiscal 2027 includes most of the items second-term Illinois Governor JB Pritzker laid out in a February proposal . The Democratic billionaire governor has said his administration and the Democrat-controlled state legislature are focused on affordability to counter federal decisions that are driving up prices and economic uncertainty. Read More: White House to Tighten Grip on $1 Trillion in Federal Grants “Every element of the budget for the upcoming fiscal year was thoroughly deliberated with the aim of achieving widespread affordability for all Illinoisans,” Pritzker said in a statement Monday. “It builds upon seven years of fiscal discipline. Illinois, like many other states, is grappling with rising social service needs from mental health to food assistance while the Trump administration and GOP-controlled Congress pull back aid. The state budget includes measures such as a temporary halt to a scheduled gas-tax increase and a sales tax holiday for about a week in August on school supplies. Republicans, the minority party in Illinois, on Monday panned the budget for raising spending and taxes, including new levies on social media . Spending in Illinois has risen since Pritzker took office in 2019 but the state’s fiscal trajectory also has improved. He has been able to enact spending plans on time — after the state suffered a two-year budget impasse from 2015 through 2017 under former governor Bruce Rauner . The state has also paid down some bills, which helped it earn a series of credit upgrades. Under Pritzker, the state has pulled back from the brink of junk status, even though its rating remains the lowest of all states and borrowing costs the highest. Amid the fiscal challenges, a bill that would establish a framework for muni...

Olivier Le Moal/iStock via Getty Images Market Environment The US-Iran military conflict was the dominant force shaping financial market performance during the first quarter of 2026. The failure of bilateral nuclear negotiations to advance meaningfully during January and February led the US to bolster its military presence in the Middle East, signaling heightened resolve toward Iran. At the end of February, the US and Israel initiated military action against Iran. The military campaign proved far more protracted and expansive than markets had initially priced in, with attacks by all sides continuing through the end of March. The effective blockade of the Strait of Hormuz sent WTI crude oil prices soaring 77% during the quarter, breaching the $100-per-barrel threshold. Faced with the prospect of stagflationary pressures, slower growth alongside rising inflation, investors unwound risk positions during March, driving a broad-based selloff across equities, fixed income, credit, and traditional safe havens alike. Markets abandoned their prior expectation of the Fed orchestrating two 25 basis point (BPs) rate cuts in 2026 as inflation risks skewed higher and the growth trajectory became increasingly clouded. Domestic equities posted a 4.3% loss for the quarter and Treasury yields moved higher. The yield curve bear-flattened, with 2-year Treasury yields rising 32 basis points to 3.79% and 10-year yields climbing 17 basis points to 4.32%. The Bloomberg US Treasury Index returned -0.04% for the quarter and the Bloomberg US Aggregate Bond Index returned of -0.05%. Within spread sectors, Agency MBS led performance with a 0.40% quarterly return, 16 basis points ahead of comparable Treasuries, and supported by a White House directive instructing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to expand their MBS purchase activity. Investment Grade Corporates lagged, posting a -0.54% return that trailed comparable Treasuries by 49 basis points. The corporate index spread widened 11 bps to 89 bps ove...
