'I think I am speaking for the UK more than Prince Harry … but I appreciate his advice very much,' the US president said, responding to the duke’s lengthy, impassioned speech at the Kyiv Security Forum on Thursday during a surprise visit to show support for Ukraine after four years of war with Russia. Stock photo and footage/iStock via Getty Images Research firm Omdia sees 62.7% growth in semiconductor revenue for 2026 amid a surge in memory-chip pricing due to supply shortages and robust demand from AI and data-center markets. Omdia, which is part of TechTarget ( TTGT ), on Friday said demand for DRAM and NAND chips is expected to remain elevated through the year. Conventional memory supplies remain constrained as manufacturers focus on producing higher margin High Bandwidth Memory, or HBM, used in AI servers. Omdia expects the DRAM market to nearly double in value in 2026, while the smaller NAND segment could quadruple from 2025 levels. Meaningful supply relief is unlikely until well into 2027, according to the report. Computing and data storage are projected to lead industry growth, with semiconductor revenue in those segments rising 90% year-over-year to more than $700B. Omidia sees smartphone unit shipments largely flat, but the chip revenue is forecast to rise given higher memory costs lift bill-of-materials prices. New flagship launches, foldable devices and AI-enabled handsets are also expected to support growth. “Supporting the progression of AI beyond simple Q&A use cases has exponentially increased demand for memory and processing ICs, fueling semiconductor industry revenues overall,” Omdia analyst Myson Robles-Bruce said. Omdia said risks to the outlook include tariffs, energy costs, geopolitical tensions and long-term returns on heavy AI infrastructure spending Current semiconductor revenue growth is being driven primarily by higher average selling prices rather than unit shipment volumes. Similar dynamics were seen in past cycles, including crypto mining booms and earlier memory supercycles, but the scale and breadth of the current upturn are unprecedented, Omdia said.
