AI disruption fears were a key headwind during the period, especially in the software space, while escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East caused downward pressure on markets later in the quarter. A key theme in the quarter was investors working to better understand the potential impact of AI across sectors. While AI-driven investment has supported growth in recent periods, concerns around returns on capital, competitive disruption, and longer-term winners and losers weighed heavily on software stocks, among others. Macro conditions shifted notably as the quarter progressed, driven by escalating geopolitical tensions. The outbreak of U.S.-Iran hostilities, most notably disruptions to energy shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, drove concerns around supply shocks, inflation, and global growth. The resulting spike in oil prices contributed to renewed inflation concerns and a repricing of Federal Reserve (Fed) policy expectations, with markets moving away from anticipated rate cuts toward a more prolonged pause. Energy was the standout performer amid the surge in crude prices, while defensive sectors such as Utilities and Consumer Staples also outperformed. Conversely, Consumer Discretionary, Information Technology (IT), and Financials, faced meaningful pressure. Beneath the surface, dispersion increased significantly...

Beginning in 2028, pilots will receive an automatic 3% annual raise. The new contract also updates work rules, vacation policies, hours of service regulations, scheduling, and per diem rates. Of the 98.5% of eligible pilots who voted, 83% voted in favor of the new agreement. The new contract becomes effective June 29. EMS-FORSTER-PRODUCTIONS/DigitalVision via Getty Images The stock market selloff on June 5 may have been merely the tremors before the big event. Despite the sharp selloff, little has changed from a mechanical volatility standpoint. Implied dispersion remains historically elevated while implied correlations remain historically low, suggesting that what occurred on June 5 was more of a warning shot than a regime shift. Volatility Positioning Remains Stretched Implied volatility for single stocks remains extremely high, with the VIXEQ trading around 45 and the S&P VIX Index ( VIX ), which measures index-level volatility, around 17.6. That means the historical spread between the two measures is roughly 27.5, remaining the widest on record. This spread, or the difference between constituent-level and index-level volatility, is one of the primary reasons dispersion in the S&P 500 remains at historic highs, as seen during the COVID-19 crash and the tariff tantrum. TradingView Meanwhile, 3-month implied correlations also remain historically low at 10. The only time the 3-month correlations were lower was in July 2024, before the breakdown of the yen carry trade. Until correlations begin to rise and dispersion starts to fall, the regime that existed before the June 5 sell-off remains largely unchanged. The Semi Chase Is Not Over Yet… Implied volatility and skewness in the semiconductor sector remain extremely elevated, well above their 1-year median. The data show that call premiums remain very rich for the largest names in the VanEck Semiconductor ETF ( SMH ), a sign that the game of chasing semiconductor stocks in the options market has not yet broken. Mott Capital/ VolVue With dispersion so high and correlation so low, and the chase for semis still underway, the market remains vulnerable and overheated. While measurements like dispersion and correlations can continue to stretch further, they are near their historical bounds and will eventually need to revert. Systematic a...

JasonDoiy Rivian Automotive ( RIVN ) began deliveries of the R2 mid-size electric SUV on Tuesday. Deliveries begin with R2 Performance with Launch Package (starting at $57,990) with R2 Premium configurations to follow in late 2026 and multiple R2 Standard configurations through 2027. Beginning today, R2 reservation holders will start to receive an invitation to configure and order in rolling batches. Customers will receive their invitation based on various factors, the primary factors being when the reservation was made and their delivery location. The R2 lineup will offer up to 656 horsepower, 0–60 mph in as quick as 3.6 seconds, while offering a Rivian-estimated range of up to 345 miles. Standard features will include a native NACS charging port and Autonomy+ hardware. "R2 embodies so many of our learnings that we have accumulated—the passion and attention to detail from our team is visible everywhere," highlighted Rivian ( RIVN ) CEO RJ Scaringe last month. In its review of the R2, Car and Driver said R2 is a fully competent electric SUV that should be a strong candidate to break the Tesla ( TSLA ) Model Y's stranglehold on the compact electric SUV segment. The Inside EVs website was even more impressed. "With an unparalleled blend of incredible performance, cutting-edge software, and off-road chops, the R2 is the do-everything machine I’ve always dreamed of," wrote Mack Hogan. For investors, Benchmark Capital sees the R2 launch as a positive for Rivian ( RIVN ). "We view the event as an important demand signal and proof point for manufacturing execution," updated analyst Mickey Legg. Shares of Rivian ( RIVN ) were down more than 7% in midday trading on Tuesday despite the R2 deliveries launch. More on Rivian Rivian: Wait For The R2 Launch Rivian Automotive, Inc. Tverdohlib/iStock via Getty Images Under-followed stocks can be a great place to pick up bargains since bargain hunters can pick them up before the rest of the market catches wind. Such was the case with OUTFRONT Media ( OUT ), which I last covered in December 2025, highlighting its compelling value and pivot to digital formats. Since my last piece, OUT has delivered an outstanding 32% total return, far surpassing the 7% rise in the S&P 500 ( SPY ) over the same timeframe. Who says only tech stocks can give you eye-catching returns? At the current price of $30.59, OUT trades well below its recent high of $35 while carrying a reasonable P/FFO of 13.35 and a 3.9% dividend yield. In this article, I revisit OUT, including recent business results , and discuss why it remains attractive at present for income and potential gains, so let’s get started! Why OUT? OUTFRONT Media is one of the largest out-of-home media companies in the U.S. Its significant presence along highways and transit hubs connects brands with audiences as they go about their daily lives. In recent years, OUT has been leveraging data to improve digital capabilities and programmatic advertising. This has helped brands to better target their core demographic and measure responsiveness to ad campaigns. OUT continued to deliver strong momentum during Q1 2026, with consolidated revenue rising by 10% over the prior year period. This was driven by a 22% growth in transit revenue and 7% growth in billboard revenue, as shown below. Investor Presentation The billboard segment benefitted from strong demand across several advertiser categories, including legal services and technology. Notably, billboard yield, a key measure of asset productivity, rose by 11% to $2,900 per display. This reflects the pricing power of OUT’s billboard assets in key markets. At the same time, transit advertising remained the primary growth engine for OUT, with revenue rising by 22% YoY, as noted earlier. This was driven by exceptional pe...

