OpenAI is considering significant price cuts for its services in anticipation of similar cost reductions from rival Anthropic PBC , according to people familiar with the matter, hinting at the possibility of a pricing war in the lead-up to their expected public offerings. The ChatGPT creator is weighing various cost changes, including reducing the price for tokens, a unit of measurement for artificial intelligence use, if Anthropic does the same, said the people, who spoke on condition of anonymity as the information is not public. The deliberations are early and nothing has been decided. OpenAI declined to comment. The Wall Street Journal previously reported the discussions. Competition for users between OpenAI and Anthropic, which makes the Claude chatbot, is heating up as the two generative AI companies prepare to go public, capitalizing on the excitement around the technology. OpenAI filed for a public listing this week and was last valued at $852 billion in a fundraising round in March. Anthropic, which has lined up banks to work on its initial public offering, raised funds at a $965 billion valuation last month. Read More: Corporate AI Cheerleaders Run Into Reality of Soaring Costs Elon Musk ’s SpaceX — which includes xAI, its satellite business and the X social network — is preparing for an IPO this week that would value the company at about $1.8 trillion. The generative AI companies also face competition from established tech giants including Microsoft Corp. and Alphabet Inc. ’s Google. Still, the enthusiasm for AI that’s driving these valuations is being tempered by the costs. Uber Technologies Inc. set usage caps on some of the AI-powered tools for its staff after the company blew through its annual AI budget earlier this year. Walmart Inc. also limited employees’ use of an in-house AI agent.

Viasat ( VSAT ) Thursday announced it was awarded a prime contract by the U.S . Space Force’s space systems command to build, launch, and deliver the first of a proliferated fleet of small, maneuverable geosynchronous Earth orbit satellites under the Protected Tactical SATCOM-Global (PTS-G) program. The new Swarm 1 delivery order contract builds on Viasat’s completion of the d elivery order 1 (DO1) phase awarded in 2025, where the company successfully matured a system design for a resilient, low size, weight, and power (SWaP) GEO satellite and associated ground architecture to dynamically support key hot spot service areas. The PTS-G program, which has an indefinite delivery indefinite quantity ceiling value of $4B across program awardees, is a cornerstone of the USSF’s strategy to use commercial baseline designs to deploy a proliferated constellation of agile GEO satellites to deliver secure, resilient, anti-jam communications and improve operational flexibility for warfighters worldwide. VSAT shares rose 2.8% in premarket trading. More on Viasat Viasat: Real Catalysts, But Not Enough Margin Of Safety Viasat, Inc. Gabriel V. Cardenas | Reuters SpaceX's initial public offering this week is set to be the biggest ever in history, flooding the stock market with new shares that begs the question: where is the money going to come from? As far as Wall Street is concerned, the stock market has what it takes to absorb the new equity supply. In the 12 months to September 2025, S&P 500 companies issued roughly $1.7 trillion, or roughly $140 billion a month, according to Gavekal Research. What that means is that SpaceX's anticipated $75 billion capital raise will absorb just a little over two weeks of shareholder payouts, according to the firm. It's not just SpaceX that's seeking to raise capital. In total, four companies including SpaceX, Anthropic, OpenAI and Alphabet are seeking to raise about $380 billion in the public markets — but even that amounts to roughly two months of issuance, the firm said. "The point is that in the grand scheme of the U.S. equity market, these share issues are surprisingly digestible," Gavekal Research's Will Denyer wrote in a June 3 note. "This suggests any drag on U.S. equity performance from the liquidity drain should be short-lived." Both private and public companies are raising record amounts of capital to tap the AI hype. OpenAI recently raised $122 billion on March 31, 2026, led by Nvidia and Amazon.com . A few months later, Anthropic secured $65 billion in Series H financing, pushing its valuation to $965 billion. While private companies continue to raise capital, major tech companies are not too far behind. Alphabet recently announced an $84.8 billion equity raise, as the tech giant prepared to ramp up its investment in AI infrastructure amid surging demand. Zoom In Icon Arrows point...

Some claim arrival via Ireland is a ‘backdoor’ that should be closed. But what would that look like in practice? After footage of a stabbing attack in Belfast was widely circulated on social media, questions have been raised about how the suspect, Hadi Alodid, came to the UK, what his immigration status was and whether he was known to the authorities. One claim made in the aftermath of the attack was that his presence in Belfast was evidence of a dangerous “backdoor to Britain” via a route that should be closed. Here’s what we know about his case, and what closing the so-called loophole would look like in practice. Continue reading...
