From Google co-founder Brin spending $66m to fight a billionaire tax to Google and Meta funding a joint Super Pac, Silicon Valley is engaged in an existential fight for its political power at home Tech billionaires have shelled out hundreds of millions of dollars ahead of the 2 June primary election in California, in an unrivaled attempt to influence who gets to run the state that Silicon Valley calls home. The industry has used a cover-all-bases approach, funding candidates and ballot measures big and small, contributing to what looks to be the most expensive primary season in California history. The goal, experts say, is to gain both political and regulatory leverage that will perpetuate dominance in business. Google co-founder Sergey Brin has spent $66m since January, more than any other donor, to fight a billionaire tax that’s up for a vote on the November ballot. Democratic gubernatorial candidate Matt Mahan has received more donations than any other candidate, including from top executives at Google, Amazon, Snap, LinkedIn, Reddit and Palantir. Crypto mogul Chris Larsen has funded three Super Pacs with $26m to sway campaigns across California, including giving $1m to back a primary candidate for state insurance commissioner. Google and Meta have collectively funded a Super Pac with $10m to back assembly and senate candidates in local district races across the state. Silicon Valley money is flowing toward city primaries as well as state-level ones, with tech-backed Pacs sponsoring voter guides suggesting how to vote on local tax measures. Continue reading...

Things are bad out there. Despite 2026 shaping up to be a great year when it comes to actual games , it couldn't really be worse for the people that make them or the industry as a whole. Hardware prices keep going up , layoffs have shown no signs of stopping , and even big-budget titles backed by large corporations can feel precarious . That all makes it a somewhat awkward time for Summer Game Fest, a weeklong spectacle of events that kicks off on Tuesday. Splashy announcements won't do much to stem the negative sentiment around the industry. But given the challenging state of console gaming in particular , both Microsoft and Sony have an oppo … Read the full story at The Verge.

Memory chips are a major market opportunity right now. There is huge demand and little supply, so the price of memory chips is soaring. That allows memory chip producers like Sandisk (NASDAQ: SNDK) and Micron Technology (NASDAQ: MU) to cash in on the rise, and both of them have done just that -- and then some. But which is the better stock to buy today? Let's take a look. Image source: Getty Image...

We Are/DigitalVision via Getty Images Trading came to a close for May on Friday. Despite the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz and much higher prices for key energy and commodity products than at the start of 2026, equities continued to advance last month. For the month of May, the NASDAQ rose just over eight percent, and the S&P 500 climbed five percent and Dow was up around three percent. The State Street Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF ( XLK ) was up some 20% for the month. Approximately $23 billion has flowed into technology ETFs since February. The rest of the sectors of the S&P have largely seen flat to down flows over that time. The S&P 500 has had nine straight weeks of gains now, the fifth time since 1965 this has occurred. XLK Stock Chart (Seeking Alpha) Semiconductor stocks continue to be the tip of the spear for this advance. Intel ( INTC ) more than doubled in April on robust Q1 results and guidance. Micron Technology ( MU ) rose some 85% in May powered by a key upgrade by UBS that tripled its price target to a Street high of $1,625 a share. The shares are now up just over 900% over the past year and are now one of 12 stocks with a market capitalization north of $1 trillion. MU Stock Chart (Seeking Alpha) As investors digest May's equity gains, in today's article I highlight three market predictions for June. #1 - The Market Tops Out For 2026 As noted previously, the semiconductor sector has gone absolutely parabolic in recent months with the $SOX up better than 80% in 2026. These sorts of parabolic moves are classic signs of tops and rarely end up well for investors. The market saw this sort of move before with the networking and dot-com stocks just before the Internet Bust as the market crested on March 10th, 2000. By the time equities finally bottomed in the summer of 2002, the NASDAQ would lose some 80% of its value peak to trough. Gold - 3 Year Price Chart (MarketWatch) Gold and silver also had a similar parabolic move that ended at rough...