An American flag flies near the Ever Memo container ship at the Port of Los Angeles on May 28, 2026 in Los Angeles, California. Mario Tama | Getty Images Officials from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency head to a federal trade court on Tuesday to try to find a way t o refund tens of billions of dollars of tariffs that were collected and later deemed illegal by the Supreme Court. Judge Richard Eaton of the Court of International Trade in Manhattan has framed the hearing as a negotiating session to sort out what needs to be done to return the remaining chunk of the $166 billion in illegal tariffs. "All of the substantive law in this case has either been decided by the Supreme Court, or is the subject of settled law," Eaton wrote in a letter that appeared on the court docket on June 3. "All that remains are, what might be termed, settlement negotiations." The CBP has said that it has accepted and started processing claims for nearly $90 billion in refunds of what it estimates could be up to $127 billion in so-called Phase 1 refunds, which are the least-complicated cases. The CBP said in a June 4 court filing that $22 billion in refunds have been completed and sent to the Treasury Department for distribution to importers. The next phase involves more legally complicated and older, so-called liquidated tariffs. An importer typically pays an estimated tariff and around a year later the CBP finalizes the tariff amount, which is called liquidation. CBP has said it can only process liquidated tariffs in certain situations or if the importer sues. Smaller companies, which make up the vast bulk of importers, fear the cost of suing and the time and distraction involved might not be worth the effort to obtain a refund. Eaton wrote the June 3 letter in response to the government resisting his order that the CBP commissioner appear at Tuesday's hearing. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit later temporarily stayed that order and Eaton agreed to allow CBP t...

mbbirdy/E+ via Getty Images Wall Street’s major market averages hand back earlier gains and now trade lower on Tuesday as the tech space slides. The blue chip Dow ( DJI ) was -0.4%, the benchmark S&P 500 ( SP500 ) was -0.9%, and the tech focused Nasdaq Composite ( COMP:IND ) was -1.6%. Now, here are four news stories that broke in the morning to watch out for: China’s AI expansion: Beijing is preparing to spend $295 billion over the next five years to build a nationwide network of interconnected data center hubs aimed at accelerating domestic AI development. Key government bodies including the National Development and Reform Commission are drafting the blueprint, with state-owned operators such as China Mobile and China Telecom expected to run most of the new facilities. The plan reportedly targets at least 80% reliance on domestic suppliers including Huawei Technologies for key technologies like AI chips, reducing the role of U.S. companies such as Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices. Silver price slump: Silver ( XAGUSD:CUR ) has come under significant pressure on Tuesday, extending a recent downturn and trading at $67.130/oz, down 3.5% on the day. The decline pushed the precious metal below its 200-day moving average for the first time since mid-April 2025, leaving prices on track for their lowest closing level since December 18. Silver has retreated sharply from its record high of $121.785/oz reached on January 29, falling approximately 45.5% from that peak. Housing data boost: Existing home sales rose 3.2% in May to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.17 million units, significantly exceeding expectations for a gain of less than 1%. Sales of homes priced above $1 million increased 11%, underpinning gains in high-end furnishing stocks such as Arhaus, Williams-Sonoma, and RH. National Association of Realtors chief economist Lawrence Yun attributed the gain to improved affordability, noting that mortgage rates remain lower than a year ago and near the long-term hi...
