Palantir Technologies (NASDAQ: PLTR) soared during most of this artificial intelligence (AI) boom, but one thing prompted caution at certain times, and that's the stock's valuation. It skyrocketed, reaching a peak of more than 240x forward earnings estimates last year. So, as investors became increasingly worried about the formation of an AI bubble several months ago, Palantir became one of the first AI stocks to suffer. On top of that, concerns about whether AI demand would remain sustained circulated in the market -- and that also weighed on appetite for Palantir stock. As a result, Palantir has declined about 19% since the start of the year. It's important to remember, however, that during all of this, Palantir's positive earnings story didn't change: The company continued to report solid demand, and revenue and profit climbed. This wasn't enough to meaningfully lift the stock -- but here's why the month of May could be a turning point. Continue reading

Oil held a gain as traders weighed the next steps toward peace talks over the Iran war, with the US discussing a proposal from Tehran while the crucial Strait of Hormuz remained almost impassable. West Texas Intermediate traded near $96 a barrel after gaining 2.1% on Monday. Brent settled above $108. US President Donald Trump convened a meeting to discuss the proposal, but maintained red lines on any deal to end the war, including preventing Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. A ceasefire has broadly held since early April, but a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran and the US has reduced daily transits of the waterway to near zero. The closure has choked off flows of crude, natural gas and oil products, driving up energy prices and raising concerns about an inflation crisis. “There’s still a prevailing expectation that flows begin to normalize through May and June, which has helped keep prices somewhat contained,” said Rebecca Babin , a senior energy trader at CIBC Private Wealth Group. “But the clock is ticking. Each day tightens the physical balance, chips away at buffers, and raises the risk of more exaggerated upside moves.” Iranian media said Sunday that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi would convey to Pakistan, which is mediating peace talks, that the conflict could end if the US lift their naval blockade, agree to a new legal framework for traffic transiting the strait and guarantee there will be no future military action against Iran. Two Iran-linked oil tankers that US forces interdicted near Sri Lanka last week as part of the country’s blockade appear to have halted their westward course in the Indian Ocean and turned around. Asian stocks were poised for a soft open Tuesday as investors braced for a wave of earnings from tech giants while keeping a close eye on developments in the Strait of Hormuz. Equity-index futures for Australia and Hong Kong edged lower, while Japan was steady. S&P 500 contracts were little changed after the gauge stayed on track for its strongest monthly performance since 2020. A key semiconductor index pulled back following a historic rally, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 was little changed. Oil was steady in early trading. With little clarity on the geopolitical front, investors are turning their focus to earnings from a cohort of tech giants with a combined market value of nearly $16 trillion. Alphabet Inc. , Microsoft Corp. , Amazon.com Inc. and Meta Platforms Inc. are due to report Wednesday, followed by Apple Inc. a day later, with the results likely to set the tone for global equities and test whether the recent rally in megacap tech can be sustained. “Markets have recovered to new all-time highs while seemingly ignoring continued geopolitical risks that abound, and this has been done largely on the back of positive earnings revisions and expectations,” said Walter Todd , president and chief investment officer at Greenwood Capital Associates. “Any cracks that emerge in this outlook as the largest companies report in coming weeks pose a significant risk to market momentum.” Meantime, the White House said US officials are discussing Iran’s latest proposal, but maintained red lines on any deal to end the eight-week war, including preventing Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said President Donald Trump had convened a meeting of national security officials to discuss an Iranian proposal. The comments followed reports that Tehran proposed an interim deal whereby it reopens Hormuz in exchange for Washington ending its blockade of ports. “The market appears to be reducing its reaction to US/Iran headlines with the ou...

And right now, that story runs straight through SK Hynix and a $13 billion bet that could decide how fast AI actually scales. HBM4 Bottleneck Is Real Vera Rubin, unveiled at GTC 2026, isn't just another chip upgrade—it's an architectural leap. But it comes with a catch: it requires next-gen HBM4 memory running at speeds north of 10Gb/s. That's not optional. Without it, the performanc
