A person walks past the U.S. Supreme Court on May 28, 2026 in Washington, DC. Kevin Dietsch | Getty Images The Supreme Court sided on Thursday with a group of investment funds affiliated with BlackRock and other asset managers in their bid to fend off certain lawsuits brought by private plaintiffs under a key federal securities law. The justices, in a 6-3 decision, reversed a lower court's ruling that let hedge fund Saba Capital Master Fund sue under the Investment Company Act of 1940 to void fund bylaws restricting the voting power of activist shareholders. President Donald Trump 's administration backed BlackRock, FS Credit Opportunities and other funds involved in the case, including Adams Diversified Equity Fund , Adams Natural Resources Fund and Royce Global Trust . The investment funds at issue are so-called "closed-end funds," which issue a fixed number of shares and frequently trade for less than the value of their underlying holdings. The funds, which are organized under Maryland law, adopted bylaw provisions that restrict the voting power of large shareholders. Saba, a hedge fund managed by activist investor Boaz Weinstein that owns shares in the investment funds, brought legal challenges against 11 such funds. It alleged that the disputed bylaw provisions violated part of the Investment Company Act requiring that each share carry equal voting power. It also argued that the law allows private parties - not just the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission - to bring suits seeking to void corporate bylaws or other contractual terms that violate the Investment Company Act. A federal judge in New York sided with Saba, ruling in 2024 that the so-called "control share bylaws" violated the Investment Company Act and must be removed. The New York-based 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the judge's ruling. This prompted some of the funds to appeal to the Supreme Court, arguing that the Investment Company Act does not contain a so-called "private right of act...

JHVEPhoto/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Elevator Thesis Broadcom Inc. ( AVGO ) has become one of the most important companies in the AI infrastructure buildout. It has no scarce compute such as Nvidia ( NVDA ). It also does not have the control over spending like Microsoft ( MSFT ), Amazon ( AMZN ), Alphabet ( GOOG , GOOGL ), or Meta Platforms ( META ). Broadcom essentially plays as an infrastructure layer, sitting in the middle. It enables hyperscalers to convert big AI budgets into operational compute power. The significance of that role is evident in Q2 FY26. Its revenue grew 48% YOY to $22.2 billion . At the same time the AI semiconductor revenues grew by 143% to $10.8 billion. Almost half of the total revenue is now directly linked to AI semis. However, even more impressive is the efficiency with which management leverages this growth into billions in free cash flow, keeping the margin profile elite. Forward guidance suggests yet another solid quarter to come, and near-term visibility remains crystal clear. On a broader scale, a handful of hyperscalers are investing nearly $700 billion annually in building AI infrastructure, and demand appears to still outpace supply. That gives Broadcom a very positive environment as it provides key components of that infrastructure. The catch is, Wall Street is already aware of this and Broadcom is no longer a secret AI play. Rather than a stock that may experience a further re-rating in valuation, it is a business that has the potential to compound steadily through earnings and cash flow growth. That is the reason why I like Broadcom in the long run. It is firmly tied to the global AI buildout, and will continue to benefit for years. That being said, I see it more as a high-quality stock to hold than one to aggressively buy at today's valuation. Where Broadcom Really Earns Its Returns AVGO Three Engine Model (Author generated based on Data) I see three distinct economic engines operating inside Broadcom. Interestingly, e...

Treasuries rose as a drop in oil prices improved the outlook for US inflation. The gains Thursday trimmed yields across maturities by two to three basis points to hit session lows during the US morning, when European bonds also advanced. Oil prices have tracked shifting sentiment about the prospects of ending the US-Israeli war on Iran that has disrupted Middle East supply. They resumed declining after a report that United Arab Emirates and Iranian officials held a pivotal meeting this week overshadowed threats from President Donald Trump to significantly escalate the conflict by seizing Iran’s key oil hub. The oil-driven moves in bonds were complicated by the release of US inflation data showing bigger increases in wholesale prices in May than economists had estimated. Core prices excluding energy and food rose less than estimated, however. “Many are telling us they think the worst of the inflation data is in,” said Tony Farren , managing director in rates sales and trading at Mischler Financial Group . Lower-than-expected increases in core inflation despite higher energy prices “has changed the mindset of the Treasury market at least temporarily.” US government bonds are little changed on the week after strong May employment data released June 5 altered expectations for the Federal Reserve , whose policy-setting committee meets next week for first time since Kevin Warsh succeeded Jerome Powell as head of the US central bank. Fed officials are widely seen leaving their target range for the federal funds rate unchanged at 3.5%-3.75%, where it’s been since December. However quarterly revisions to their forecasts for interest rates and the economy may reflect the war-driven surge in energy prices that has many investors looking for a quarter-point rate increase by year-end and seeing strong chances of another one by mid-2027. Thursday’s rally reduced the expected yield for an auction of 30-year bonds at 1 p.m. New York time, the third and final sale of longer-term Tre...

That has become nearly impossible Sophie (not her real name) is a member of the Royal College of Nursing and a senior A&E nurse in a hospital in the south of England I began my career as an A&E nurse in 2010, when I was 21. It was a completely different world. If a patient needed immediate attention, there was easily the capacity for two nurses to look after them straight away. The NHS target of seeing patients within a four-hour window wasn’t something we gave much thought to, as it was pretty much a given that a patient would be admitted, transferred or discharged within that time. I don’t ever recall seeing a patient and feeling awful about how long they had waited. It’s amazing to think how common it used to be for emergency departments to be almost empty at times in the evenings. As well as being much needed respite from the demands of the job, it was also a valuable time to learn from more senior colleagues. Nurses with decades of experience would take new recruits under their wings and help us practise our skills. That time is when I learned to plaster limbs and dress wounds. I wish I could do the same for my junior colleagues now. We used to be able to give timely, good care – now it has become near impossible.
