US oil refiners are running their plants harder than usual, with some even putting off maintenance, as strong profits and steady demand for fuels tempt the processors to run plants near maximum capacity. The industry has had one of its lightest maintenance seasons in years. From January through May, refiners shut down an average of 470,000 barrels a day in processing capacity. That compares with 700,000 during the same period last year and 900,000 in 2024, according to consultancy Energy Aspects. The trend looks set to continue. One case in point: Motiva Enterprises LLC has delayed a major maintenance project at its Port Arthur refinery on the Texas Gulf Coast by about a year to take advantage of strong product margins. That includes work at its biggest crude unit, with the delay pushing the turnaround into the fall of 2027, people familiar with the operations have said. “So far, there’s not a lot of maintenance in the books for second half of the year,” said Raul Calzada, a refining analyst at Energy Aspects’s Houston office. “Demand for refined products is going to be high, so the market needs refiners to run hard the rest of the year.” There is a tradeoff. The longer refiners postpone maintenance while operating near full capacity, the greater the risk of unexpected breakdowns that can force units offline, Calzada said. On the Gulf Coast, unplanned outages took out an average of 170,000 barrels a day of capacity during the 2026 spring maintenance season, compared with 300,000 in 2025. For now, the US refining industry continues to rev up in response not only to domestic demand but also as American exports of diesel and jet fuel stay robust in the wake of the Iran war. The effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz continues to disrupt global energy flows and Asian refiners can’t get the crude they need for fuel production. TomasSereda/iStock via Getty Images Orla Mining ( ORLA ) down 7.5% following a trading halt Monday, after the miner said operations have been temporarily stopped at its Camino Rojo mine in Mexico due to a work stoppage and blockade by its unionized workers . The company said the work stoppage and blockade arose in connection with negotiations regarding two separate payments: a worker productivity bonus and a profit-sharing entitlement. Orla ( ORLA ) said it negotiated the productivity bonus with representatives of the workers' union, but members of the unionized workforce objected to the amount paid under the profit-sharing entitlement and initiated the work stoppage, which did not follow the procedures required under Mexican law. Camino Rojo produced 96,764 oz of gold in 2025, and the company previously guided for FY 2026 production of 110K-120K oz of gold at all-in sustaining costs of $1,150-$1,250/oz. Last month , Orla Mining ( ORLA ) agreed to be bought by Equinox Gold in an all-stock deal, creating a North American senior gold producer with ~1.1M oz of expected annual gold production. Bitmine Immersion Technologies ( BMNR ) on Monday reported crypto, cash, and “moonshot” holdings worth $11.6B, including 5.42M Ethereum ( ETH-USD ) tokens, $446M in cash, a $180M stake in Beast Industries, and a $93M investment in Eightco Holdings ( ORBS ). The company reported that it now owns 4.49% of Ethereum's 120.7M token supply and says it is closing in on its goal of owning 5% of all ETH. Chairman Thomas “Tom” Lee said Bitmine acquired another 26.5K ETH last week and expects the asset to benefit from Wall Street tokenization and growing AI demand for public blockchains. As of May 31, through its MAVAN staking platform, Bitmine has already staked 4.72M coins worth about $9.5B, with projected annual staking revenue of roughly ~$258M. So, why is Bitmine stock falling despite building a 5.42M Ethereum empire ? The answer appears to be a combination of weak crypto market sentiment and deteriorating technicals. As of the time of writing, Ethereum is trading near ~$1,962, down about ~2.3% in 24 hours and ~8% over the past week, while Bitmine shares are down ~1.7% at ~$18.92 and have fallen ~13.6% over the past month despite the company's aggressive ETH accumulation strategy. The one-month chart tells a similar story. The stock has shifted from an early-May rally near ~$24 into a steady downtrend marked by lower highs and lower lows. Volume spikes on selloffs, a bearish MACD crossover, and an RSI near ~47 suggest weakening momentum. The stock recently bounced from around ~$18.3 but failed to break above the key ~$20 resistance zone. For now, support remains near ~$18.5, while ~$20 continues to be the first major resistance area experts are watching. Fans and professionals alike are desperate for positivity after last year’s damp squib, but there is reason for hope One of the major benefits of announcing a “five-year plan” is that it should buy you some time but Epsom’s ambitious scheme to revive the status and popularity of the Derby , which was unveiled in December, may be an exception. There were just 22,312 paying spectators at last year’s race , and the need for an upturn in attendance for the 247th running of the Classic on Saturday is immediate. In part, this is because the Derby still retains a special place in the hearts and memories of many of the sport’s most committed fans, and its steady decline over the last couple of decades has been painfully obvious to all of us who still cherish the annual pilgrimage to Epsom in the first week of June. There is a collective need for signs of a revival. Continue reading...

