Japan ( NKY:IND ) gained 1.8% setting new all-time highs as investors largely brushed off diplomatic setbacks between the US and Iran that pushed oil prices higher. In other parts of Asia, Taiwan’s consumer confidence index edged up to 62.47 in April 2026 from March’s more than three-year low of 62.3, pointing to only a modest improvement in sentiment. Trevor Williams/DigitalVision via Getty Images One company that has seen a surge in its share price over the last year has been Federal Signal Corporation ( FSS ). Trevor Williams/DigitalVision via Getty Images One company that has seen a surge in its share price over the last year has been Federal Signal Corporation ( FSS ). Since I last reaffirmed the company as a ‘hold’ back in April of 2025, the stock has risen 65.5%. That's meaningfully above the 41.1% increase that the S&P 500 saw over the same window of time. Back then, I remained cautious about the valuation of the company and the uncertainty that the company was facing. But since then, management has done an exceptional job to expand the top and bottom lines of the business. Moving forward, we should expect further improvement. But that doesn't necessarily mean that investors would be wise to buy in. The way I see it, the stock looks pretty much fairly valued on an absolute basis, and it looks pricey compared to most other similar firms. Although backlog is growing, and that should fuel additional expansion in the long run, as things stand, I cannot in good faith rate it any higher than the ‘hold’ I called it back then. It is important to be flexible when it comes to analyzing companies. When the data changes to justify a change in opinion, you should be willing to update how you stand on a business accordingly. Soon, investors will have data covering one additional operating quarter for this prospect. And as we approach that date, analysts actually seem quite bullish. In fact, they expect revenue, profits, and adjusted profits to rise year over year. So this should definitely be top of mind for shareholders in the coming days. The Picture Hasn’t Changed Operationally speaking, I find Federal Signal Corporation to be an interesting business. The firm has a long history, dating back to 1901. From those humble origins back then, it has grown into a large enterprise with a market capitalization of $7.14 billion. Today, it focuses on providing a wide array of products and integrated solutions for customers in the municipal and governmental, as well as industrial and comme...
