bodnarchuk/iStock via Getty Images Seabridge Gold ( SA ) up 1.3% pre-market Tuesday after saying the British Columbia Supreme Court upheld the reasonableness of the Environmental Assessment Office's determination that the KSM project had been substantially started. Seabridge ( SA ) said the court ruled the EAO must provide the Tsetsaut Skii km Lax Ha First Nation 90 days to submit written comments before reconsidering the substantial-start determination, while the court also dismissed a separate challenge filed by SkeenaWild Conservation Trust against the substantial-start finding. The ruling preserves the project's environmental assessment certificate while requiring additional consultation with TSKLH, the company said. Seabridge ( SA ) Chair and CEO Rudi Fronk said work at KSM would continue during the consultation process and EAO reconsideration of the substantially started determination. Since its application for substantially started status in January 2024, Seabridge ( SA ) has incurred an additional C$208M of expenditures on permanent works at KSM, bringing total expenditures at KSM to C$1.2B. Investor jitters about the potential disruption caused by artificial-intelligence adoption has created a broad-based buying opportunity for the shares of European advertising agencies, according to Berenberg analysts. The broker initiated coverage of Publicis Groupe SA , WPP Plc and Havas NV this week, giving all three stocks buy recommendations. The Stoxx 600’s media subgroup climbed as much as 1.3% on Tuesday, with advances led by WPP and Publicis. The sector had been hurt by company-specific structural issues, and has recently come under pressure again because of AI concerns, according to the Berenberg analysts. This has led to discounted valuations as well as share-price underperformance, they said. “While the industry continues to face long-standing headwinds from in-housing and rising competition, and more recently AI, we believe agencies are adapting rather than fading away,” analysts including Anna Patrice and Davide Amorim wrote in a note. They view Publicis as being “ahead of the pack,” while Havas is an “attractive challenger story.” WPP faces a tougher near-term transition even though its recovery potential is still intact, according to the analysts. Berenberg’s upbeat view on WPP is more contrarian than its positivity toward Publicis and Havas. Only about a fifth of analysts tracked by Bloomberg have a buy or equivalent rating on the UK company. Both Publicis and Havas have mainly buy recommendations. According to the Berenberg analysts, ad agencies are “still relevant” in the era of AI disruption. “The industry is not dying, but is instead reorganizing around a stable hybrid model,” they wrote.

"Device-Level" Nudity Detection: UK Gov't Blackmailing Public Into Digital ID Authored by Kit Knightly via OffGuardian , British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer announced plans, in a speech earlier today, to introduce "device-level controls" that will prevent children from viewing, sending or taking naked photographs: This government will not stand by while children are put at risk online. Today I am calling on the tech companies to introduce device-level controls to prevent children from taking, sharing or viewing nude images. And if they don't act, we will. — Keir Starmer (@Keir_Starmer) June 8, 2026 According to Justice Minister Catherine Atkinson, the UK will become "the first country where it will be impossible for children to take, share or view naked pictures" The UK will be the first country where it will be impossible for children to take, share or view naked pictures, a justice minister tells @LeahBoleto. The government says tech companies must stop this happening within three months or they'll be forced to act through legislation. pic.twitter.com/ZQ3MWobQ2X — Sky News (@SkyNews) June 8, 2026 The only way this is even close to enforceable is if one or more of the following measures are in place: You must verify your age by linking your digital devices to your ID. You must allow the government - or whatever private third-party agency the government employs - access to your phone's data and files at all times. You must allow third-party software to scan every attempted photo. It means "nudity detection" on every app on the device, at all times. There's literally no other way of doing it. From the government's website earlier today [emphasis added]: Apple recently introduced age checks for iPhone users, making it the first company to activate safety features by default for those who are not verified as over 18. This is a significant step forward following the government's commitments to work with industry, and one this announcement builds on. Despite this, th...

Morocco’s semi-final appearance in Qatar has raised the possibility of an African team reaching the final, but who are best poised to do so? With a record 10 African teams at the first 48-nation World Cup, the big question, after Morocco’s historic semi-final appearance in Qatar , is whether any of them can go a step further. The prospect of an African side becoming world champions appeared realistic after Cameroon defied the odds to beat Diego Maradona’s Argentina, the defending champions, in the opening game of the 1990 tournament and embarked on a fairytale run that ended in a 3-2 quarter-final defeat by England . But in the eight subsequent World Cups, African teams have been long on promise and short on delivery. Continue reading...

