Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) has fallen below $60,000, dropping to its lowest levels since late 2024. The decline represents an over 50% drop from the cryptocurrency's all-time high of $124,773, hit in 2025. The interesting thing is that this decline is huge, but still isn't anywhere close to the worst decline in Bitcoin's history. Bitcoin is a digital currency. It has no intrinsic value because there is nothing backing it, such as gold or an operating business, as with stocks . Its value is entirely driven by people's willingness to buy and hold it. From a technical standpoint, the absolute bottom for Bitcoin is zero if everyone in the world decides that it is no longer worth buying and holding. Image source: Getty Images. Continue reading

Gina Ferazzi | Ronaldo Bolaños | Los Angeles Times | Getty Images Progressive city council member Nithya Raman has advanced to a November runoff against Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass , setting up an unexpected matchup between two Democrats and former political allies to run the struggling city of nearly 4 million. The outcome means Spencer Pratt , a Republican and former reality television personality from "The Hills," is out of the running. His candidacy had drawn national attention because of his celebrity and willingness to challenge liberal governance in a city dominated by Democrats, but the buzz did not translate into enough votes to make the runoff. Raman made a last-minute entry into the race, after she had endorsed Bass for reelection. She was elected to the council with the support of the Democratic Socialists of America, and the election will test whether voters in the heavily Democratic city want to move further to the political left to address long-running problems of homelessness, buckled streets and sidewalks and climbing rent and home prices. Democratic candidate Xavier Becerra speaks on election night for the 2026 California gubernatorial primary at his election night watch party, in Los Angeles, California, U.S. June 2, 2026. Aude Guerrucci | Reuters The race also has historical markers. Bass is the first Black woman to hold the post, and Raman could be the first South Asian woman in the job. The mayor's race is nonpartisan, so none of the candidates had party identification next to their names on the ballot. Raman and Bass are both Democrats, while Pratt is a Republican. The slow count has prompted claims of fraud, without providing evidence, from some Republicans, including President Donald Trump, who said his Department of Justice would investigate. The president suggested that the state's Democrats were somehow cheating so that two candidates he favors — Pratt and Republican Steve Hi...

529-To-Roth IRA Rollover Rules In 2026: Five Questions That Help Determine Whether You Qualify Authored by Adam H. Douglas via The Epoch Times , After funding a 529 college savings account for years, you realize there is money left over . Maybe your grandchild graduated early, earned a scholarship that covered more than expected, or decided college was not for them [ ZH: or maybe your grandkid is an ungrateful little shit ] . A federal rule now lets you move that leftover balance into a Roth IRA, tax-free. It may sound too good to be true, and for some account holders, it is. Leftover 529 funds can now be rolled into a Roth IRA, but strict rules may limit who qualifies. Panchenko Vladimir/Shutterstock The provision is real, but the eligibility window is narrow, and several states have created a tax trap that most account holders never see coming. Under SECURE 2.0's Section 126, you can roll unused 529 funds into a Roth IRA, tax-free and penalty-free, up to a $35,000 lifetime limit . But the account must be at least 15 years old, the money being moved must be at least 5 years old, the Roth IRA must belong to the 529 beneficiary, and that beneficiary must have earned income. Several states, including California, impose their own taxes on the rollover regardless of the federal treatment. Here are five gating questions to help you explore these rules in detail and determine whether the rollover is actually available to you. Question 1: Is The Account Old Enough? To qualify for a rollover, the 529 plan must have been maintained for at least 15 years before any funds can be transferred. This requirement starts from the date the account was originally established, not from when contributions began or when the beneficiary was designated. Changing the beneficiary on a 529 plan will likely restart the 15-year clock. That would mean the new beneficiary must wait 15 years from the date they became the beneficiary before initiating a rollover. Treat any beneficiary change with c...
