Twitter had just transformed into X , newcomer Threads was seemingly ascendant , and places like Bluesky had yet to garner much momentum. It left me with an odd, and admittedly silly, dilemma: I had nowhere good to post dumb jokes during games . And now, as the next World Cup is set to begin across Canada, the US, and Mexico, not much has changed. There were a lot of problems with Twitter even when it was at its most popular, but it also introduced a new kind of live experience for many. Its real-time nature and huge au … Read the full story at The Verge.

The list of sustainability-focused fund managers opting to blacklist SpaceX is growing, as they contemplate the unprecedented level of control that Elon Musk will hold over the rockets-to-chatbot behemoth. “It’s simply too, too risky for the type of longevity we want to see in a company,” Marcela Pinilla , director of sustainable investing at Zevin Asset Management LLC , said in an interview ahead of the SpaceX initial public offering. Zevin is among a group of investors — some niche, some big — publicly voicing their concerns about the norm-breaking governance structure shareholders of SpaceX will face. The company is set to give Musk roughly 80% of the voting rights, while also making him chief executive and chief technical officer, as well as chair of the board. “This is a company that cannot be sued, cannot be sold, cannot be contested,” Pinilla said. “As shareholders, you’d have to own $52 billion in shares of a company — that is about 3% — to raise any issues with the board,” because of the rules that apply in Texas, where SpaceX is incorporated, she said. Nell Minow , co-founder and chair of ValueEdge Advisors LLC , said the SpaceX IPO “extinguishes shareholder rights entirely, all but eliminating the right to bring a lawsuit for failure to meet fiduciary standards, cutting off access to books and records.” A Bloomberg request for comment from SpaceX, sent by email, went unanswered. Zevin joins $25 billion Danish pension fund, AkademikerPension , whose chief investment officer last month said SpaceX is not only “grossly overvalued” but also marred by a “ catastrophic governance structure .” In the UK, EdenTree Investment Management has also said it will stay away. SpaceX’s intended governance structure would “reduce the protections available to minority investors,” said Hayley Grafton, senior sustainable investment analyst at EdenTree, which oversees about $4.3 billion. EdenTree isn’t comfortable allocating client assets “to a structure where weak investor pr...

pingingz/iStock via Getty Images Introduction Back when I last covered Nokia ( NOK ), I reiterated their Strong Buy rating, highlighting how NVIDIA’s ( NVDA ) investment further reinforced the bull case and “Highlights An AI Opportunity The Market Is Ignoring.” With the stock up more than 113% from the last coverage and over 180% from older articles, NOK is downgraded to Sell, as the valuation has gotten way ahead of the business itself, while the company still faces significant macro pressure and uncertainty, with potential to see the environment deteriorate before it gets any better, while very high expectations are already priced in. Strong Start to 2026 Nokia IR Nokia reported a strong start of the year , reporting a 4% total net sales increase thanks especially to the 9% increase in the EMEA region, with net sales in their Fixed Networks division dropping by 13% as a result of their deliberate strategic shift towards higher-margin products, which also helped explain the beat on earnings despite a miss in revenue. Nokia also reported strong AI demand in Optical Networks, which grew 20% YoY, while revenue from AI & Cloud customers jumped by a whopping 49%, while the company booked a massive €1 billion in new orders from this segment during the quarter (which now accounts for 8% of group sales), prompting Nokia to raise its full-year market growth assumptions for Optical and IP Networks while also “investing to capture accelerating demand from AI & Cloud customers,” as per the CEO. As a note, I highlighted before how their guidance of €900 million to €1 billion in CAPEX is mostly related to investments in growing their manufacturing capacity to support the Optical Networks growth. Nokia IR Following this, Nokia now expects the Optical and IP Networks to grow by 18% to 20% (vs. the previous 10% to 12%), while they expect the Network Infrastructure segment to grow between 12% to 14% (vs. 6% to 8%), tracking “somewhere above the midpoint” of their comparable operatin...

Richard Drury/DigitalVision via Getty Images The heat continues to turn up on prices. CPI inflation for May, released yesterday, reflected as much. But neither the accelerated increase in prices nor the increasing probability of a rate hike this year is new. What is new, however, is the markets' revealed concern about the state of the economy in yesterday's trading. Here, I discuss the CPI report, its implications for monetary policy, the stock markets and the investing idea that surfaced after the inflation release. Headline inflation breaches 4% Headline CPI inflation rose for the third consecutive month in May, moving past the 4% mark, to land at 4.2% YoY. The figure has now reached its highest level in three years. The average inflation level for 2026 so far now stands at 3.4% YoY, which is similar to the corresponding 3.2% YoY level for PCE inflation for up to April 2026. Both figures are problematic. The Fed forecasts PCE inflation of 2.7% YoY for 2026, which is below both the PCE figures up to April and the CPI inflation up to May. This is unlikely to be achieved, unless there's a sharp drop in fuel prices to below their levels in 2025. There's no reason to assume so. The EIA expects Brent crude's price to average at $95/bbl in 2026 compared with $69/bbl last year. In the meantime, in May, energy commodity prices rose by 40.6% YoY, exerting a disproportionately high influence on overall inflation. The more likely possibility is that the Fed will raise its inflation targets for the year at the upcoming FOMC meeting, along with a hawkish statement. Headline CPI Inflation, %, YoY (Source: Trading Economics) Core inflation in check It's some comfort though, that core inflation remains relatively in check. The figure came in at 2.9% YoY in May, which is also a rise for the third consecutive month and an increase to the highest level in seven months, to be sure. But the average core inflation YTD is still slightly below 2.7% YoY, which is the Fed's target rate for ...

With reusable rockets, a growing constellation of satellites providing internet connectivity, and now a major push into artificial intelligence (AI) through xAI , SpaceX is swiftly becoming one of the most inspirational companies at the intersection of technology and space exploration. Some leading Wall Street banks have floated valuations for SpaceX well into the trillions, and CEO Elon Musk agrees: For its initial public offering (IPO) on Friday, SpaceX will list on the Nasdaq at a valuation of $1.8 trillion. However, valuation expert Aswath Damodaran, a New York University Stern School of Business professor, recently offered a slightly more grounded perspective. Widely known as the "Dean of Valuation" for his transparent financial models and willingness to publish spreadsheet assumptions for public scrutiny, Damodaran has a reputation for sifting through hype narratives with disciplined, data-driven analysis. Drawing on details from SpaceX's S-1 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission , Damodaran has concluded that the company is worth $1.3 trillion, about 28% lower than management's IPO price. While that's still an enormous figure, Damodaran's analysis concludes that SpaceX's target price likely rests on some assumptions that may prove overly optimistic. Continue reading
