Traders are betting the US dollar will rise in the weeks ahead, supported by lingering uncertainty over US-Iran talks and an AI-fueled rally in US stocks. The Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index advanced last month as investors gauged the tenuous progress of US-Iran negotiations. The war has effectively shuttered the Strait of Hormuz, sending energy prices soaring, and catalyzed fears that global central banks, including the Federal Reserve, will need to hike interest rates to counter inflation. On Monday the gauge rose another 0.4%, after a report suggested that Iran will stop exchanging messages with the US after Israel expanded its assault on Lebanon. The euro traded around the $1.1615 level as of 10:15 a.m. in New York; the yen was at 159.70 per dollar. The index extended gains after a report showed US manufacturing activity in May expanded at the fastest pace in four years. The greenback has also found support in recent weeks from a resilient US stock market, where enthusiasm over artificial intelligence has buoyed equity prices despite the undercurrent of geopolitical stresses. The S&P 500 Index rose 5% in May to fresh record highs, on top of a 10% gain in April. Investors this week will look to fresh data — notably Friday’s May jobs report — to assess the health of the US economy and the Fed’s path under new Chairman Kevin Warsh . “There is a creeping view that US growth could be re-accelerating as AI investment seeps through the broader economy,” Chris Turner , head of foreign-exchange strategy at ING Bank, wrote Monday. “This week’s data should further support the growing narrative that the Fed can be comfortable with its full employment mandate and can focus squarely on the upside risks to inflation.” Read more: US Dollar’s May Rally Leaves Strategists Wary of More Gains Speculative positioning in the currency derivatives market suggests that traders are increasingly bullish on the greenback. Dell Technologies (DELL) has become one of the market's biggest AI winners, with the stock tripling this year and jumping nearly 60% in the past week alone. The rally has pushed Dell's price-to-sales multiple from less than 0.8x to more than 2.5x, a valuation once reserved for much faster-growing software companies, while lifting the stock to roughly 23x forward earnings, levels that would have seemed unthinkable for a company long associated with PCs and commodity servers. Is this simply AI-fue

A nearly six-month old video of Donald Trump praising International Business Machines Corp. ’s CEO sent the shares surging almost 9% on Monday, adding more than $24 billion to the company’s stock-market value. When the president initially praised IBM’s Arvind Krishna as a “legend” at the December White House event, there was little immediate market reaction. But over the weekend, dozens of accounts on X recirculated the video, with one Saturday post from Polymarket Money alone racking up more than 700,000 views. By Sunday night, trading on Robinhood Markets Inc. ’s 24 Hour Market showed that IBM stock was climbing — even before Nvidia Corp . CEO Jensen Huang ’s comments boosted software shares — setting the stage for the sharp rise this morning. The movement underscores the scale of the speculative mania that’s sweeping through corners of the market as the artificial-intelligence boom sets off a stampede into tech stocks. In this case, it also reflects Trump’s willingness to champion particular companies and industries, which has also occasionally caused his comments to set off sharp stock moves. “It’s not hard. Invest in what Trump talks about, make money, rinse and repeat,” said Matthew Tuttle , chief executive officer of Tuttle Capital Management . Even though the comments about IBM were months old, he added, it “doesn’t take much these days to get the animal spirits flowing.” Intel Corp. shares swung in August on Trump’s comments about its chief executive. Dell Technologies Inc. more recently popped after the president praised founder Michael Dell for contributing to his Trump investment accounts for children and urged Americans to buy the company’s computers. And Trump’s social media pronouncements about the war in Iran have moved the market more broadly. IBM shares had already been rising sharply along with other tech stocks. By the end of last week, they had surged nearly 40% in a little over two weeks. Some of those gains came after the Trump administration ...