Kathrin Ziegler/DigitalVision via Getty Images By Eli Salzmann and David Levine Barring a protracted stalemate in Iran, we believe value stocks are poised to resume their pre-conflict rally. In March 2025, we called attention to the equity market’s growth-oriented tilt and made the case for increasing exposure to value stocks. That observation proved prescient when the relative performance of growth versus value peaked last fall. In this article, we demonstrate why we believe the value rally is ready to resume despite a pause during the Iran conflict, the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the latest surge by several AI-driven, mega-cap growth names. We also discuss the importance of maintaining a consistent, rigorous process when selecting value stocks and seeking optimal diversification across broader equity portfolios. Value Mounts a Comeback In March 2025, as a handful of U.S. Big Tech companies were pushing passively managed public equity portfolios into “growthier” territory, we advised managing risk by increasing exposure to value stocks (see Rebalancing Act: Rethinking Growth Versus Value ). Six months later, value stocks—including those in the energy, banking and health care sectors—began mounting a comeback on the strength of economy-wide earnings growth and swelling doubts about Big Tech’s trajectory from already elevated levels. Then came the conflict in Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. While energy stocks got a boost from spiking oil and natural gas prices, the rally in other traditional value-heavy sectors began to sputter. AI gave another gale-force tailwind to Big Tech—seen as a secular haven with a hint of cyclicality—and now gargantuan initial public offerings (IPOs) from the likes of SpaceX ( SPCX ), Anthropic ( ANTHRO ) and OpenAI ( OPENAI ) could further whet investors’ appetite for growth. Yet we believe value’s comeback is only on pause. Assuming tensions in the Strait begin to ease within the next few months, we expect...

NoDerog J.M. Smucker Company ( SJM ) gained on Tuesday after showing improved results with its FQ4 earnings report. Revenue was up 6.1% during the quarter to $2.3 billion. Excluding $5.1M of noncomparable net sales in the prior year related to the divestiture of certain Sweet Baked Snacks value brands and $3.1M of favorable foreign currency exchange, net sales increased 6%. The increase in comparable net sales reflected a 10 percentage point increase from net price realization, primarily driven by higher net pricing for coffee and sweet baked goods. Comparable net sales reflected a 4 percentage point decrease from volume/mix, primarily driven by decreases for coffee and sweet baked goods, partially offset by an increase for Uncrustables sandwiches. Sales in the U.S. retail coffee segment were 12% higher during the quarter, while sales in the sweet baked snacks segment were off 5%. Sales in the Away From Home segment were up 15% during the quarter. Adjusted gross profit was up 4% year-over-year during the quarter. Adjusted operating income increased 14%, which further reflects the exclusion of amortization expense, noncash impairment charges related to the goodwill of the Sweet Baked Snacks reporting unit and Hostess brand trademark, the net pre-tax gain on divestitures in the prior year, and other special project costs as compared to GAAP operating income. Adjusted EPS was reported at $2.77 vs. $2.64 consensus and $2.31 a year ago. Looking ahead, the food company sees full-year revenue down 3% to 4% and 2027 EPS of $9.75 to $10.25 (midpoint $10.00) vs. $9.78 consensus. "Our strategic priorities for the fiscal year are to — drive focused organic volume growth across our key platforms, improve profitability and accelerate earnings growth, and maintain a disciplined approach to capital deployment. Our strategy is working, and the strong foundation we have established gives us confidence in our ability to drive long-term growth and create shareholder value," stated CEO ...

The ChatGPT maker is said to be targeting a listing as soon as this fall. The move follows a similar filing by Anthropic and comes as Musk’s SpaceX prepares for what could be the largest IPO in history this week. The two bosses recently faced off in court, where a jury rejected Musk’s claims that OpenAI had abandoned its original public-interest mission. The AI-led rebound in stocks entered a second day, with investors finding fresh reasons to stay optimistic on the sector. Under the surface, however, things may look different.