CloudVisual/iStock via Getty Images I have covered Seanergy Maritime Holdings Corp. ( SHIP ) before , where I outlined the investment thesis in detail and explained why I considered it a compelling Buy. Since then, the stock has barely moved despite reporting great Q1 results , beating analysts’ estimates , and maintaining its dividend as expected. Despite the muted reaction, I believe that the company is even more compelling with the strong capesize rates. Background Seanergy Maritime is one of the only two public capesize companies in the market, a shipping segment with record-high rates at the moment. Company The company owns 19 vessels and also has one bareboat (2 Newcastlemax and 18 Capesize) with an average age of approximately 14.9 years. The fleet is relatively old (about 40% is scrubber-fitted), and the company is taking steps to modernize it. Seanergy has agreed to sell two of its oldest capesize vessels and has further increased its newbuild program to 6 vessels from the previous 5. Four will be delivered in 2027, one in 2028, and the final one in 2029. Management commented that those newbuilds will be chartered out for a base rate plus a profit share component: So it's going to be the base rate. Then we will have the first part from the base rate until the [Sealink], which is going to be 100% for the company. And then it's going to be a 50-50% split between us and the charter from the Sealink and thereafter. For reference, Navios Maritime Partners L.P. ( NMM ), which I also consider a very interesting shipping company , recently signed charters for its capesize newbuilds for a $25,000 base rate plus a 50%-50% profit share. The rest of the fleet is mostly on index-linked charters with the possibility to convert them to fixed ones, and management also commented that they have covered 50% of its fleet until year-end at $29,000 per day. As far as the existing fleet is concerned, we have 50% covered in FFAs until the year-end at around $29,000 a day. So we're...

Luke Sharrett/Getty Images News Boeing ( BA ) said Monday that its MQ-28 Ghost Bat collaborative combat aircraft has completed radar cross-section testing, a step intended to validate the drone's ability to reduce detection by enemy radar systems. The company said the testing generated data on the aircraft's radar signature, providing information that could be used by military customers to assess survivability, support procurement decisions and inform operational planning. MQ-28 Ghost Bat collaborative combat aircraft (Boeing) The MQ-28 is an uncrewed aircraft developed to operate alongside crewed military aircraft. Boeing ( BA ) has positioned the platform as a collaborative combat aircraft capable of performing missions such as intelligence gathering, electronic warfare and force support while operating with a reduced radar profile. The announcement highlights continuing progress in a growing defense market for autonomous and semi-autonomous aircraft designed to work in coordination with fighter jets, surveillance aircraft and other military platforms. Several countries, including the United States and Australia, are investing in collaborative combat aircraft programs as militaries seek lower-cost ways to expand airpower and increase operational flexibility. Radar cross-section testing is commonly used to measure how detectable an aircraft is to radar systems. Boeing said the testing confirmed design and material choices intended to reduce the MQ-28's radar signature and decrease the distance at which adversaries can detect or engage the aircraft. "The combination of a highly capable platform, stealth features, advanced autonomy and artificial intelligence provides unprecedented ability for air forces to extend their mission effectiveness and operational flexibility," Brad Thompson, director of Phantom Works Australia, said in a statement. The MQ-28 program began development in 2017 and completed its first flight in 2021. Boeing said the aircraft has since accumul...
