The Italian government decided to extradite a Chinese man wanted by the US on hacking charges, people familiar with the matter said on Sunday. Premier Giorgia Meloni ’s government made the decision after an Italian court ruled this month that Xu Zewei could be extradited, the people said, speaking on condition of anonymity. The US Department of Justice had sought Xu on suspicion of stealing Covid-19 research and hacking charges, alleging he was directed to conduct the operations at the behest of the Chinese government. He was arrested in Italy in 2025 at Washington’s request. The Italian ministry of justice declined to comment. The US embassy in Rome referred questions to the DOJ, which didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on Sunday. Xu’s lawyer in Milan said he hasn’t received a formal government decree on Xu’s extradition request, adding that — as far as he was aware — his client was still in remand in nearby Pavia prison as of Friday. Xu has maintained he is innocent, according to Italian media reports. Extraditing him may help ease tensions between the US and Italy. Meloni and President Donald Trump have traded barbs over the Italian premier’s increasing distance from the Iran war and her defense of Pope Leo XIV, whom Trump has described as “weak on crime.” Since coming to power in late 2022, Meloni has engaged in a complex balancing act between Beijing and Washington that has touched upon public procurement and key Italian companies , among other issues. Performance Overview Equity markets declined in the first quarter of 2026, with particular weakness in growth stocks as the market grappled with increased uncertainty and upward bias to inflation and interest rate expectations. The portfolio underperformed the index due to this slump in growth equities and our software overweight. The resilient head of the portfolio did provide ballast, declining less than the index, while the optional tail saw a sharp correction given the growthier nature of the stocks that reside there. In the quarter, only the Materials sector contributed positively to the portfolio’s absolute returns, though the semiconductor sub-sector also contributed strongly; Lam Research ( LRCX ), ASML Holding ( ASML ), and Taiwan Semiconductor ( TSM ) were each top-five contributors to absolute returns. TSMC, ASML, and Lam Research continue to benefit from strong demand for compute in AI infrastructure, with ASML and Lam also benefitting from unpre...

I paused for a few moments, entranced by the two ethereal Nordic women banging on giant drums to a techno beat. I made a mental note to check them out the following weekend, because Drain was the priority (especially since the Sonora stage wasn't streaming on weekend two). It was only later that I would find out that Tomora is a collaboration between Norwegian singer-songwriter Aurora and Tom Rowlands, one-half of the Chemical Brothers. Suffice it to say, they were incr … Read the full story at The Verge.
